  • Suggestion: Put the engine upside-down instead. Oil pan removed, simply push the pistons out.

  • Would it be easier with the motor split to get those or not? Or are you just pulling the one piston to get the job done.

  • Do you ref to the shop manual for reassembly torque specs, sealant spots, etc? Thanks!

  • Ok, thanks.

    That's very helpful.

Now, can you explain how you reconnect the rod when installing the piston?

How do you hold the conrod up in position while slipping the pin back in?

  • @Plexcom60 stand it on its end so the rod hangs vertical ?

  • How much money do you save a year by doing your own work?

  • Thank you! Thank you for sharing this! You're the man!

Question: Do you have to pull the pistons to split the block?

  • @briansmobile1 the ej yes..the ea no.

  • where did you go to school to learn this?

  • Those stock pistons or forged? What kind of forged?

  • Nice video.

  • did you make the pin puller ???

  • will you be machining or honing the cylinder? or will you just be replacing the piston and rings only??

  • nice job. good video.

  • nice video, from rhmt

  • there are long bolt going across yes they do split in half

  • So theres not a way to somehow split the block in half? How do you go about removing the crankshaft?

  • the block does split in half

  • 5,000 miles? how much did you boost? lol

  • you can get those pliers down at the local harware store.

  • im looking for a job :/

  • I have an 03 subaru legacy and in cold start, the noise makes noise (piston slap) but after it warms up, the noise goes away by 85% , is this a common thing in the 2.5 boxer engine? thanks

  • Yes, it's normal. I have a 99 Subaru Outback Wagon that does the same thing. The noise goes away enough to where I can't hear it inside the car, but if I step outside I can still hear a slight tick, tick, tick, tick sound.

  • dude its probably your valve train.

  • Great vid, to rebuild would you do that in reverse order?

  • Yeah, the red twincharged wagon, aka Reddevil

  • Wait a second, do you live in Oregon by chance? I think ive seen your Legacy at a dyno day at PRE...

  • Awesome vid dude, thanks heaps

  • Technically it could. But it doesnt. One of those things where you just take care and pay attention.

  • just a question, with the wrist pin out and the rod sliding up against the sleeve, does it ever happen that the rod scratches the sleeve wall while you're cranking?

  • mate cool video

  • top class vid on how to? well done and thanks for all the info so I'll feel confident when I strip my unit down. Many, many thanks!!!!

  • fuck dude im so glad that you did a vid like this becuz im going to do my own rebuild. thanks again keep them coming

  • i was wondering about the wrist pins thank man

  • thats cool now i know how to pull a scooby apart

  • and that is why u always have ECU remaps when you upgrade turbos!!!

  • haha awesome video. and i ran into the same problem except i cracked cylander 3 all the way across and shattered both rings as well.

  • "too much boost" how much boost are we talking here, 25-30 PSI? Thanks for posting this, it's really useful for those of us that have that magic touch, that enables us to shatter connecting rods :D

  • Good stuff, thank you.

  • Wow, thanks. That was very informative.
