This show was on when Barry & Enright Games such as Break the Bank, The Joker's Wild, The Hollywood Connection, Play the Percentages, Hot Potato, Tic Tac Dough and BULLSEYE were on the air along w/Family Feud w/Richard Dawson and also, Dallas, Knots Landing, Falcon Crest and Scarcrow & Mrs. King were on the air, too.
on the first few episodes of this season of Superfriends, animation was done at Eric Porter Studios in Australia for budget reasons. The studio also did work on several HB Cartoons during the 70's, such as "Chan Clan".
I think this theme was composed by Hoyt Curtin - he is credited as musical director but I know that he did all of the Hanna Barbera background music for cartoons like the Flintstones, Jetsons and so many others.
@BartletRocks Yes, I agree... I caught myself turning up the speakers on my computer to listen to the closing a couple of times. The brass section in this piece ROCKS!
I agree many of the comments left about this theme song. It was powerful and dynamic and just worked all the way through. I like the horn riff too. I've been a Superfriends fan all of my life and agree that the justice league isn't as kid friendly. The initial years of the Superfriends seemed to teach good lessons about character and humanity. Seems like those things just don't exist much anymore. Long live the Superfriends.
The Superfriends on DVD that have come out , that I have are Season 2,(with Wonder Twins), Challenge of the Superfriends, and the last 2 seasons with Firestorm. But "Worlds Greatest and the season with Wendy and Marven have not yet come out.
The Challenage of the Superfriends box said season 1 but it is not season 1. season 1 is with Wendy and Marven.
I've been wondering out of curiosity all these years why they brought this theme back for the 1984-85 season. Not that I find anything wrong with it. I actually liked how they updated it that year.
Yo for real i watched ths growing up and there was nothing better than Superfriends on Saturday with a bowl of damn Frosted Flakes or Fruit Loops! Long live the 1970's!! LOL
I never realized Henry Sharp and Fred Freiberger were writers on this show. Freiberger, at least, later wrote for Starsky and Hutch and Space: 1999, but how did Sharp go from head writer of Wild Wild West to this?
I remember Freiberger producing the last season of Six Million Dollar Man, but I don't remember him producing the Bionic Woman. Before TNT started rerunning first-season episodes of Wild, Wild West, I had thought of Freiberger as "Mr. Last Season" based on his track record so far as I knew it.
If they ever decide to make a "Superfriends" movie, I hope that they use this very powerful, yet dynamic theme. It is yet by far the best ever theme for a cartoon series.
I saw this series as a kid, and it still moves me thirty four years later.
Watching this again after so long ago, makes me yearn to what I feel as a child: to be a superhero. I guess these revived HERO movies and tv series really reaches out to our inner selves, the mythic journey as JOHN Campbell wrote: the HERO COMPLEX, Hero with thousand faces
What use did Marvin, Wendy and Wonderdog serve? I don't recall them really having any powers. Even Aquaman was marginally more useful, but not by much.
A true Classic. One of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons of all time, I loved thi show as a kid. Much more "kid friendly" than Justice League. Thnks for this clip.
this music kicks ass

Love the theramin countermelody! Kudos to Hoyt for using it.

Anybody realise that Ted Knight was the narrator/announcer for several years, if not all of them. I know he was for at least the first 2 or 3.
CDickerson 3 years ago 2
Yeah, Ted Knight was the Narrator for just the '73 to '74 season. The best, imo.
notseriousenough 3 years ago
Who did it after he did?
chocolateman85006 3 years ago
Bill Woodson took over as Narrator after Ted Knight and kept the job 'til '83.

Bill Woodson. He also did the narration for the first few seasons of "The Odd Couple": "On November 13th..."
