Um.....since when were soldiers allowed to take their rifles and ammo off base w/o orders? They are usually stored in the Arms Room. Whoever said that they take them home have no idea what they're talking about, and want to demean somebody..how the ignorance is sufficating!
i feel sad to hear about this, another fallen brother, rest in peace brother, i really dont know who shot first but if it was the police officer i cant blame him, imagine what it feels like seeing a soldier in full combat gear with an assault rifle on his hands.
@sithioth you're an idiot. you don't need clearance to take your gear off base. you keep it in your home or in your barracks room. if you don't know anything about the military, just shutup please.
I think there's more to the story then meets the ear. Interesting that the police quickly closed the case and no investigation was made. I don't think he was mentally ill.

a worker at the grand America said He was asking to get to the top floor. probably trying to get to the roof top.
he wasn't dangerous to civilians he was probably dangerous to authority.
he was due to go back to afgan and he refused and ran to salt lake.
there was an arrest warrant issued because he didn't want to go to afgan.
texted a buddy in ariz asked him to watch the news in salt lake.
