It's a Hoity Toity Snob Car with no power or environmental consciousness. Better have a bottomless bank account. This piece of junk sits in the shop and costs $2-5k for repairs. Things go wrong and the dealor cant even fix them! And did I mention the brilliant design? The engine is aluminum. That means it overheats ONCE and destroys the whole thing or domino's it. Sure Land Rover might have been the cream of off roading in past but today an F150 truck can to the same thing.

Land Rover has a reputation for being the best off road vehicle. However this reputation was earned in Africa in the 40's 50's 60's 70's 80's and in America in the 80's to. But as other competitors came into the market they are now longer the best. I was just talking about thier performance. For the people that pay 50-190k+ for the "best" off road SUV. You can get the same or better for less than 20k.

Land Rover WAS the best offroad vehicle. WAT. But it's not up to par with today's offroad SUVs and trucks. They were overtaken by the competition in the late 90's up until today. The car is a logo. Thats what you pay for. The brand name. Nostalgia. Nothing more.

How much money would you like to bet me? Honestly. A disco I (92-98) can get 35mpg here in the UK. The US does not import european spec engines, which are diesel. The 200tdi discovery can get 35mpg on the highway. My 2 discos in america were V8's, and they got more like 17 on the highway. I'm not a fan of the US V8's. Still don't believe me? Google it for the UK- its no joke. The freelander is a girls car- I agree. I helped destroy one during an event- broke the axles.

I've been offroad in both, and owned several expedition vehicles.
Here in Canada, I can tell you that the only places you see a land rover are at the mall and in the shop!
Rovers have always had issues with failing head gaskets, spewing oil all over the place. Not something I would want to deal with on a long trip through the back country here in British Columbia. My jeep was great for bashing about in the woods, but now I drive a Toyota and it's been an amazing truck.
Thats what I dont understand as well. Something goes wrong and the dealer wants to rape you for 1-3k. A blown head gaskets(s) is like 5-6 grand at the deal or. They just bend over everyone. Do you think they would sell more of these if the maintenance costs were the same as a Toyota?
Because I actually enjoy knowing what it takes to make a vehicle go offroad? Because I don't just push a button and turn a knob when I want to hit the trails? I never said they were bad vehicles, it's the majority of the clueless drivers that own them. Put them in a manual control 4X4 and they would just be sitting there like ????
While I will probably never buy an LR3, I would seriously like to see any stock competing vehicle do exactly the same stunt as that LR3 just did. For one thing, most would not have approach, ramp over and departure angles which would allow it. For another, you judges who slam the course would probably be too scared to even drive it. Its a whole lot different when there's no ground visible from the window. Give 'em a break, its a clever course and a clever video.

Don't worry - it's a Land Rover. It'll fall to pieces from rust in a couple of years. That is if the gearbox doesn't pack up first. Why these heaps of junk are popular beats me. Other 4x4s are superior - Pajero for example (which won the Land Rover Trophy so many times they should have renamed it...)
Pajero is great, so is the land criuser and the nissan patrol. I agree with most of that apart from the euphamism comment. Character does not mean that, england built the rolls and bently originally, they look good and are built well. The japs build cars to function but not nesseserally to apeal in looks (apart from a few) I still buy jap stuff now (have a 300ZX which is awsome) There is something about the range rover clasic that is very english looking and it is great to abuse off road and raely breaks... check out my vids.

What the hell does driving over a house showcase? What does driving up a flat metal ramp showcase? The flex part is ok, but it's nothing like the real offroad. Yes! It's better than a Hummer 2 or 3. Against an H1...sorry LR3, but you lose. But what do I know, I'm just a jealous DI driver.

You air are MISTAKEN or a LIAR.
These cars get 10-14 MPG - 15 MPG is a miricle.
There is not a Rover around that gets 35 MPG not even the Freelander (girls car),
