lord of the flies=the devil ; flies tend to flock to things that are dead and decaying . and since simon feels and sees things to others don't , he feels the devil speak to him through the pig basically telling him , that everyone is born with an innate human evil - savagery, for example - that's taking over the other's .

@ FireFlysNeverDie. The title does not mean what that guy says. The lord of the flys is the pigs head that they put on a stick for the beast. The flys were surrounding it. That was what my teacher told us and we are one chapter away from finishing the book.

I don't think that is the point of the paint. I think it's just supposed to represent "savagery". In the book, Ralph makes a bigger deal about the face paint and compares them to savages a lot more. Ralph represents civilization while Jack represents savagery. That's all the face paint is.

@FireFlysNeverDie Pree much, the lord of the flies, is a theoretical "devil" that lives within each human. In the book, the monster was perceived, and wasnt actual or tangible. Once Simon discovers this, he has a meeting with the "Lord of the Flies" where it is revealed to him that the monster is actually the savagery within us. And when Simon goes to tell the the oother boys, he, ahem, fails, for certain reasons :P

@morganmae2013 Not just the title, the whole symbolism of the book that explains how evil is inside of everyone. The 1963 movie didn´t show the talk between Simon and the Lord of the flies, but at least they showed the pigs head.

@Gaprielll He means when he has like a hallucination because of his epilepsy and speaks to it, about the savagery within us and that the real beast is what Jack's group is becoming. But I guess that would have been too hard to show in the movie :/
