  • why are there BREASTS besides the video! damn!

  • Why is it, when Chevy, or Chrysler, or anybody but Toyota issues a recall, Toyota people bash on them, yet when Toyota releases a recall *4 years after they KNEW about the issue* Toyota people scream sabotage? Not trying to bash Toyota, I've owned a few my self. But before Toyota fan boys can bash anything else, I'll let you know that I own an 89 Cherokee with out a single issue and a 2001 Dodge Intrepid with 150k and without a single issue.

  • @Boasandpythons Infact my most UNRELIABLE vehicle that I've ever owned was a 2004 Toyota Tacoma. I still loved that truck, but at 30K, the motor decided to take a dump. Probably 100% random, but still a valid point.

  • Why would they not use the DENSO on all of their cars/trucks? I mean, half the electrics in my 88 4runner are DENSO and have yet to fail. And its the same in my moms 01 Sequoia and my dads 06 Accord.

  • what type of sensor does this pedal use?

    voltage differation? positioning coil? ...

  • What do U.S. say in their recent report ?

  • the problem is electronic and now you agree

  • i don,t get it why do they have to make a big deal out of it don,t ,,people remember in 2003 the ford explorer problem

  • well, its only the us manufacture toyota that has the problem. japanese does not have any problems with their late model toyota.

  • Keep your attention away from the people who wrecked the economy.

  • Remember when Kristi Bradosky said in 1986 on 60 minutes that the Audi accelerated and killed her son? Do you remember George Russell Weller when he said he stepped on the brakes of his 92 Buick while killing 10 people on a sidewalk in 2003 - both of these people stated at the time the car accelerated and they tried to stop - both were completely wrong - science showed them to be at fault not the car - so please do your homework ! Science will solve this Toyota mystery, stories won't.

  • Every car has some cases caused by nothing but driver error; I'm sure Toyota is no exception. But that doesn't explain the huge increase in the frequency of these cases starting in '02 (unless Toyota buyers suddenly got stupider). I don't remember of any Audi 5000 incidents in which the brakes were smoking, but Toyota has had plenty. Also, if the EDRs showed nothing but driver error, Toyota would be the first to publicize them.

  • @lrd9999 It is caused by pedal design no doubt. The huge increase in complaints is a well known and well studied occurrence to mass media campaigns where people are encouraged to complain. Audi with smoking brakes - I don't recall that either - but I do recall everyone of them stating there was brake failure of some kind.

  • @carquestions The increase in complaints actually started years before this was a big story. Now that it is, I don't doubt that errant drivers will try to get on the bandwagon, convincing ever themselves that the car did it. The strangest aspect of all this is Toyota's claim that there is only one laptop in the US which can decipher its "black box" logs. Wouldn't Toyota, for reasons beyond this problem, have made it their business to have more of them after 8 years?

  • I agree that's a mistake on their part - GM and Ford made it avaliable through Vetronix and they have shut down lots of SUA court cases

  • When all is said and done, I don't think there will likely be one predominant "root cause" for these incidents. There's always some driver error, Toyota has already admitted 2 mechanical faults, and I'd be surprised if there weren't many ways in which the drive-by-wire system could malfunction. Any time you ship millions of computers, it's expected that some of them will fail in unpredictable ways. My Honda's ECM goes nuts once in a while, I'm glad it doesn't have full control of the throttle.

  • @lrd9999 Your not leaving much room in your theory for other types of mishaps are you? - too much mainstream media can dull the senses. Your computer could have a defect that shuts down the ignition without warning - or cause a hesitation leading to an accident couldn't it? will everyone be afraid of sparkplugs next? BTW - Honda had this exact problem on most of their cars in the 90's. And any mechanic could find it and hold it in his hand. Not like today eh?

  • It actually did shut down the engine without warning once, when I was going 75. When I pulled over and restarted it, it went into "limp" mode. By the time I took it to the dealer, they could find nothing, telling me to keep driving and hope it doesn't recur. It didn't; the later incidents all put the car in limp mode without stalling it. Again, I'm glad the throttle control is mechanical.

  • I think the United States is the disease one holds. Toyota infects an American disease.

  • It is made by a Swedish company by the way you bigots.

  • Toyota retains firm to analyze its drive-by-wire system - DetNews

Toyota said Saturday that it had retained Exponent, a respected engineering consulting firm, to conduct a comprehensive analysis of its vehicles equipped with electronic throttle control

Toyota said it delivered an interim report from Exponent dated Feb. 4 to members of Congress that stated that the firm was unable to induce incidents of unintended acceleration in Toyota and Lexus vehicles that it tested.

  • this video should be deleted...both denso and cts pedals are involved in recall..both camry pedals get a shim and have to be cut...ooops "modified" , new tibia pad and rubber under carpet and the ecm gets a flash also. The other models involved only get shim.

  • Why couldn't they use a potentiometer type accelerator like what Semis and many diesel trucks use, along with ECM firmware that will depower the engine if there is a detected fault in the accelerator. In all my career, I have never heard of a truck accelerating uncontrollably and they've been using drive by wire technology since the late 80's.

  • @truckinjeff it is foolproof and has a fail safe as far as electronic failure goes. There are two position sensors..if the do not correlate the ecm puts car in limp mode (about 1100 rpm) and sets a code. Mechanical failure such as a binding pedal is a different story..that is why the ecm is getting an update to drop revs if brake is applied with gas pedal applied after a certain road speed.

  • Have you heard of Toyota's newest super car>?? Its the 2011 Lexus LFA (Locked Full Accelerator)

    lol

  • Lol.... that's a good one

  • ohohaohaa!!! Thanks!! Hey here's another one... Toyota is coming out with a new model next year, the Kamikaze! Just get in, pick your destination, kiss your ass goodbye and let the computer do the rest! An optional BANZAI horn can be installed for an extra $12,000. (quality doesn't come cheap you know)

  • @paladinhludwig

you are the worst . haha !!!

  • teeehheee!!! I digress, all in good fun of course! Everyone knows Toyota makes awesome vehicles and a little humor gets us through these crazy times! ps, nice homepage you have =)

  • The ones with the metal plates looks cheap, disposable and allows moister and dust in. The plates are too thin to shield magnetism. If you own one of these I'd suggest you cut a thick piece of steel (penny or dime thickness) to cover their mistakes. Use foam double end tapes because you will need the gap.

  • @sadieblooming the ones with the screws are CTS made (USA) the ones with metal plates are Denso...there are other ways to tell also

  • The metal plate is to shield the hall effect sensor from electromagnetic interference. Electronic problem. Magnetic pulse from cell phone or road sensor will cause full throttle effect.

  • Interesting theory. Not sure I buy it because it does not encase the sensor, but interesting.

  • There's plenty of voltage under the of every car - spark plugs come to mind - if what you say was true every car would be running wild. The plate on the back is to keep particles out of the moving mechanism.

  • @X2YeZCAMCNC Not a chance - I used a quarter sized rare earth magnet and it would only work on one side if touching the outside of the sensor. Holding it an inch away had no effect at all. Bottom line - who the hell is going to have a magnet that strong strapped to the side of a pedal sensor for 10 or more seconds and then hide it when an investigator shows up?

  • History will say this is the biggest auto myth ever - there is no doubt in my mind this "sticky pedal" is nothing more than human error. All the Toyotas in question have EDR's - that record if the brakes were on, how fast you were driving and how much you were pushing on the gas pedal - Show me the EDR data from a complainant and you'll find human error 10 times out of 10

  • I understand the wrong pedal argument, and I think it applies in certain of the reported cases, but I have personally confirmed the floor mat interference issue (recall #1) and I have studied the design of the pedal in question in recall #2, and I think that's real, too. Rare, but real.

  • I agree with the floor mats - no question, but every car co has that problem so coupling it to the Toyota pedal problem is unfair

  • I most always put the car in neutral when traffic is congested or where other human lives is at stake. It's human error not to do this.

  • Why hasn't Toyota released any EDR data ? I would think that data (although not all data is 100% perfect) would be very helpful and interesting for the public to see.

  • @smoothntallGWM - They haven't got any from the crashes reported in the media - the Saylor one was too badly burned. Remember that after fatal accidents lawyers will seize the car and Toyota will only get to look at it once a case has been filed and a date has been set for an examination for discovery - it can take years

  • @carquestions i pretty much agree to that i never drive tired angry upset or while distracted and i have never pushed the wrong pedel or crashed my car before

  • @carquestions

Really, ALL TOYOTAS in QUESTION HAVE EDRS . FUNNY. Why would Toyota's own website go against your idiotic claims?

  • @carquestions EDR data is only one component of the total information picture. And keep in mind that EDR's were invented and designed to minimize manufacturer liability. EDR's are given way more weight than merited, almost like DNA "evidence".

  • Nippon Denso pedals are not recalled. Not surprising !

  • They are affected because of stupif american workers. Down USA , you are going down because you are cocky SOB. Despite all this I will not abandon my toyotas.

  • damn, just checked my 09 vibe and I have the bad one......shit! thanks for putting this up.

  • No need to panic. The problem itself is rare. Toyota is saying its OK to keep driving if you don't feel any grittiness, stickiness or binding because it doesn't happen out of the blue. And they just announced the fix this morning. Parts are headed to dealers this week.

  • why is it only Toyotas in the USA are affected while all other cars made here in Asia are unaffected by such recall. I find this amusingly weird.

  • Different pedal supplier, plain and simple. Each design is different, internally, as evidenced by the external differences you can see in the photos.

  • This is false there are cars built all over the world being recalled millions of them do your research.

  • @savygavy5

True different suppliers for USA and here in Asia Pacific. To my knowledged the RAV4s here are from Japan. while the Altis, Innova etc are assembled locally. And to note, they are not being recalled all over the world. Becuase if they are I won't be writing this message. so as of time of writing. We don't experience what you guys are having here in Asia.

  • They are being recalled in europe the middle east and south america as well. 8 million cars world wide

  • @PsychoMp3 this is because the jealous domestic manufacturers in the us are losing sales terribly due to shit quality so they have to sabotage toyota and pay the media to destroy toyotas reputation. The sad part is, people are falling for it, YOU PEOPLE MAKE ME SICK.(not you psychomp3)

  • @fergiman Yeah, Ford was really losing sales. Are you kidding me?

  • Thats called Japanese cruise control.

  • fail!

  • The CTS pedals are the ones in the models affected and the DENSO pedal vehicles aren't affected.
