phone is amazing. and the development on this phone is twice as amazing. Running Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) on my motorola triumph as we speak (:
@GRI3S There is a VERY BETA version of CyanogenMod 9 which is based on Android 4.0, however a LOT of stuff is broken or flaky and I wouldn't recommend running it quite yet unless you just like experimenting and don't mind having an unstable phone.
craigslist.. 100.00 bucks. no worries no hassle. I heard Best Buy had a bad batch. it was 25 bucks a month. they raised there prices too 35 bucks a month.
Yea the volume can be too soft at times. I think it has to do with the format of the media your watching or listening too. On pandora the sound quality is great. Youtube or private media can be a hit or miss. But all the sound recorded threw the device itself. Camera/recorder is pretty great.
@MrProspect718 I do not have one of these handsets to review for you, however I can tell you that it is a great phone. The LG Marquee is also known as the LG Optimus Black on other carriers and is a fantastic handset. Large screen, decent camers, fast processor.
I bought this phone today and tried using my front faced camera and it keeps freezing on me. Does anyone have this problem with the camera on the front? Help pleaseeee :'((((
@selenaxoxo896 I love the phone, to this day it is one of the fastest android handsets I have used short of the super expensive phones like the Samsung Galaxy series. For the money it costs and the no-contract experience it is hard to beat.
@MyRedneckLife Thats true. I found a couple bugs but there are ways around them and as far as hardware. I say the flash is really too strong. The camera could be better. and the back cover falls off too easily. i wish it had a sort of lock. I had a couple galaxy phones on the TMobile network, the device are awesome! But.. the 3g at the time wasnt great even for living in a big city. There 4g is better. but Ive moved on. and what i get with the moto is not bad for the value.
@DanValentineFilms The Optimus Black is an entirely different phone, Look it up. It's available on several other carriers and is indeed called the "Optimus Black".
@DaarkRedeemer Actually it's $249 at Radioshack. I would Google Motorola Triumph and look for a better price. I've seen people get the phone for as low as $180. You just have to dig hard and deep. Otherwise, you can pay the full $300.. when I believe the price will be dropping pretty soon.
bad ass phone ima get either next week or the week after and i like how they changed their plans 55 unlimited everything is better than 60 and the fact that this phone has flash with camera is aweosme but i wanna know whats the battery life like!
@AmazingFaux I'm not sure what exactly you mean by lagging, but I can tell you that the Triumph is one of the snappiest Android phones short of the really expensive dual core handsets.
@NarutoFanBoyie That isn't really lag, that's part of the transition effects from whatever launcher you use. For example in ADW Launcher and Go Launcher you can control the transition effect and the speed of the effect when you swipe to a different screen.
I've read elsewhere that Skype worked pretty well on the LG Optimus V -- an option for cheapos like me to manage with Virgin Mobile's 300m plan (make almost-free calls through Skype via Web/data instead). Does that work well on the Triumph as well? THANKS!
Best review of this phone I have seen! and I took your advice and bought it! I must say that I love this device! It's my first Android and I feel fortunate that Virgin was able to bring a phone with these type of specs to customers like me.... very thorough review my friend
@helloitsmelol097 The Triumph and the Wildfire S are two different classes of phone, this is why the Wildfire S is so much cheaper than the Triumph. The Wildfire S is pretty much the same phone as the Optimus V and Optimus Slider, only the Wildfire S has HTC's Sense UI on top of Android. The Triumph is a much more powerful phone...
@mmw21111 P970 = GSM version of the Optimus Black
P990 = LG Optimus 2X, an entirely different phone
The CDMA version of the Optimus Black is the LS855 aka "Marquee" for Sprint and it's partners will get their own versions (AS855 for Alltell, US855 for US Cellular, VM855 for Virgin Mobile)
@bradbeckett No, that would be impossible to do since to detect the presence of a legitimate WiFi connection you would have to have the WiFi radio on and searching for a signal in the first place. Android will switch between WiFi and mobile data (3G, etc) seamlessly whenever the phone is in range of a registered (or open) WiFi access point.
@Kmackinonem The Motorola Triumph has a glass screen, Dow Corning's Gorilla Glass as a matter of fact. It also has from the factory a thick plastic film protector applied that many of us have chosen to remove. The glass screen feels great
@2pacbeast Like I said in the video numerous times, no one knows for sure. We all thought it would be mid-Decmber but so far no sign of an upcoming launch. There have been a few rumours that it has been pushed back to february.
@showjumper44 Yes, it's called the Android Market and comes with the phone. There are hundreds of thousands of free apps for the downloading, and several very good paid apps and games as well.
@SoFlyy155 No news on the release of the Optimus Black... there are some rumours that the release has been pushed back to February but nothing official.
Is there anyway you can remove * Virgin Mobile * from the screen when you look the screen ? & When your powering the phone can you remove the * Virgin Mobile * sound & image ?
@MyRedneckLife I'm trying to choose between this phone and a new iPhone. One reason I love the iPhone is there are apps where you can make your own ringtones from your own music. I was wondering is there a app on the android market where you can make your own ringtones for this phone as well? Thanks in advance for your help!
@daisy7293 Yes, there are several... RingDroid comes to mind immediately. It will let you make ringtones out of any sound file on your phone and will let you edit them as well.
@TheElricKNIGHT No, Skype is a third party app... one of hundreds of thousands in the Android market. To call people you have a contacts list built into the phone just like most any other phone - people just sometimes install Skype so they can video chat with other people or so they can make voice calls to other Skype users without using cellular voice minutes. (It works through the data connection - be it WiFi or 3G)
ya i still have the 25 a month plan on my optimus v because i bought the phone a good while ago. I just make sure i pay my bill on time so it stays 25
@SuckittBitchxD I would venture to guess that IF the Optimus Black comes out mid-Deccember as rumour says then the price of the Triumph MAY decrease shortly thereafter. I'm betting we see a $50 price drop.
@MyRedneckLife you know your knitpicky wantings of this phone could probably be in the android market haha. I mean for goodness sake they have a police scanner radio app o_O
@jokerskull1 $299.99 - however Virgin Mobile has had it for $80 off on their site if you use the coupon code 'Giving' - that sale may be over with now though.
@MyRedneckLife also I wanted to know I have the samsung intercept, yep the intercept fuck my life right? Anyways I've had this phone since May of this year and still get to pay 25/month for service. I want to get this phone and what I want to know is it I get it and just use the swap phones option would I get to keep my 25 dollar plan?
@Mockingbird115 Yes, so long as you don't let your account expire and so long as you don't change plans you are grandfathered in at the $25/mo rate no matter what phone you use - and you can switch phones via the 'swap phones' link on the website and you'll still be grandfathered in at the $25 a month plan.
One major motivation for me to upgrade from my Intercept aside from screen size would be the camera, esp video. Sadly Triumph doesn't look like a huge jump forward, esp for the frame rate issues. Do you have any clue if the Optimus Black's camera will be any better than Triumph's?
@warmsignal Yes the Triumph's camera is downright abysmal especially for video. That's one of my main complaints with the phone... The Optimus Black has a much better camera and you can find video samples on Youtube if you look around some.
@SmileProductionsINC Yes, of course. I'd be surprised to find any Android handset that didn't since media playback is one of the main features of the operating system. It's a standard 3.5mm stereo mini-jack for use with stereo headphones.
@MisoMika If your phone requires you to constantly force close apps then you are missing out on a good experience. What frustrates me the most about the Intercept is it could have been a great phone if they had just thought out the internals better. The actual hand feel and weight of the phone is fantastic, and the keyboard is one of the best I've seen. But they screwed it all up by gimping the RAM and making Android run like ass... sad day
@TheYounghustler24 The Triumph is much better than the Optimus Slider, however I reccomend waiting to purchase anything until the Optimus Black is released mid-December. The Optimus Black will be as good as or better than the Triumph at the same price, and as a result the price on the Triumph should come down a bit.
What makes you think the Optimus Black is coming out mid dec? I am thinking about getting the Optimus V this friday at Target for $50, but if its mid dec, then I'll wait it out.
@Milespierre Nothing confirmed, just lots and LOTS of rumours some of them coming from VM themselves. Add to that the fact that an FCC license was granted already for a Virgin Mobile version of the Black and it's almost assuredly coming. It's possible that Virgin Mobile will change their mind and shelve plans for the OB on their service... but I prefer to be an optimist. :-)
when i first bought the intercept i was like :D... then i was like :I.... then i was like.....>:(, so now i am going to get the triumph and hopefully my emotions stay like :D for another 2 years, but i have a qeustion im 14 and use the phone for texting, internet, calls, youtube, and facebook, is there any problems with any of those ?
@ragingfirehydrant Absolutely no problems with any of those - I use it for all of the above CONSTANTLY. In fact on a Wi-Fi connection Youtube videos look fantastic. I also put recorded TV shows on it from my computer and watch them on the phone when I'm out and about.
Go to QVC.com and get this phone for $279 or you can do the 4 payments of $70 a month. Plus they give you a car charger, blue tooth headset and a case!
@MyRedneckLife Do you recommend getting this phone now? Do you know if there's going to be anything even better on the market in the next month or so? If I'm going to spend $300 on a phone I don't want it dropping to $200 by next month because a nicer phone is on the market.
@636Castle At the current time I would reccomend waiting to get the LG Optimus Black which should be out next month sometime. It's got specs as good as or better than the Triumph and should generally be a better phone.
@MyRedneckLife Thanks very much. I'm going to risk it still and hope the Black comes out *early* December. If it's within 30 days of today, I'll be able to return the Triumph and get the Black. I just really hope it's within 30 days, because the Optimus Black looks awesome. And great review on the Triumph by the way.
I am currently using the Optimus V, but would like to upgrade to the Triumph. i heard the Triumph does have a few screen issues, also with an "quick settings" app i can use my Optimus as a wi fi hotspot, is this possible with the Triumph?
@transformerland The Triumph had some issues with the first run of phones out of the factory - one of those was an issue with the screen flickering when you would put it to sleep or wake it up from the lock screen. The newer revision of the phone doesn't suffer from these issues and you should be safe with a Triumph you buy from the store today.
@transformerland Also on the wireless tethering... I don't believe you can tether using the stock rom at all - even with a third party app like quicksettings. However if you flash a custom ROM like TickerGuy's excellent CyanogenMod 7.1 port you can tether with no problem.
@DaDareDevils101 Aaaand once again we have a Youtube troll shooting his mouth off without knowing what he's talking about. Not only did I have an intercept for several months but I developed two quite popular ROMs for it. Fact is I have more knowledge of the Samsung Intercept in my right pinky than you do in your entire head. So you should just leave it alone... okay? bye
I recent bought the Wildfire S from Virgin. It only has 150mb of internal memory for applications and some apps such as Facebook or Pandora cant be transferred to my SD card. I have downloaded 3 apps and I'm pretty much maxed out on internal memory. How is the internal memory on the Motorola Triumph?
@MrMillertime3000 The Triumph has just over 1 gigabyte of memory for apps and games, which is one of the reasons it costs so much more than the Optimus and Wildfire...
@italianboy21000 I have the Wildfire S and overall it's a good phone from Android. Coming stock with 2.3.4 Gingerbread. However one monumental flaw I found was with the internal memory. You only get 150mb of internal memory for apps. I downloaded three apps and I'm pretty much maxed out on memory. I'm not able to transfer apps such as Facebook, Pandora, Words with Friends etc., to my SD card.
@MrMillertime3000 That's about right for the memory on the Wildfire, and the Optimus varieties have about the same. Three apps is a bit unusual though... you should be able to get quite a few more on there. Unless one of those three apps is some huge game or something...
@mahotsuko Your data will NEVER slow down when you're using WiFi, that bypasses the cellular network altogether. As for the 3G data cap it has not been implemented yet and they are saying it won't be until sometime in 2012. When it is the cap will be 5 gigabytes and that would take a loooong time to use up. You would literally have to be watching movies on youtube 24 hours a day to use that much data... or using your phone as a tether for your PC (which is what they are trying to stop).
@mussaobad1 Not a huge difference, but there are differences. Battery life is a bit better on 2.3 and there are some feature enhancements and overall speed improvements.
@mussaobad1 The Triumph by a long shot... the HTC Wildfire S is just another midrange handset that sits right along side the LG Optimus V and Optimus Slider in terms of power and features. The only thing the HTC does different is it has their 'Sense UI' running on top of Android.
@INKREDIBLEi As for an official update to Gingerbread your guess is as good as mine... possibly never since Virgin Mobile's efforts will be focused on the new Optimus Black when it comes out next month. However there is a very good custom port of CyanogenMod 7.1 (which is Gingerbread based) available in the wild, it's quite good but it requires installing a custom recovery on the phone which might be too hard for some people.,..
@JennasMusic76 It works the same as it does on every other Android handset - but if you've never used one before yes, in my opinion it works quite well both for viewing random videos, searching for videos, or even uploading videos to your own Youtube account. :-)
can you have the 25$ plane with motorola ?

To call people you have a contacts list built into the phone just like most any other phone - people just sometimes install Skype so they can video chat with other people or so they can make voice calls to other Skype users without using cellular voice minutes. (It works through the data connection - be it WiFi or 3G)

@TheElricKNIGHT The headphone jack accepts a standard 3.5mm minijack connector (what is on 99% of headsets)

ya i still have the 25 a month plan on my optimus v because i bought the phone a good while ago. I just make sure i pay my bill on time so it stays 25

Do you know when the price of this phone will decease ? & do you know when the other lg phone is coming out?
SuckittBitchxD 3 months ago
@SuckittBitchxD I would venture to guess that IF the Optimus Black comes out mid-Deccember as rumour says then the price of the Triumph MAY decrease shortly thereafter. I'm betting we see a $50 price drop.

@MyRedneckLife you know your knitpicky wantings of this phone could probably be in the android market haha. I mean for goodness sake they have a police scanner radio app o_O

how much was the phone
jokerskull1 3 months ago
@jokerskull1 $299.99 - however Virgin Mobile has had it for $80 off on their site if you use the coupon code 'Giving' - that sale may be over with now though.
MyRedneckLife 3 months ago
@MyRedneckLife also I wanted to know I have the samsung intercept, yep the intercept fuck my life right? Anyways I've had this phone since May of this year and still get to pay 25/month for service. I want to get this phone and what I want to know is it I get it and just use the swap phones option would I get to keep my 25 dollar plan?
Mockingbird115 2 months ago
@Mockingbird115 Yes, so long as you don't let your account expire and so long as you don't change plans you are grandfathered in at the $25/mo rate no matter what phone you use - and you can switch phones via the 'swap phones' link on the website and you'll still be grandfathered in at the $25 a month plan.
MyRedneckLife 2 months ago
@MyRedneckLife that is probably the best new i've ever heard in a loong time thanks a lot

@MyRedneckLife Just FYI...Its on sale right now for $149.99 for Cyber Monday...Woot Woot!!

One major motivation for me to upgrade from my Intercept aside from screen size would be the camera, esp video. Sadly Triumph doesn't look like a huge jump forward, esp for the frame rate issues. Do you have any clue if the Optimus Black's camera will be any better than Triumph's?
warmsignal 3 months ago
@warmsignal Yes the Triumph's camera is downright abysmal especially for video. That's one of my main complaints with the phone... The Optimus Black has a much better camera and you can find video samples on Youtube if you look around some.

I have the Lg Optimus V and i really want this phone!!!!
1996giodude 3 months ago
does this phone have a jack for headphones
SmileProductionsINC 3 months ago
@SmileProductionsINC Yes, of course. I'd be surprised to find any Android handset that didn't since media playback is one of the main features of the operating system. It's a standard 3.5mm stereo mini-jack for use with stereo headphones.
MyRedneckLife 3 months ago
Is the Optimus Black going to be just like this phone, How do you even know about it???
FreeMusic101Guy 3 months ago
@MisoMika If your phone requires you to constantly force close apps then you are missing out on a good experience. What frustrates me the most about the Intercept is it could have been a great phone if they had just thought out the internals better. The actual hand feel and weight of the phone is fantastic, and the keyboard is one of the best I've seen. But they screwed it all up by gimping the RAM and making Android run like ass... sad day
MyRedneckLife 3 months ago
which is better optimus slider or triumph
TheYounghustler24 3 months ago
@TheYounghustler24 The Triumph is much better than the Optimus Slider, however I reccomend waiting to purchase anything until the Optimus Black is released mid-December. The Optimus Black will be as good as or better than the Triumph at the same price, and as a result the price on the Triumph should come down a bit.
MyRedneckLife 3 months ago
@MyRedneckLife
What makes you think the Optimus Black is coming out mid dec? I am thinking about getting the Optimus V this friday at Target for $50, but if its mid dec, then I'll wait it out.
Milespierre 3 months ago
@Milespierre Nothing confirmed, just lots and LOTS of rumours some of them coming from VM themselves. Add to that the fact that an FCC license was granted already for a Virgin Mobile version of the Black and it's almost assuredly coming. It's possible that Virgin Mobile will change their mind and shelve plans for the OB on their service... but I prefer to be an optimist. :-)

when i first bought the intercept i was like :D... then i was like :I.... then i was like.....>:(, so now i am going to get the triumph and hopefully my emotions stay like :D for another 2 years, but i have a qeustion im 14 and use the phone for texting, internet, calls, youtube, and facebook, is there any problems with any of those ?
ragingfirehydrant 3 months ago
@ragingfirehydrant Absolutely no problems with any of those - I use it for all of the above CONSTANTLY. In fact on a Wi-Fi connection Youtube videos look fantastic. I also put recorded TV shows on it from my computer and watch them on the phone when I'm out and about.

i dont think you suck it might be a slow reaction acceleration

Go to QVC.com and get this phone for $279 or you can do the 4 payments of $70 a month. Plus they give you a car charger, blue tooth headset and a case!

@MyRedneckLife Do you recommend getting this phone now? Do you know if there's going to be anything even better on the market in the next month or so? If I'm going to spend $300 on a phone I don't want it dropping to $200 by next month because a nicer phone is on the market.
636Castle 3 months ago
@636Castle At the current time I would reccomend waiting to get the LG Optimus Black which should be out next month sometime. It's got specs as good as or better than the Triumph and should generally be a better phone.
MyRedneckLife 3 months ago
@MyRedneckLife Thanks very much. I'm going to risk it still and hope the Black comes out *early* December. If it's within 30 days of today, I'll be able to return the Triumph and get the Black. I just really hope it's within 30 days, because the Optimus Black looks awesome. And great review on the Triumph by the way.

I am currently using the Optimus V, but would like to upgrade to the Triumph. i heard the Triumph does have a few screen issues, also with an "quick settings" app i can use my Optimus as a wi fi hotspot, is this possible with the Triumph?
transformerland 3 months ago
@transformerland The Triumph had some issues with the first run of phones out of the factory - one of those was an issue with the screen flickering when you would put it to sleep or wake it up from the lock screen. The newer revision of the phone doesn't suffer from these issues and you should be safe with a Triumph you buy from the store today.
MyRedneckLife 3 months ago
@transformerland Also on the wireless tethering... I don't believe you can tether using the stock rom at all - even with a third party app like quicksettings. However if you flash a custom ROM like TickerGuy's excellent CyanogenMod 7.1 port you can tether with no problem.
MyRedneckLife 3 months ago

MrMillertime3000 3 months ago
@MrMillertime3000 The Triumph has just over 1 gigabyte of memory for apps and games, which is one of the reasons it costs so much more than the Optimus and Wildfire...
MyRedneckLife 3 months ago
can u please do a video on how to take off the virgin mobile intro and outro because im going to be getting this phone...thankx
shardae0638 3 months ago
which phone is worth getting Motorola triumph or wildfire s???
italianboy21000 3 months ago
@italianboy21000 I have the Wildfire S and overall it's a good phone from Android. Coming stock with 2.3.4 Gingerbread. However one monumental flaw I found was with the internal memory. You only get 150mb of internal memory for apps. I downloaded three apps and I'm pretty much maxed out on memory. I'm not able to transfer apps such as Facebook, Pandora, Words with Friends etc., to my SD card.
MrMillertime3000 3 months ago
@MrMillertime3000 That's about right for the memory on the Wildfire, and the Optimus varieties have about the same. Three apps is a bit unusual though... you should be able to get quite a few more on there. Unless one of those three apps is some huge game or something...
MyRedneckLife 3 months ago
@mahotsuko Your data will NEVER slow down when you're using WiFi, that bypasses the cellular network altogether. As for the 3G data cap it has not been implemented yet and they are saying it won't be until sometime in 2012. When it is the cap will be 5 gigabytes and that would take a loooong time to use up. You would literally have to be watching movies on youtube 24 hours a day to use that much data... or using your phone as a tether for your PC (which is what they are trying to stop).
MyRedneckLife 3 months ago
Ohh so does the difference of 2.2 and 2.3 android really make difference??
mussaobad1 3 months ago
@mussaobad1 Not a huge difference, but there are differences. Battery life is a bit better on 2.3 and there are some feature enhancements and overall speed improvements.
MyRedneckLife 3 months ago
now that the htc wildfire s came out, what u think would be better??
mussaobad1 3 months ago
@mussaobad1 The Triumph by a long shot... the HTC Wildfire S is just another midrange handset that sits right along side the LG Optimus V and Optimus Slider in terms of power and features. The only thing the HTC does different is it has their 'Sense UI' running on top of Android.

@MyRedneckLife what is the racing game called again?
jesus10fichas 3 months ago
@jesus10fichas That would be Asphalt 5 HD from Gameloft. A free version is available in the Android market.
MyRedneckLife 3 months ago
when will it get gingerbread?
INKREDIBLEi 3 months ago
@INKREDIBLEi As for an official update to Gingerbread your guess is as good as mine... possibly never since Virgin Mobile's efforts will be focused on the new Optimus Black when it comes out next month. However there is a very good custom port of CyanogenMod 7.1 (which is Gingerbread based) available in the wild, it's quite good but it requires installing a custom recovery on the phone which might be too hard for some people.,..
MyRedneckLife 3 months ago
does the youtube app work good? Thanks :)
JennasMusic76 3 months ago
@JennasMusic76 It works the same as it does on every other Android handset - but if you've never used one before yes, in my opinion it works quite well both for viewing random videos, searching for videos, or even uploading videos to your own Youtube account. :-)
