His mistake is to use old fashioned foam - it dries out the skin and doesn't let you see where you are shaving. I got a small botle called Somersets in Austria - it's like no razor burn and amazing skin feel. has anybody out there tried this - solved all my shaving problems.
this tenique would give me horrendus razor burn, one pass is all my skin can take, then i have to re lather for another pass, anybody else have crazy sensitive skin like this?
i shaved in a total of 3 times and i am 19 years of age. Problem: more beard grows on the right side of my face than the left side. so, after shavin the 2nd time, i applied a lot of aftershave on the left side of my face and applied very little on the right side. after several months , still there is no sign of any change. can any1 give me advice on what i must do to make beards on both side of my face grow uniformly. I WUD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF U CAN HELP ME OUT HERE :-)
I got bored one night so I thought, What the hell, I'll shave my ass. And so I did. I found out that life is different when you have a smooth pair of butt-cheeks bouncing around in your boxer shorts. For days you walk around with a faint grin of satisfaction on your face as you relish in secret the feeling of a thousand tiny buttgasms. But then the stubble breaks out and your grin turns into a suppressed convulsion of agony. You feel like it is a punishment for wickedness.
@Talentz92 Oh my fucking god i almost literally laughed my ass off while reading ur comment!! :DD Must be one of the best comments ive ever read, made my day
Your.Golding the handle at a wrong angle.. also u have too much lather on your face.. lather does.nothing.. just gets in the way of.your razor and your skin!
I was wondering if you could make a video (if you already haven't) that explains the differences between the types of DE safety razors. What I mean specifically, is a video that explains how the closed comb differs from an open comb, how a straight bar is difference from slant bar etc. Also explain the reasons why a person would or should pick such a razor. Thanks!
i did some of these by myself didnt know what they were called thought i invented the perfect technique mates were like why shave like that im like it gets all the little bits !
your videos are gr8 i subbed u with no dought and i really love your DE series, i wanna know something i have just started shaving and i m 19 but i suck at the area below chin,i have also watched your DE beginners video where you said about bullfroging bt i am skinny guy so that didn't worked for me :p hoping that you will reply or it will be great if you will make a video on it.i also wanna ask 1 thing as m new should i start with DE or multiblade?as i have tried both and didn't get any cuts :p
I give up I need your help. After I shave, my skin gets really red around the neck, and sometimes I get cuts too. I use a new blade though. I'm using a gillette fusion. I tried electric shaver and I don't like not having a close shave. I wash my face with hot water, rub some pre shaving loiton, then wash my face again and then put a shaving gel. then I shave my face, then shave it again against the grain. That's when I get skin redness. Help please.
@llanbull A few possible reasons for this. One reason is that you're applying to much pressure using the razor blade. You might have real sensitive skin which would explain the redness, or the shaving gel might be the cause to the redness (something in the gel might be causing your skin to react that way). Try a different shaving cream and shave gently don't apply so much pressure when shaving that's how you get cuts, and you should also get a after shave gel.
@WWH7 I didn't apply pressure. When I try to shave against the grain, it stings a bit. Then after washing my face, that's when I see the cuts and the redness. For some reason, it hurts a bit when I shave against the grain, especially between the nose and the upper lip part. What shaving cream/gel you can recommend? Also I apply a pre shave lotion too that I bought from amazon. I'm really scared that it might cause some black spots on my skin around my neck. I can see alittle bit of already
I have a question for you...or anybody who might have insight. Generally, when I shave my beard, down past my jawline towards my neck, I always get zits immediately afterwards. Not serious acne, but it seems to rash a bit. Is this because I'm shaving the wrong direction, or because I'm being too agressive? Should I tighten the skin more before shaving? Also, I have a redhead complextion (with fair skin) would this worsen or cause this problem?
@pimptastic13 I have the same problem when shavign my neck. I think the skin on my face and neck is more sensitive, so I try to shave with the grain as much as possible. I still get the rash, but it's not as bad, and isn't as irritating to my skin. Hope this helps.
@Juggler1097 I initially had this same problem with my neck. Seemed like no matter my technique I would always cut the heck out of my chin and neck when going against the grain. I finally figured out that it was the blade I was using. Apparently everyone can react different depending on blade. I switched out my Derby blades for some Wilkinson blades and the irritation was greatly reduced. Also, try using an alum block like RazoRock. The alum block really helped lower my irritation.
Just found my dad's old three piece. I think it was wwII issue. It works well for me but my beard is very fine - even at 53. Since I wear a beard most of the year, I don't have to worry about anything but a few straight passes. Thanks for the tips!
my hair points in many directions. its retarded and hard to cut fast. it takes me forever.
I was wondering if they make an electric razor that spins and shaves so to get hairs that point in multiple directions. (I do trim before i shave if needed)
another one you can try is angling the razor to 20-30 degrees from the floor and doing a straight pass. ive discovered it works for really sensitive areas that are prone to getting cut.
My grandfather had an old single blade razor in which razor blade would be slightly bent so you could get the same gillette slide effect but using straight motion rather than this diagonal motion.
@mantic59 Didn't know what it was called so fast google search didn't got any results. Also I'm considering trying out single blade razors or even straight razor when I get back home in few weeks. For now using hair cutting machine for 3-days beard look.
@WrestleCommunity By shaving with the grain first (or just straight down). Try doing this for the first 2 passes, and then shave against the grain (upwards).
@WrestleCommunity I'm not a fan of power razors myself, but I have used the proglide and it is pretty damn good. So yes, it is a good razor. Once you get some experience under your belt, you can buy a safety razor. But I'd hold off for now. They're not getting any cheaper.
@WrestleCommunity There's no REAL difference between the two. It's almost unnoticeable really. The only difference is the vibration from the power. It's so the blades don't touch your skin and whatnot. The power blades wear out fast than the manual for some reason. I don't know why this is.
It's safe to say that manual is your way to go. It's cheaper by $3-$4 too. Check your Sunday paper for coupons in the P&G magazine. Don't buy the aftershave, it's horrible, and it smells like antifreeze.
@alboTBA use a razor with as few blades as possible (like a 2 blade Sensor or a 3 blade Mach3 at the most), use a really good shave cream, just a single pass, no fancy bladework.
@mantic59 i want a clean face even after the shave there some tiny hair left on cheeks and chin which doesnt go even after several stroke.. wht shud i do?
I had little light hair but when i shaved my chin it with philips it grew more not thicker or anything but in more parts on my ace . So, What to do shave with Gillette or what i heard that Gillette will grow hair darker and thicker and yes i read its a myth but thats the same i read about electric razors and it turned to be very true at least to my case. thanks 4 reading ....
Hi Mantic, I have a question as I'm starting with shaving, I'm 17 years old, and my beard line is too high, it's like till my cheekbones, how can i reduce that, because my beard looks a bit 'untamed' . Also, those little hairs have become a little stubblish 'cause i used clippers before on them
@adilhussain77 Be careful with that high beard line. Try to keep it as down as possible, and try not to cut the hair that is ''out'' of the ''normal'' beard line: instead, pinch them out, because if you cut them, the tendency is for the line to get higher and the hair thicker. Then you're gonna turn into a fucking monkey!

@PsychoWingedFish Thx Bro for replying, I;m not pinching them out with a tweezer or something, instead i go to a salon where they use threading to take out the baby-soft-hairs from their roots, my beard line now is perfect, but i have to go atleast 1 times a month to get threaded, it hurts lol, but it's worth it, it gives you the baby butt smoothness :D.
@Jimmypage512 Ur a moron and ur not funny. You are also looking for a thumbs up which your not gonna get. For you to cut a jugular you need to put a lot of force and a decent amount of sawing back and forth.
@jack35496 depends how much money you want to spend. The Merkur heavy duty (HD or 34C) and the Edwin Jagger DE87 and DE89 are popular razors. If you want to save a little money you could try a Weishi razor (but quality control can be a little spotty). Or you could ask your old relatives if any of them have an old Gillette safety razor in their bathroom. :)
@mantic59 hahaha i actually for pure curiosity and wouldent you know my grandpa had a gillette slim twist from 1964 and its been the best shave i ever had with bic blades
@jack35496 I strongly recommend the Merkur HD. I got mine for around $40, which is a little pricey, but completely worth it. My friend has a Weishi and it's ok. It's very similar to the old Gillette Super Speed that your relatives probably have hidden in the medicine cabinet. If you can get a hold of an old Super Speed, do it! My Father gave me his a few years ago and I used it until I got my Merkur.
If your first down motion passes fail then just change the angle a little, if the razor is sharp then you dont need any fancy tricks. Bic razor owners end up doing all the stuff in this vid since its the only way that they can cut the hairs. No need if you have a good razor...
@michael79331 use a straight razor and modified Gillette slide (more across then down) Just slice them right off and you never have to worry about the hair again.
@MTS111 Awesome!! Instead of foreskin it's sore skin. Ouch! The J-Hook ladies and gentlemen. Cercumcition made easy (watch for the purple helmet) lol!
When I saw the 1st technique demonstrated, my toes busted holes in the floor and my fingers gripped off a nice chunk out of my desk... # 1 is some scary crap!
Hi Mantic59, i started using a badger brush and i build my lather now, definitly works much better, no more red bumps etc... also i basicly followed all your steps, i even managed to succeed at blade buffing after my few first beard reduction passes(but not at jay hooking, need more experience i guess :p). I can have a close shave without any cuts/bumps whatever now. So basicly i wanted to say thanks a lot for the tips and the quality of your videos, it made my daily shaves a pleasure now. Thx :)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'm not a professional but i'm pretty sure this is exactly what you shouldn't do when shaving. Sadly, some people will not know that this is a joke video and wll irritate and/or cut the skin on their face when attempting these methods of shaving.
@bobbyorrwasthebest yes, be sure you use little or no pressure on the razor, after shaving rinse thoroughly with warm water (especially the neck!) before adding aftershave. If you notice a bump starting to form try gently brushing it for a few seconds with a dry, soft toothbrush (repeat at bedtime).
@mantic59 oh mantic, I just got my first saftey razer not long ago. And my question is, what do I do when i'm done? Do I dry it? Just leave it on the stand? (I bought a hook with a suction cup that attatches to the mirror) . Do I take out the razor and dry it? What do I do?
And one more question, since there are two sides..do I just use each side 3 times?
@finnsia a quick wipe with a towel and store it as you desire is all you need to do. No need to take the blade out. I flip the razor through the shave so each side is used more-or-less the same; when I feel its not giving me a good shave anymore I get rid of it--I don't really keep track of each side.
@bacurrie01 Try either amazon or the shaving shack for a merkur 34c or 38c or a mhule r41. Would suggest not getting an open comb razor if your starting off.
@bacurrie01 Try the shaving shack or amazon. I'd look at either getting yourself a merkur 34c or 38 c depending on your preference for short or long handles or alternatively a mhule r41. If possible get a closed comb as the open comb (looks like it has little teeth tend to be more agressive) hope this helps
In your opinion mantic59, is there much benefit from pushing the power button on Gillette Fusion Power razors? Gillette promotes the idea that the pulsating blades provide a more comfortable shave. Is that at the expense of a closer shave?
@mantic59 The power feature does nothing for anyone. Gillette was sued recently over this and the court agreed that the power feature does nothing. Cost Gillette 7.5 million.
@kantelier The ironic thing is Gillette Fusion cartridges cost 8 cents to manufacture and Gillette marks the price up 4750%. Also, I don't want to poop on your parade even further, but DE blades are sharper and smoother than cartridge razors. I feel even worse releasing this massive diarrhea storm on your parade but the lube strip is just a marketing scheme that doesn't provide a better shave.
@Talentz92 admit it, you get ghost wipes more often with a shaved butt

hopper727rs 1 year ago
If your first down motion passes fail then just change the angle a little, if the razor is sharp then you dont need any fancy tricks. Bic razor owners end up doing all the stuff in this vid since its the only way that they can cut the hairs. No need if you have a good razor...

@michael79331 use a straight razor and modified Gillette slide (more across then down) Just slice them right off and you never have to worry about the hair again.

Is Cremo cream a good choice to use with a de safety razor?
ceeIoc 1 year ago
@ceeIoc yes Cremo Cream is an excellent product. I've used it with both DE's and cartridge razors.

Cool, use to much foam thou, if you check out videos from some of the barbershop owners on here they say use a brush and not to much foam :)

I had never seen blade buffing used on the face before this. I have used it in the past on my armpits and it works amazingly well for that.
Gairaac 1 year ago
an alternative to these jerky moves would be using a straight razor and get a clean shave right away.

Thx :)

I'm not a professional but i'm pretty sure this is exactly what you shouldn't do when shaving. Sadly, some people will not know that this is a joke video and wll irritate and/or cut the skin on their face when attempting these methods of shaving.
StogeyNightClub 1 year ago
@StogeyNightClub is not a joke video and these techniques do work. But they are meant to be used during the final stages of shaving.

@mantic59 I am new to double edged shaving and I have a few zits to keep getting cut open is there anyway to avoid this
bobbyorrwasthebest 1 year ago 3
@bobbyorrwasthebest yes, be sure you use little or no pressure on the razor, after shaving rinse thoroughly with warm water (especially the neck!) before adding aftershave. If you notice a bump starting to form try gently brushing it for a few seconds with a dry, soft toothbrush (repeat at bedtime).

mantic59 1 year ago
@mantic59 oh mantic, I just got my first saftey razer not long ago. And my question is, what do I do when i'm done? Do I dry it? Just leave it on the stand? (I bought a hook with a suction cup that attatches to the mirror) . Do I take out the razor and dry it? What do I do?
And one more question, since there are two sides..do I just use each side 3 times?
finnsia 1 year ago
@finnsia a quick wipe with a towel and store it as you desire is all you need to do. No need to take the blade out. I flip the razor through the shave so each side is used more-or-less the same; when I feel its not giving me a good shave anymore I get rid of it--I don't really keep track of each side.

@bacurrie01 Try either amazon or the shaving shack for a merkur 34c or 38c or a mhule r41. Would suggest not getting an open comb razor if your starting off.
philbloomer1 1 year ago
@bacurrie01 Try the shaving shack or amazon. I'd look at either getting yourself a merkur 34c or 38 c depending on your preference for short or long handles or alternatively a mhule r41. If possible get a closed comb as the open comb (looks like it has little teeth tend to be more agressive) hope this helps

In your opinion mantic59, is there much benefit from pushing the power button on Gillette Fusion Power razors? Gillette promotes the idea that the pulsating blades provide a more comfortable shave. Is that at the expense of a closer shave?
PurushaDesa 1 year ago
@PurushaDesa the power feature does nothing for me.
mantic59 1 year ago
@mantic59
XD Okay, that was pretty definitive. Thanks.
PurushaDesa 1 year ago
@mantic59 However, I find the power method helps the razor glide better along the face.
talldude123 1 year ago
@mantic59 The power feature does nothing for anyone. Gillette was sued recently over this and the court agreed that the power feature does nothing. Cost Gillette 7.5 million.

I tried to blade buff my nards and now they hurts real bad.
MrDugifresh 1 year ago
i can assure u blades that cost 15 cents dont shave closer and they dont even have a lube strip
kantelier 1 year ago
@kantelier The ironic thing is Gillette Fusion cartridges cost 8 cents to manufacture and Gillette marks the price up 4750%. Also, I don't want to poop on your parade even further, but DE blades are sharper and smoother than cartridge razors. I feel even worse releasing this massive diarrhea storm on your parade but the lube strip is just a marketing scheme that doesn't provide a better shave.
