Salif Keita is the direct descendant of Sondjata Keita (known as Emperor or "Mansa" Mari Djata I) founder of the Mali Empire in 1230, and his model for government would guide the empire into greatness and beyond its zenith toward its eventual dissolution in 1645. That's why the family of Salif, opposed to him when he started to sing, because of his high position. But he continued and he is great, isn't he?
