  • When I made it it turned into hot ice instantly, I had about 100 ml of the stuff

  • Too much water but you already know that

  • still one of the coolest reactions out there

  • use less water, that what I did and it worked like a charm

  • @RockxXxOn

yes, that and i've learned that if you dab your finger justa small amount of the sodium acetate on the tip of your finger, or.. just drop a little bit in the water, it will begin the reaction as well. thanks for the comment/post. :) Cheers

  • you have too much water in the solution

  • what if you leave your finger in there??? :)

  • it can cause burns, its just a chemical reaction, it also feels Very Hot to the touch, so be careful if your experimenting with this stuff. It's not terribly hot, but it will burn you. :) Fun stuff to play with, once you get the mixture/process down.. can make castles, and all sorts of fun looking Stalagmites, or even Stalagtites. . be careful and have fun. Cheers!

  • @thenextgeek can you melt it and re use it?

  • @cgamer077

yes, just reheat it, and strain it through a

coffee filter.. and set it up again. :)

  • @cgamer077 this think tack too long

  • haha yo i was thinking the same thinggg!

  • wow

i wish that i can do it !

  • you can...

    easy to make

  • make another 1 but this time put an ant in it and then touch it.

  • @DMxNemesis ahhahaha that would be funny but cruel

  • @gehtomacgyver who cares about insect cruelty??? lmao

  • lol well depends on what type of ant really

  • its much better to watch it slow

    ;)

  • we have the same floor xD

  • that's actually my dining room table. %)

although the floor isn't that much different.

    Cheers

  • CHEEERS :D

  • LOL

  • nice to watch it slow like this

  • Anhydrous will work, you will just have a harder time find "justthe right" ratio to mix/add with the water you boil.. the reason should be sort of obvious, but in case it's not, ANhydrous is/(means) "WITHOUT Water", and Trihydrate is/(means) "Contains Water".. this is why one will "melt" or "mix" easier than the other.. guess which one? ;)

you can use either, but if you can get the TRIHydrate type, as it will mix much better, and easier to measure/re-create with.

    Thanks for asking!

  • Anhydrous type of sodium acetate wont work?

  • :(

    I need Sodium Acetate , I don't LIve in U.S , but i'll search

  • get the "Trihydrate" type, not the "Anhydrous: kind, either will work, but the latter will take more effort to get it just right.

Yes, just do a search for "Trihydrate for sale", "Trihydrate Shopping", etc.. many/most Professional Photography shops* will sell S.A., but you may pay for it a lot* more through them. . online I found it for something like 8$ a pound.. lasts a long time. Good luck, and thanks for posting!

  • Does Andydrous wont work?

  • read previous post, they both work, one just works "better" because it already contains water molecules to begin with, ie; the TRIHydrate, (with water)

    Cheers,

  • Anhydrous dissolves better

  • Oh my gosh! You're a dementor. lol! That's really cool!

  • can u reuse it like it turns into hot ice then u scrape it off and re boil it?

  • absolutely.. the key thing to remember is that each time you "reuse it", it will lose a little in the process

also, since it is very "sensitive" to "contaminants", i found it best to strain it through a coffee filter, or a cheese cloth (as i think was mentioned above, or elsewhere).. key thing is to just keep it clean, and make sure the "container" used is 100% as possible clean, without any residue, (ie; don't use soap, just really hot water to clean well.)

    Good luck.

    hope this helps.

  • the chemical reaction does make it hot actually, it can burn your fingers, like blistering hot if left on your skin.

When mixed correctly, it usually only gets real warm when it is re-crystalizing,so i would guess that's where the reference "HOT ICE" comes from.. wijipedia might know more though :) But that's been my experience with it so far anyways.

    Cheers,

  • is it hot?why do they call it hot ice?

  • Most Photography (Professional) will have Sodium Acetate as well, online or locally, in various size bottles of the stuff. There seems to be a couple of "types" though, which i didn't know at first, one is "hydrogenated" (type-b?), and the other "non-hydrogenated", or something to that effect.. just makes it easier to mix (read: measure) using the latter (*i think, i would have to check my bottle to be 100% sure), just something to keep in mind :)

  • The web site HotSnapZ com has hand warmers containing sodium acetate. The things work awesome.

  • who knows how to make hot ice without Sodium Acetate?

  • use baking soda and vinegar, i don't have the exact recipe, but it is on youtube many places, or you can google it im sure you would find the step by step.

    Thanks for posting,

    X

  • u get baking soda and vinegar and put little amounts until it is neutralized then put it in a pan and cook for like one minute and then put it in the fridge for about one hour after that you take it out and touch it

  • I used a coffee filter as you suggested,m and it worked much better! Thanks, also was very reusable..

  • You added too much water, which is why its slower/slushy. after its reacted, you could put the white stuff in a coffee filter and just squeeze out that excess/unreacted water then it should re-form much stiffer

  • That's AWESOME! :D btw. first comment :P
