Hell if I can buy one I would if its a good price with all spare parts too.It would be cool for a sunday drive.I would like all armaments and ammo too.
I must admit, the Russians found pay dirt when they designed the BMP-1. They designed it to be light, fairly armored, and carry quiet a punch considering its role. The Russians, once again, had designed something the West had nothing to beat for a while until IFVs like the Bradley and Warrior were fielded, even then, they have not seen as much combat time compared to the Soviet BMP series.
I am willing to say, that the BMP-1 is currently the best IFV in existence.
The rear doors hold extra fuel for on the march. They are used to get better range to get to battles. Alot of people say this is the Achilles heel of the BMP-1 and BMP-2 but I personally think they are just trying to discredit the design. It a great design especially since this is the first true IFV. Main problem with the BMP 1 and 2 is lack of armor. .50 caliber will penetrate sides and rear. I think it will fiend off 14.5mm to the front not sure.
No shit sherlock a rpg could penetrate it. It's not a tank. ALL apc/ifv can be penetrated by rpgs including the M2 Bradley. The purpose of an IFV is primarily to protect soldiers from small arms and heavy machine gun fire. They do not hold up well to rockets and cannons.
The armor of the BMP-1 and 2 was inferior from the start, it can be defeated by a RPG-7 which was in use 5 years before BMP-1 was adopted it doesn't make sense that BMP-1 doesn't have an armor that defeat the RPG-7. This is why Russian mechanized infantry rode on top of their APC rather than inside of it to reduce casualty if the APC was hit.
The BMP is a piece of crap. For instance the back of the vehicle doors holds fuel tanks, which means if they take a round to the back, the BMP will go up in flames. Not just that, it was lightly armored. heck an rpg round or rocket launcher would blow the BMB to pieces. The vehicle is a piece of shit.
No dumbass. Those are not the main fuel tanks... maybe you need to learn something about our eastern weapons before shooting your mouth off...
Those are spare fuel tanks. Any time the BMP-1 goes into combat those doors are filled with sand or dirt, not fuel. By the way, you are saying "BMP" as if all of them are the same...
@cda47 BMP-1 was designed in the late 60's so ofcourse the armour is thinner in today's comparisons... but BMP-3 is better than your bradley, and even US experts admit that USA was never able to make anything comparable to even the BMP-1. So you fail. Not to mention that many upgrade kits have been produced so upgraded BMP-1's have more armour and new systems.
And trust me, it is not like your Bradley can withstand even RPG-7's with old PG-7V warheads. Not to mention that I have seen personally BMP-1's that have suvived mines, IED's and RPG-7 fire.
@cda47 the back of the vehicle doors hold SAND. They can be used for extra fuel tanks if the BMP is going on a long march, but they're mainly filled with sand.. Your BMP knowledge is a piece of shit...
The BMP series is intersting but sadly out dated. They look cool dirty and the run really well but they dont hold up well to new IFV and Anti-Tank weapons. Still you got yo love them thougth.

@STG44musikmeister
This is true, but the effective range of an IFV is much further than most AT systems.

@5687678
That is not why they rode on top of it.
