Elton presented this upon the advice of his agent. Reason being, that if Elton released a flop then the BBC would make sure it got airplay on Top of the Pops.
Of all the "Top of the Pops" performances that I've watched here on YouTube, there's been only two that stood out for me: One was The Rattles with "The Witch" (1970)...the other was this one (I can also make a case for Sum 69 with "If The Kids Are United").
This is obviously class stuff and they are great singers. But can you imagine if this had appeared in front of the shallow-minded charlatans who judge reality shows like the X-Factor? They wouldn't have got anywhere! So this proves used to be good AND fun back in the 70s!

Don't know why they got Elton John to host this particular TOTP. His presenting is as wooden as a coffin factory.

Didn't like Darts at all. Elton and Covington were real 70's talents and not some bunch of muppets.

Griff, Rita, Den & Horatio. Great vocalists/front line-up. You'd had to be made of stone not to like them.

First record I ever bought. Loved Darts, and the whole doo-wop scene that was around during this era. Den Hegarty was such a zany character!

The Darts were an amazing vocal group.
This sounds like a live vocal from the guy on lead, at least..
Contrast this with the latest "sensation," from the X-Factor, where singing in unison is a bit of a struggle! :O)
