  • Good, now will it play The Prisoner??

  • Man, I remember our first computer was some piece of shit Amstrad thing that loaded from tapes and came with a big book of BASIC programming. I was never a great programmer (and am still not), but this really takes me back to when computers were something really weird and cool and required a lot of know-how to use

  • WHATS THE STORY, MOTHER?

  • fuck u too to the 4 guys under me

  • i like the part where the keyboard comes down and sounds like do do do do do do do do dooo... then sounds like someone is typing

  • bullshit to the guy below me.

  • Apple invented the Matrix!

  • the've really come an incredibly long way in less than 30 years

  • is this really the startup? it looks kinda like a game but if it is then this is what my mom needs to teach her how to use a stinkin iPad!!!!!

  • reminds me of my old laptop...

  • Love the sound of that old mechanical keyboard

  • I'm using another old computer right now: A Mac OS X Version 10.4.11 wich is so old it isnt compatible with the newest version of Firefox and it SUCKS.

  • @SuperCheezyGuy Not really old when you compare it to the iie. But an 'old' Mac is always better than a new PC.

  • They don't build them like they used to

  • This must have been what the cavemen used.

  • Welcome back you beautiful noisy bastard. I remember being in computer lab back in the early 90s and you'd hear a chorus of these things turning on. Sounded like a fuckin NASCAR race.

  • you need to put a news paper or some picture to prove it is really being 15 years. otherwise is not believable.

  • Its amazing, how far technology has come. I'd bet in 20 years from now, people will be posting videos of today's computers up like this. One day will be the day when we will be pointlessly hovering about youtube or some other broadcasting network, and we will see a video like "Apple OS X switched on after 15 years" rather than todays "Apple lle switched on after 15 years." I love to think about what technology will be years from now. This video made me think of that. Good job.

  • my first computer, got it two years after it came out (when I was also two). Thanks for bringing back my great, first computer memories!

  • I wonder waht would happen if you download Battle field 3?

  • @TheTHESHADOW169 something like an error message saying "HOLY HELL I FILE OVER 50KB????"

  • I remember Apple Presents Apple ran on Apple's Pascal operating system. When I was in middle school, I tried (and failed) to make a Pascal boot disk.

  • great I'll Google if there a flash version like this

  • shaddap!!

  • How korny ... we've come along way thanks to Apple ... but, I like it. thanks!

  • Switched on 11 years after the last time it was worth using. Fun in 80-82, crap by 86. Apple's LAST worthwhile computer. Of course there are those who think they are "experts" while simultaneously being apple fanboys who will try to argue for it, but won't change the real truth. It least it was fun to program in assembly code back in the day...

  • Seriously though, i'd rather have THAT mac than a p.c. lol xD

  • @Descipleofchrist101, I have one, it's not really much different than a p.c., so can only image your desire comes from attitude, which comes from apple's marketing. They were all very slow, ram starved machines that couldn't do much. In fact it's processor didn't even have a divide function. I had to write my own just to do a division. that's how lame it was. At least PC's typical cpu's had more instructions. 8088 was the future for PC and now apple today.

  • @Descipleofchrist101 Can you please tell me what's wrong with a pc? Without being an uneducated little bastard?

  • @LettuceGames What the fuck is wrong with you? He didn't even say anything is wrong with a PC. and they're are plenty of things wrong with a PC as well as a mac, now shut the fuck up.

  • Tron

  • Yay i"m the 126,000th viewer

  • @lagowall me too lol

  • wow thats a lot of noises O.O

  • can this run cyrsis?

  • @GOPACKERSJT

Ummm.... DUH! At max settings of course!

Oh, you probably already knew that and are just trollin'. :)

  • @williejenkins666 just joking around, that's all!

  • @GOPACKERSJT I knew that. I'm agreeing with you. It is a no brainer that an Apple IIe can run Crysis at max settings.

  • Wake up, Neo

  • i used to like mac but then i took a arrow to the knee

  • Is that grinding sound the hard drive?

  • @ross817 yes those 5.25 floppy drives were loud bulky things

  • I saved up my earnings from mowing lawns for 2 years to buy an Apple //c. I'm glad I lived through this era... it sure makes you appreciate the technology that we have today!

  • tron...

  • sounds like my garbage disposal

  • I used to sleep through the Apple IIe vocational classes in my elementary school days haha. And everyone was so excited to play Carmen Sandiego! ugh! Glad we have advanced to far more interesting times!

  • but will it blend

  • OMG I grew up using this computer waaay back in elementary school! What a blast to watch this! Thanks for the nostalgia :D

  • @wayner8088 Your forgot thanking for the feeling of getting old.

  • tron....

  • This brings a nostalgic tear to my eye and makes me feel about 100 years old!!!! LOL!

  • Wake up, Neo.

  • Whats that noise

    ...was it clockwork?

  • It is crazy how something like this is barely 20 years old and now we can run things like emails, ordering and do video calls through something that fits into our palm.

Technology is increasing so rapidly, ding, ding.

  • @matdoomn It's nearly 30, actually.

  • Can U play GTA IV on it? ):

  • INSTALL MW3 ON IT!

  • Damn...I'm old.

  • Holy crap, this is genius :D

  • where is the compartment where you put the coal inside? lol

  • Are you planning to sell it for $100? I'm sereous.

  • At least Apple taught you how to type before you used it...now I feel like the only person who knows!

  • lol... touchscreen was invented by apple in 1982 XD

  • well preserved.

  • but, will it blend ?

  • What's the mpg on that dinosaur ???

  • i have one but with both the monochrome monitor and the COLOR monitor.

  • Nostalgia-ing hard

  • oooh, i know those sounds so well. remind me of my childhoood. unfortunately we played so much with it that we wrecked our joystick :(

  • Oregon Trail time!

  • just wait till in the future someone starts up a windows 7 after 15 years

  • BUT... will it blend? :D

  • wow i feel like im hacking into a terminal in fallout 3 XD

  • as if it didnt blow any old capacitors

  • DEAR SANTA

  • When in doubt, 'format c:' and then the return key followed by 'y' to confirm that you are great!

  • @GonzoFrogbottom Too bad they ran exclusively off the 5.25 floppies.

  • However, it was rather sweet.

  • Will it blend?

  • I did a bunch of stuff on Apple 2 computers. My High School had an Apple lab for awhile, till they were finally phased out.

  • I felt nauseous after watching this...

  • Oh my gosh. I remember this. My granny had an Apple IIe with the same intro application. I kept giving that dang rabbit in the app a lot of medical bills!

  • Oh my god its the computer terminal form Fallout 3 and NV!

  • @TheTaurniOne this came before them

  • So cool!

  • Looks like windows 7

  • So many memories......... those sounds bring me back....

  • looks like Apple Skynet...lol

  • 1 mhz ftw!

  • is it //e or LLe? I was born in 1999 so please don't call me a retard for not knowing

  • @SuperHobo1234567 It's an apple 2e (with 2 written in roman numbers)

It was named "Apple 2" because it was the successor of Apple 1

If you want to know its story, you will find the book "iWoz" by Steve Wozniak quite interesting, it is written by the man who actually made both from scratch in a time when there was no such thing as an "home computer".

The closest thing to an "home computer" at that time was the "Programma 101" made by Olivetti.

  • @TheWakkoWarner Thanks!!!

  • apple - designed for idiots

  • At 0:20 you're playing drums.

  • How to use keyboard - tutorial :P

  • My Samsung Corby GT-S3650 is even slower than this.

  • hellz yea lets play some line vs dot

  • Hard disk is snoring, lol

  • my dad had this when he was young.

  • But can it run Crysis?

  • @Edge0fPain mabye but it would make the game look very gay

  • @Edge0fPain Indeed it can

  • @Edge0fPain crysis? that would be like a nuke to that old comp

  • @zeratul575

nah, should get about 60 FPS :)

  • @Edge0fPain probebly could lol

  • 28 years ago this was the height of technology. now we have ipods with more processing power as 5 of these things wired together.

  • @mrrobotto16 Samsung Galaxy SII is more powerful than an entire mainframe made of hundreds of these :D

  • @mrrobotto16 5 of these? Try probably 5 millions of these ;)

  • @mrrobotto16 you do know the apple IIe only had 64mb of ram right?

  • @XWakamanX 16 MHz Prossesor.....

  • @mrrobotto16

    5?!?!? more like 50.

  • @mrrobotto16 yep. only 5. in an ipod.

  • @mrrobotto16 Make that several hundred. These things cpu's were less then 5mhz on an 8 bit structure.

It still does what it could do back then and is still sexy as ever.

  • @mrrobotto16 wasn't the height, there where hp's with touchscreens, and theses apples where just decent computers

  • wow i remember this... my old first computer... Apple ][e

  • This makes me want to go play Fallout.

  • i wanna see it pluged up to the internet lol

  • @SirAthen690 Then go check out Amiga. They still power half the world.

  • Looks better than Windows 8.

  • @WarriorIng64 probably faster too lol

  • DAT MEMORY

  • Do they sell software emulators for this?

  • That is so cool, a testament to Technology past... I wish computers still had that kind of Graphic Interface.

  • I still remember that ctrl-Open Apple-reset was supposed to fix things, like ctrl-alt-del today. Still have mine in the basement and it still works.

  • Is it enough to play Battlefield 3?

  • Reminds me of flynns computer from tron

  • Is it Apple //e or Apple IIe?

  • HE-EL-LO-O. DO-OC-TE-ER. NA-AI-ME. CO-ON-TI-IN-NU-UE-YE-ES TU-UR-DA-AY, TO-O-O-MO-OR-RR-O-OW.

Hello. Doctor. Name, continue, yesterday. Tomorrow?

Hello? Doctor? Name? Continue? Yesterday? Tomorrow?

Hello doctor name continue yesterday tomorrow Hello doctor name continue yesterday tomorrow Hello doctor name continue yesterday tomorrow Hello doctor name continue yesterday tomorrow Hello doctor name continue yesterday tomorrow

    ..

Good morning, Dr. Chandra. This is HAL. I'm ready for my first lesson

  • Doesn't that almost look like the keybaord when Kevin Flynn enters the password to access Tron?

  • It's almost scary

  • It ain't an Apple II boot if you don't have to type PR#6. :)

  • It boots faster that an actual Windows laptop...

  • @andrei9444 Probably because it loads under a megabyte of an operating system. Current Apple products are a disgrace to computing.

  • TETRIS!!

  • nice picture quality to it.

  • look its a touchscreen keyboard

  • WOW, you gotta find an old copy of LOGO. Does anyone remember that?

  • 3df0 go!

  • the computer screen had my first name on it under the line that said "by"

  • It's so beautiful....

  • This is some hardcore freaky Tron shit right here!

  • Yes friends..this was how we used to roll in the 80's.

  • yes, but will it blend?

  • Even back then apple was putting more attention into shiny shiny than productivity. (I call your attention to the entertaining yet pointless Floating Keyboard of Doom and pretty music.) -__-

  • @Altoclarinets I seem to recall that disk was meant to be used in computer dealerships to give customers something to play with if they asked about the machine. Bear in mind these weren't exactly sold in Dixons, you'd call a specialist computer supplier and they'd invite you over for a go on the one (1) demo machine they had. Not sure, though.

  • We hated computers back then, and still do!

  • Holy crap. The advertising disk.

  • listen to that disk drive.

  • can it play crysis ?

  • by the time its done loading you forget what you wanted to do on it

  • Hi! I need to know what is the correct way to switch disks on this computer, and what to do if the disk won't load, and you get an I/O error?

  • @SeberHusky Just don't switch disks while the drive is running. There's no failsafe on it to stop you from doing that but it would wreck the disk.

  • @lakeside251

Oh shit...oh God...I really fucked up this time...

    [cry]

  • @SeberHusky LOL. Of course, if it's a blank disk that was never formatted, it has to be formatted first to be able to boot up. Even if that's not the problem, you should be able to hit CTRL-RESET and get a command prompt and then you can write Applesoft programs and run them (though you won't be able to save).

  • @lakeside251

No, these were not blank disks...they were actual disks with content on them, but they were demo disks.

  • @SeberHusky I dunno, try another disk? It's a great thing if you find the computer and drive does still work. And the more you use it the more likely it will keep working in the future. If it's just a bad drive, prob not to hard to pick up a replacement on eBay.

  • @lakeside251

The drive was working...but then it just randomly quit. I thought that I was doing wrong by turning off and on just to change a disk....and that's why I pulled the disk out to change it..and that's when the problems started. This is the first time I've used one since 1st grade 1998, so I'm re-learning everything...

  • in 85-86, our schools computer lab had about 20 of these, but everyone at home had IBM's and Commodore 64's.

to be honest the Apple II's seemed very old fashioned even back then ... thank god for Macs

  • ITS A DINOSAUR!!!

  • It sounds like you are starting up a chainsaw in the begining.

  • When in doubt press return. If only life were that easy!

  • just hearing the disk drive "reading" sound brought back memories. It was almost like music to my ears! I want to go my parents house and start up my old //e know! Thanks for the memories!

  • 4 8 15 16 23 42

  • Do you have iTunes on that?

  • @orielonline i hate these jokes

  • RIP Steve Jobs

  • @nmeyer89 steve jobs wasnt part of apple at this time he got fired and then later hired

  • one moment please........

  • Reminds me of TRON: Legacy when Sam Flynn first turns on the dusty ENCOM touchscreen desk in Flynn's Arcade.

  • I love the tactile keyboard!

  • It would boot faster with an SSD.

  • Waits for //oh fuck. millenium bug. enter.

  • u r lucky u didn't have the heat in the UK we here in the US..this would have been fried if it had been in an attic in most of the US plus the humidity would have rusted it out

  • amazing sounds at start...

  • LMAO

The beginning start-up noise sounds like the intro to "Money" by Pink Floyd. LMAO

  • UGHH I WONDER HOW PEOPLE BACK THEN SURVIVED WITHOUT FACEBOOK OR TWITTER??? SOMEBODY???

  • @steveramirez15 I survive without both and it's 2011. It isn't hard; Be smart.

  • @steveramirez15 TV. The power of computers started with the LSD children, then moved to the Jolt Cola Kids. After that everyone and their dog had a PC and think they are some sort of elitists. Pretty sad cuz I bet 90% of them can't even use DOS.

  • @steveramirez15 Key parties.
