I'm no engineer, and sound is absolutely not my department, but I've worked with more than one musical producer that has used this in a pinch for bouncing sound off of a wall that was sucking up heat, and it always seems to do the job for less than foam costs. If you have even a little forethought, it's easy to do for near free.

@Squallzy13 The egg cartons helps with reducing sound fluctuation, reverb and resonance. It's a great way to keep nice acoustics in a room, and it helps reducing noise for his neighbors. Many studios use various methods for achieving this, although most use specialized constructions. Egg cartons and old flamingo plates works well as a cheap substitution for home use, but yeah... it looks funny. :)

But it works really well, and that's all that matters.
