  • She must have trusted that pilot a hell of a lot to do this. Perhaps she'd also gone through a drill of hitting the concrete if she got the signal from her lookout crew. 1970s flight attendants confirmed for having nerves of steel.

  • Oh for the days when flight attendants were hot young girls instead of homos and angry middle-aged dykes

  • @niselat Bahahahaha, class

  • @niselat Yeah!

  • Flippen awesome

  • How to distroy your ears in seconds.

  • She was HOTTTT!!!...Though I was waiting on her and the hair to blow away after that scene...Wow!!

  • Are those the must-have fashion of the day; Hotpants?!!!

  • I wish F/A's would wear boots again...

  • Looks like the burner can filter wasnt fitted to engine number 2, which is why its smokier...

  • The Jets in the boneYard, But, She still flying... LOL

  • @FlyboyAloha We now call her old gray ass "Senior MaMa" fucking retire and give a kid a job!!!

  • say selena 10 times clap 5 times send this to two videoes and check your voice

  • "with schedule's you can depend on, free cocktails, and one burned-out smoky engine..."

  • is that a dress or a belted t-shirt?

  • @alSation81 Appears to be hot pants with a belted top.

  • CNBC Titans: Herb Kelleher on Thursday July 14th at 9p eastern - talks about Southwest Airlines Flight Attendants and the free whiskey promotion that helped keep it in the air.

  • On AA

  • I was on a flight from San Antonio to cheyenne with a 2 hour layover in Dallas and it was $2000 for 3 people in coach

  • @Thekingswa747 You gotta get a friend or a family member or even yourself to work at the airlines. Then you will be flying for free.

    /Iknowbecausemymomworksfordelta

  • @ThomsonAirwaysStaff people don't like to fly on Thomson or AA because the don't like mean flight attendants, old planes ,bad schedules, fees for stupid things and fuel surcharges , and people can afford it they just chose SWA , but British is is a good airline infect the chairman of British when southwest was founded and the founder were very good friends

  • That's the only southwest commercial where the actors didn't work for southwest

  • Now they they nickel and dime us, how sad.

  • 26 people are a320 pilots

  • @Lakewood. You are upset that you are searched, but you are the one that is scared. Your insecurity drives these policies. Make up your mind, do we need to be scared of he ragheads, or do we not need to be scared of ragheads and stop all this useless security? No, I am sure you dont see the irony at all. Of all the people I know, the people that complain the most about being scanned or searched are the people that drive the policy by insisting we are at risk. Man up Dude. Box cutters! BOO!!

  • thats alot of smoke. was the commercial a last minute thing or was there a last minute plane switch?

  • Boeing 737-200

  • Remember when B.O.A.C had a classic, conservative uniform and the Cabin Crew didn't go to work in PVC looking like a street hooker? Remember when TWA trained all of their flight attendants at Breech Academy whick is still considered to be the world's finest flight attendant school? Remember when Southwest wasn't in the air? Weren't those the days!

  • @ThomsonAirwaysStaff Remember when TWA was an airline...hahaha

  • @kevinhaaga American Airlines ruined TWA and lost the employees their jobs! I personally think that TWA was better than American Airlines!

  • @ThomsonAirwaysStaff No our liberal president jimmy carter and his deregulation act of 1978 made it so TWA, Eastern, National, Pan Am and a host of other world class airlines went bankrupt. All so poor slobs in t-shirts can fly now instead of taking the bus.......

  • @jimdep333 What happened to the days when you dressed up to fly? I personally think, if you can't afford economy on American, Thomson or British, you shouldn't be flying!

  • in 30 seconds she manages to use the words "love" "legs" and "cock"

    advertising at its finest

  • Love the JT8D!!!!

  • @vargas37 the best music!

  • Love the belching smoke from the 737 and unfortunately, the spokesmodel lost her hearing after the second take.

  • @MNBluestater did she really lose her hearing

  • @MNBluestater I read somewhere that the pilot in the commercial said after seeing the flyonvver

'Dammit, you gave me one with smokey engines!

  • @ziggyboi1995 I'm sure back then, Southwest did not have many planes to choose from.......

  • OMG Is she wearing the actual uniform!?

    I wish it was so...

  • Remember when flight attendants had no rights? Remember when they were treated as sex objects and not serious workers. Remember how "stewardesses" couldn't be married, pregnant, exceed age 30, weigh more than 130lbs and had to be white? Remember that the only way they gained respect was by fighting for their rights? Remember that now before you say that it was so much better back then.

  • The author of this video was wondring how many takes to get it right.....I would imagine not to many with the operating costs of a B737-200. GREAT VIDEO AND GREAT SOUND!! I LOVE IT!!

  • now that's a stewardess! (yes, stewardess)

  • It's hard to believe it didn't create more wind on the model and blow her over. That's aerodynamics for ya.

  • @JetMechMA , I wondered about that myself. An airliner that low creates heavy "ground effect". Maybe it was high enough, but even her hair didn't seem bothered. Those engines were the old, loud jets and one was exhausting darker than the other.

  • @smimot I think the engine exhausting dark smoke was nearer to being worn out. The smoke is caused by burning inefficiently. The more efficient a jet engine is, the cleaner burning it is. Airlines didn't clean up their act because they were made to, they cleaned up that exhaust because it was money going out the tail pipe.

  • @JetMechMA, Haha, yes, " money going out the tailpipe," literally.

  • That was great timing. I wonder if that was done in one take.

  • @rossjohn93 Probably no. they probably did a dry run without the 737 and timed how long it took to take off, then worked the script around that.

  • If I almost pass out watching this coolness, I wonder what people thought back in the day when this was new.

  • Amazing clip! She must have nerves of steel!

  • Below this video, people who cry at home while they dont do anything about their problems outside of it

    LOVE IT

  • Remember when flight was a privilege for the rich and upper middle income and normal people couldn't afford it?

  • @johnwbyrd Yes, those were the days. When Eastern, National, TWA and Pan Am ruled the skies. Then jimmy carter and his deregulation act has made this industry like Greyhound in the sky. Kinda like what got us in trouble when he introduced the community reinvestment act so that people that couldn't afford to have a mortgage were granted one anyway. The liberal way. It was a key factor in the current recession and housing crisis recently reinvigorated under slick willy bill clinton.

  • @jimdep333 You republicans are communist traitors to America. The economy collapsed during Bush and republicans fund explosive growth in communist China with jobs outsourced from America. Airline dereg was first proposed and promoted by repuiblicans during Ford. Yes, Carter and Kennedy and Cannon took it up, but it was created by republicans. Greedy republican airline execs supported dereg... and they are all liquidated now.

  • @JetMechMAreally dude? your a fuckin idiot the unions of this country and the greedy fucking democrats that back them have nothung to do with jobs leaving this country? clinton signing bills to let every fucker with a credit score of 125 could buy a house had nothing to do with our economy fuckin dumbass

  • @dgarr64 Unions are the victims of outsourcing, not the cause. An American can NEVER compete with a foreigner who only makes $8 dollars a day and you know it damn well. The mortgage melt down was NOT caused by the CRA....because the CRA only affected banks and home loans are sold by more than just banks. So who you gonna blame now? Your ignorance is astounding. republicans fund explosive growth in communist China with jobs outsourced from America. You're a communist.

  • @dgarr64: the unions of this country"

JM: Jobs represented by unions have NEVER been greater than 37% and that was way back in the 1950's. Today?...that number is down to 7% of workers are unionized. republicans have always outsourced FAR more non-union jobs than union jobs. Which goes to debunk the rabid right-wing myth that unions were the cause of outsourcing. Again, workers are the vicims of outsourcing, not the cause. You're just anti-American, that's all.

  • @jimdep333 You fuckin dumbass....republicans started the deregulation ball rolling. Look up the fucking history fuckin dummy. Every single fucking lopsided trade deal was started by republicans. NAFTA was created by republicans, signed by bush, introduced by republicans, the majority of those voting to pass NAFTA were republicans. The majority voting against outsourcing the jobs, were Democrats. Why don't I ever see you mother fuckers praising the Dems who voted to save your fucking job?

  • @JetMechMA I watch an airline commercial...and there's two guys complaining about politics.

  • @TTDMFfreaknew: I watch an airline commercial...and there's two guys complaining about politics.

JM: The throat cutting Southwest business model is responsible for killing the careers of tens of thousands of good hard working aviation professionals and DESTROYING the airline industry. Politicis has EVERYTHING to do with the Southwest story. Southwest is the most anti-union entity there EVER was. The VAST majority of man hours worked on SWA planes is at non-union outside vendors.

  • @JetMechMA ...I'd tap that.

  • @TTDMFfreaknew: I'd tap that.

JM: Damn Southwest....(I would too! ;)

  • I sadly wasn't alive during that time of service, although I was allowed to go into the cockpit in like 2000ish... Now its pay $130 for a 1.5 hour flight, be invaded by the TSA, crappy flight attendants (Except SWA :D) $3 Food/Drinks (In fact, one flight I was on, forgot to load them on the plane!! It was a 3 hour flight!) and excessive delays.. Oh america, you're special alright...

  • My mom told me, that in 1993 (When I was 3 years old) a Malev Captain carried me through the intire airport because my mom had to carry all the luggage.

    Now THATS serive.

Btw. It was with a Tupolev 134 :p

  • So sorry to hear you aren't royalty any more now that all us slobs get to fly.

  • @morepamdemonium thumbs up, but what did he say? i cant find the comment.

  • @TheEgg185 It has been quite awhile but, it was something to the affect of remember the good ole days when only more affluent people could afford plane travel and you got treated like a king now every bum can afford it and we are stuck traveling with their company. It came across as very elitist.

  • I still remember my very first flight in 1990 when I was around 3 years old. the stewardess was lot more friendlier and charming and even noticed my boredom face during those killing non stop flight from LA to Hong Kong.

I did not get that experience nowadays, even when I paid double sometimes just for the sake of extra leg room :p

  • I first flew in 1971 from EWR-LAX. The only thing I can compare it to is boarding and traveling on a top of the line Cruise. People were dressed like they were going to a high end restaurant.

Food, comfort, respect, friendly flight crew, sparkling clean planes. All gone thanks to deregulation .

  • @carolwoody2 You' are so correct, Carol! I'm in my mid 40's and remember traveling from Phila to Hollywood Florida several times a year b/c my grandfather lived there. We would take NORTHEAST AIRLINES (Remember the old "Yellowbird" jingle?--Yellow-bird, we make your vacations fun//Yellow bird, our service is number one....).

Yes, those WERE the days and I'm privileged to have lived through them!

  • @lakewood85 Yes, I remember all too well. Back in the 60's and 70's was the BEST era imo.

  • @lakewood85

    Dear miss lake,

    Just fly first class, instead.

    cheers.

    from,

    del-boy.

  • No way she is super hot, i banged her last night!

  • @schelldonnie That's great. She's now in her 60's. How was it?

  • I hope she was wearing earplugs.

  • ok the free cocktails would be amazing, but glad the flight attendants can wear pants now

  • Wow....she's really pret--OMG, the plane is going to hit her! LOL

  • I just got the biggest boner watching those lovely, luscious thighs. I bet she's still a babe today.

  • @minutemanIV It's been almost 40 years since she did that commercial, and she was in her early 20's at best. She'd be around 60 now; hardly jack off material. She's a jealous postmenopausal twat who's bitter because her youth is gone (hate to break it to you.)

  • @jadedmastermind Eeeew, she's around 60, huh? (I'm not very good at dating videos.) I think my boner won't be as boney the next time I see her thighs. However, I DO like the way she says COCKtail. And I do like the way stewardesses dressed back then, exposing a lot of flesh. Yummy. Check out the sexpot Jacqueline Bisset in Airport '70.

  • If life was like this I was born decades too late. :(

  • The 737-200. :) My favorite.

  • that woman was probably deafened by those JT8D engines-hooray for noise pollution laws!

  • This when only classy people flew on planes. Now you get whoever wandered off the street on an airplane.

  • back when all you had to pay on the airline was a ticket. no $5 for a bag of chips or soda

  • The only reason to watch old air disaster movies is the shots of the great aircraft, well dressed passengers and crews, and well appointed cabins with plenty of leg room. I wish people still dressed up to fly. People wear sweats now, and not always recently washed ones. What's up with that? I want people to care how they look, stews that are dressed like that girl, and Dean Martin flying the plane. ;)

  • Is the old Continental Airlines commercial with the slogan "We really move our tails for you" available on youtube.com. It was a short-lived campaign from around 1974.

  • @NoirFan01 I haven't seen it on YouTube, but that's one funny play on words! Have you seen one for Western Airlines where they sang,"You get 3 feet for your two legs on Western Airlines!" Nice contrast to 2010 seat pitch economics!

  • @fmagloire1 I haven't heard that ad. I have to admit I'm not familiar with that airline. The old cigarette commercials had good jingles: "Taste me, taste me, c'mon and taste me!"

  • Gee, was that the aircraft I had my emergency landing on? Fumes??? What fumes?/

  • Can we charter an airline that doesn't accept kids? An "adults-only" airline. Not for any other reason than you're guaranteed no screaming from disgusting germ machine children the entire trip. No rude, bloated mothers who feel that their choice to have a child infringes on your choice to get to your destination in a reasonably good mental state. Who wouldn't pay extra for that?

  • @reymatt76: No such thing will ever happen, unless high-speed-rail becomes a reality and takes the pressure off of airlines. BTW, there was an executive 'adult' airline back in the 1980's...it was called MGM Grand.

  • Everything was complimentary in the old days but the prices were also fixed and sometimes were pretty expensive. You actually paid for all of that service with your ticket. These days, after deregulation, airlines simply can't afford to maintain their large fleets *and* pamper it's passengers. Something had to give. As a passenger, you are entitled to a safe and on-time flight. And that's what they give you...most of the time lol

  • why dont flight attendants dress like that know

  • What a great TV spot. Brilliant and hot.

  • i remember when the flight attendants were this hot!!!

  • Oh, boy. She mentioned "free" cocktails for everyone.

You know what this means is next, right? They'll be CHARGING you for those cocktails.

Anytime they have to mention the fact that something is "free", it means it's bugging the shit out of them, and it's only a matter of time that you'll be charged up the ass for it.

They weren't mentioning "free" anything in the 1950's and 1960's, they just gave it to you.

  • Coincidentally, I was thinking the exact same thing about the takes. But they probably had the actress rehearse and time it without the flyby. Then again, maybe they did some "dress rehearsals" with the flyby, as she probably needed to get used to the experience. The noise and exaust of those early jet engines is mindblowing. Wonder how much money she got for abusing her eradrums and risking her life so nonchalantly.

  • wow imagine the number of takes it must have taken to get that shot just right

  • Hotpants be damned, this is the best ad ever created.

  • One more thing. The sound is pretty "location" sounding for a studio take...which would be quieter...and wouldn't have an "air" location sound like this commercial. This was done for real...on location. The jet might have done a number of passes over the runway so they could do the spot several times. Also, with lenses, the jet is not as close as it might seem...but it is very impressive.

  • Also, you can see a difference on her in the lighting...reflectors moving on location. Lastly, I remember commercials from this time period...doing them real was pretty typical. It was probably cheaper to do it live than via a spx. Miniskirts were great...hot pants even better. It may appear sexist today...but it's what we had then. Those were the sexy period in stewardess, I mean flight attandant, uniforms. Previously, in the '50's the outfits were classy...but still attractive.

  • @kubarebo I disagree. Check out how far she walks forward and then back...where's the edge of the screen. The jet is forward of the plane in front of her or behind her. Also, check her performance...there's a little delay in her monologe...perhaps hearing the jet from behind. I thought it might be a composit...I was looking for the blast of air on her...but she's got her hair tightly put up in the front...and the ponytail is blowing from the jet wash when she walks away.

  • Smokin'. The plane, not the girl!

  • Those legs. Those legs. Who cares about the damned plane?

  • That jet would have ripped her clothes off lol. Nice try though :))

  • Holy hell. My mind is fucking blown. Today the outfit would be sexist, the airplane overhead would be too unsafe, and the free amenities too expensive.

  • Aaahhuuuuuuuhhhh !!! This is awesome !! I´d like to be back in the 70´s. That was a great time.

  • I do no how they have the guts to say that with CGI it goes faster and cheaper. To make this shot you just need a good timing. You do it once and it is on tape. And you don't need 10 nerds who will work during a month trying to make the scene as real as possible but in the end failing at it.

FX in the camera: faster, direct result, cheaper, looks more real then cgi will ever be.

CGI: cost a lot, a lot of people is required, ultra sofisticated PC's, a result that will never top reality.

  • @Fapsamup Conclusion: CGI is an insult to the beauty of reality.

  • @Fapsamup

I completely agree. Before CGI, if you saw a great stunt or special effect in a movie, you realised it had really been done and you had a sense of wonder about how on earth they could achieve such a thing.

Now, the most 'spectacular' things just aren't special or wondrous anymore, because you know it's not real, and has just been created on computer.

    It pisses me off.

  • @TheMightyHartley It's hard to be impressed anymore isn't it ? & I don't think I'm an ego maniac & high on myself or anything but it seems like that window of wonder was short lived, now it's over the top/attempted shock value( which cant be done anymore) & excess everything...

  • @tjfreak

You're absolutely right. The wonder has gone. Look at the shouts of 'fake' when stuff like this appears.

Slightly off-topic: I saw a TV programme recently about the old-school special make-up effects artists for films (prosthetics, monsters etc.)

Many of them are now out of the business because CGI literally took their jobs. And these guys were the best - Oscar winners, in fact. The irony is that CGI looks far worse, but is far cheaper. It's very sad.

  • I remember when they used to call Southwest "Angel Airlines."

  • One of the most awe-inspiring commercials of all time! It combines several great things.. 1) Airplanes! 2) Low altitude flyovers and 3) A great concept in customer service.

    Gives me chills every time.

  • Wish they still had stewardesses wearing hot pants. Not many "flight attendants" look like this. That is what happens when the Government took over hiring decisions of private companies. Now some gay dude asks what beverage you want.

  • @interceptor24 Boo !

  • its not a miniskirt,its hotpants

  • I can't believe they pulled that off and I'm surprised she could speak correctly.

  • @Icemangqx I am more surprised that plane did not knock her head off,

  • If that skirt was any shorter... I like the outfit but man that skirt is a little too much. Add an inch to it geez! I can't get over her saying "with first class leg room" Yeah you've got that right!

  • today thats illegal haha

  • Classic!

  • Awesome ad. Who directed this?

  • Dear All,

I have some questions about psychology:

    (1) Why do we love flying?

    (2) Why do we feel more happy and optimistic when watching airlines' TV commercial?

    (3) Why does flying is an representation of culture diversity?

    (4) Why do we think that aerospace service and industry are representations of leadership and "working together"?

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)

P.S. This lady is sexy with mini skirt!!

  • hello again

  • It has to be a faked "green screen" shot--the jet wash from a plane that close would have nearly knocked her over. You don't see so much as a strand of hair moving.

  • if I was that girl it would have gone like

" a aiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrr, What the Fuck was that!!!! JESUS CHRIST who got the nut pilot!!!! what the fly god damn"

  • sexism and hearing damage. the good old days.

  • remember when men wore jackets and ties and women dresses, the hostesses were treated with respect and the customers like royalty. Drinks, extra servings, why they'd even "tuck you in" when you started dosing off. Then travel became available to all and now it is just a horrible exercise that makes you want to stay home instead of being "wanded" by some TSA jerk who previously worked in McDonalds.

  • @corkpopfrance well theres a negative way to look at it. You can make air travel a very positive thing with southwest.

  • @corkpopfrance Dude, you're lucky if you ONLY get wanded! ;-)))

  • @corkpopfrance LOL true!!!!!

  • I love that flyby

  • Comment removed

  • Free cocktails? Back in the day it must have been fun to fly. Not like the "flying bus" experience as of late.

  • @waterfrontdude But times and people have changed. Free drinks means free drunks these days. And people don't have the discipline to behave themselves. They all feel "entitled" to the airlines treating the customer like they're gold when they're behaving like assholes.

Good treatment still happens to people who are cool.

  • lol what if she got hit with the plane lol splat

  • Holy s@#t! You won't see an airliner being flown like that today, or anyone standing on the runway underneath it!

  • WOW that's sexy

  • old classic ad..

  • Remember what iot was like when flying was still enjoyable? Remember when paying twice as much for first class actually meant more than just an extra 2 inches of leg room? Remember?

  • totally true

  • cute outfits! i think she still works for SW, most stewardesses are old compared to other countries'. i fly international all the time and thats one big difference, along with the service.

  • Bad-ass commercial.

  • "remember what it was like? now im gona go buy some heaing aids... no particular reason"

  • lol imagine running her over with that plane going fast

  • I don't think she would feel it. Like getting killed by a grenade going off within a foot of you.

  • Nice Video.

  • "damnit! its gonna take at least 4 washes to get that smell of JET A exhaust out of my hotpants.."

  • I think I saw this flight attendant on one of my routes. Shame =(

  • Do you speak from experience? I think not. Grow up and get a life. I am a female flight attendant for SWA and have been for over ten years. That "stupid" comment has never crossed my mind.

  • Good for you. Been flying SWA since 73-74. GREAT airline. However, I do have fond recollections of those Hot Pants. But too old now to do anything but "recollect" Sad.

  • first class leg room for first class legs. the rest of us get squeezed

  • they only had one take to do this becuase they only had enough money for one take. They had only 3 or 4 aircraft at the time. one of the aircraft was in reserve, (the one they were to use in this commercial). However, one of the planes that was in service went down for maintainence and they had to give up the "Standby Aircraft". The one in this commercial is the one that went down for repairs. This explains the massive amounts of smoke coming out of the #2 engine

  • @Guitar423 This was done with back projection, I think. The girl is standing in front of a screen, in the studio, and the camera and projector are synchronized. Go to 0:22 and look at the lighting.

  • @kubarebo

I see what you mean, but I think the only reason it looks like that is because she's been close-lit, so she appears to 'pop' compared to the background.

Watch rear projection in Hollywood films of this period - that was the best money could buy, and it looked far, far worse than this.

  • Looked and certainly sounded like they were going full throttle. That is one crazy commercial.

  • Number two is smoking like crazy!

  • Nice vid... not sure if the plane could have been RC, but anyways I find Southwest Airliens Commercials quite funny even to this day, unlike most other digital feces of commercials I see.

  • I wonder how many takes they had to do of this ad. Poor girl must have been DEAF after having that noisy old 737-200 ROAR over head a few dozen times!

  • omg its freaky at the end

  • female stewardess in hot pants, free cocktails, those were the good old days

  • @boomerlesterok Damn straight! Wish I could have been around during those days. Didn't know WN served free cocktails back then.

  • No, sorry, we don't know what it was like before there was somebody else up there who loved us, obviously not, we're watching this on YouTube. HAHA. I love Southwest and Continental.

  • Got to be the coolest airline commercial (for me) ever! The ones from the 70s are cute but sooooo corny. This one is sooooo cool!
