She's just a wonder of nature! I will never understand how she managed to preserve her instrument and sing in such a superb form until her age! I saw her perform live twice and it was a marvel both vocally and artistically! Brava!
Edita looks so beautiful here (doesn't look like a woman approaching 70)! It didn't take long for me to love her even though I was (quite shamefully) only acquainted with her less than 2 weeks ago. She may not pitch perfectly all the time but the limpid grace of her voice and her soulful singing never fail to enchant and move.
I think Com'e Bello is one of the most beautiful arias. The part at 8.40 is just heart breaking -- the interplay between the soprano and the harp. (The bass/baritone was fabulous!)
Ditto. A true tear-jerker moment indeed. The entire movement and the music motif (announced by the strings) that represents motherly endearment betraying an otherwise hard and manipulative woman could only be the product of Donizetti's genius.
I saw her in Vienna and I was speechless. It was so beautiful. I wish all her fans to see her performance live. She is the most amazing singer I have ever heard. I recorded her "Era desso"; it was perfect. I will try to post it soon.
Gruberova is truly marvelous and deserved a huge ovation, not the tepid applause herein. The staging is preposterous and silly. What nonsense passes for stage directing these days! And what's with the mishmash of dress styles? And the big letters spelling Lucrezia Borgia - afraid the audience would mistake it for Aida?
It is my understanding that this will be released on DVD latter this year. This was a telecast this last week. Those of us who want to buy it will need to be patient.
I first heard Gruberova in 1984 with the release of her "Virtuoso Arias" CD: I haven't heard anything of hers in the last 10 years or so, and I'm amazed that at her age the basic voice is still intact and she still has the high notes. Astonishing. Gorgeous.
Muy bueno, bien elegido!

Do you have the complete duet from the Prologue? I thought that scene was beautifully staged

She looks so pretty here. Why did they change her look so drastically for "Era desso" later in the opera?

Gruberova keeps her colours!
Nothing changed in these years...
My god, who is the blondish stud?
;-)
andreasscholl 2 years ago
That blondish stud is young Slovakian tenor Pavol Bršlík, not Breslik as could be seen on youtube...
