are these films and tv shows downloaded, or ripped from your own dvd collection? i have a bunch of shows and movies on disk but would like to give this ago if possible. thanks to anyone who replys :)
What OS is your HTPC and do you use Event Ghost to control the Firefly. If you do use Event Ghost could you upload your XML Event Ghost file to the Event Ghost website? I'm trying to replicate your setup and I figure why reinvent the wheel. Awsome setup.
great set up, im using a plugin for win 7 media center my movies collecction but i will chage for this xbmc right now, just a few question, what kind of mb, video card and sound do you have?? great job..
this is so fkn cool tell me what i need to buy to have this setup!!!!! PLZ!! I downloaded xbmc on my mac but i have no idea how on earth to get this hooked upto my tv ... i have an xbox 360 ... now what? :(
Iif you're running XMBC on the computer, does that mean you can't run windows 7 on it (i know sounds ignorant but i'm new and learning) or is it like a program you run once the computer is loaded.....
very.. very impressive set up! I'm still having alot of trouble getting my emulators and games set up like you have in yours.. I wanted to use the xbox controller which isn't working all that well. Prob get the controller your using
Dude, nice setup. All you're missing is an even larger tv :P but I'm sure that's coming once 100"+ panels are more affordable. I really liked the RF remote idea. You run sick beard +Nabszd at all or do you rip your own stuff from Bluray?
@ieGod I would like to get an htpc. How did you transfer your movies into 1080p on your pc, and how did you manage to fit so much movies on your pc in HD quality? Also, how much hard drive space is required with such a setup? I would like to put my entire blue ray and dvd collection on my htpc to be accessed through the XBMC interface.
Can you please elaborate on how to program eventghost to start xbmc upon system startup? You tend to ignore a lot of questions from people who've taken the time to view your video and comment positively; I hope you will answer this question...
@citysnumber10 Manual - this was the part that was a bit of work. But I wrote my own php script to generate the XML files based on my custom hierarchy and naming convention. This is not for the weak at heart.
Awesome setup and love the roms.XBMC looks and act so much better than WMC. I've been thinking about building an HTPC for a long time now and this just give me encouragement. Just one question, are those all DVD or BluRay isos or are they rips? If I have a tv show or movie in lets mkv or mp4 for will it still give a DVD cover as well as info?
Bravo!! I mean I love your whole setup! But could you help me with a problem I'm having with the games? I found the snes emulator but how do i get the games and the emulator into xbmc? Thanks in advance.
Love the setup. My question is are the movies ripped from blu-rays and dvds? Doesn't that take forever to do if you own a lot of them? Or is this all downloaded content?
I bought the Snapstream Firefly remote after watching your video. Can I get your xml config file for the setup? It would make it much easier then trial and error for me :)

I am working on the design for my own setup right now, but am not sure about having my work computer being used as the HTPC as well. For instance when the active user screen locks, etc. Did you find a way to have a second logged in user maintain video output? I've been wondering if that sort of thing is a possible solution, but have not found anything other than just leaving the computer unlocked and having XBMC running on secondary output on the active login.
Great setup. Similar to what I'm striving for. Would you mind letting me know where you got that skin at. I can find references to it but not the skin itself. Thanks and again great video
@Nomar1245 The Aeon65 branch is the closest to what I had running in this video. Be warned though, this skin is kind of unstable. Just search for aeon project on wikipedia. I'd post a link but youtube doesn't like that.
Very slick interface,a bit similar to Boxee but I like this interface better. I use xbox xbmc, hopefully it has similar skin, I plan to use XBMC Installer Deluxe v1.30. Thnx for your great insight, very kewl!
sweet setup man, but how large is your file system to store all that? Are you using a NAS or file server or are you storing it all locally. I'm trying to get an htpc setup going but I'm not sure what to do for data storage. The largest NAS i could find is around 3TB but I think with HD content that would fill up quick and you seem to have alot ore than 3TB's worth of files.
@utoobeguy My file system resides on a different computer built entirely for that purpose. It's a custom built machine running UnRaid [ lime-technology com/support/unraid-server-installation]. I have modular SATA drive bays so that I can pop in up to 15 drives of any size, but am presently running 5 with a grand total of 5TB of space, and growing as required. I actually have just over 3.5 TB worth of content.
Great vid! How did you get all the artwork to go along with the movies/music? You briefly went into it when you were in the emulators, but I didn't quite understand.
@Olsteradamus Within the settings you can customize how Aeon behaves, and one of the areas lets you set background directories to pull images from for the different sections.
@jinjabred The cable that runs from the PC to the receiver is about 30ft, the toslink perhaps 25. If Monoprice sells them, it's more than likely you'll have no problem with longer ones.
Great video... Question.. How do you rip and store all those HD movies?
I have about 20 to 25 blurays ripped useing tsmuxer, which some work some don't seems like it's allways a pain in the ass... And I have close to 1.5 tarabites of 480p movies .. I'd love to have them in 720p or 1080p but like I said it's a pain, not allways reliable and the storage would be crazy...any help will be appreciated...
i love your setup just curious are you using a remote to control the XBMC? also are you running a windows or linux OS? my plan is to run XBMC on a linux OS with a wireless remote to control the movies is that possible you reckon
@drwombat Before you get too far into setting up xbmc and launcher and what not, Id recommend getting your tv/hdmi out working. Its a bit trickier in linux then you might think. I ended up scrapping my 75% working xbmx/linux install because I could not get it to work.
hey thanks for the response, so let me then ask you this if your suggesting windows is most compatible for HDMI is there a way to setup a HTPC to boot straight to XBMC? i would like to create a "dedicated" box that simply boots to media center with an external hdd plugged in.
also another side question your album art, and movie data is that "fetched" for you off the internet or do "id3" tags have to be made?
I know the movie/tv art is fetched off the internet dependent on the file name or the folder it is ins name or you can manually type in what it is and select the right movie for common movie titles. This can end up being guessing between 3 movies of the same name. I'm not quite sure how you can go about fetching album art, if your music already has some it will display in xbmc though.
It is possible but do find out if you can get your output going first. A friend of mine purchased an Acer Revo for ~$200 and put a customized version of Linux on it that runs XBMC Live. So basically, it just boots directly into the XBMC interface. It's working great for him and plays back 1080p no problem.
what software do you use to convert your dvds and blurays? your picture quality looks amazing. what format do you suggest for the higest quality? thanks!
you're set up is rediculous man, good job. It could be improved with with a projector though. What specs do you have for your HTPC? I'm thinking about either building or purchasing one and I cant decide weather to go all out or buy something like an Asus O!Play... after seeing this vid I really want something to put XBMC on
Great vid. I really appreciate the effort put into the editing of the video as well. The wall outlets for the cables was awesome. I wish I had a dedicated room for this stuff. Love most version of the Aeon skins, but REALLY loved the piece on emulators. Would love to do something similar, but I don't have the knowhow within Ubuntu (running XBMC LiveCD 9.11 v12 for Linux because of the VDPAU feature..), to configure emulators, gamepads etc... Great video anyway. Thanks for sharing!
I have the same logitech rumbledpad and it's always flashing it's stupid light even when theres tons of charge still left in the battery. I ended up putting some blu-tak over the led because it was getting annoying! lol
Nice vid btw, similar type of thing I hope to acheive with MediaPortal (which is a branch of xbmc)
