To all the morons out there. Yes, Dave wrote almost all the solos for Kill'em all. Kirk modified them a bit. Dave didn't write a single solo for Ride the Lightning. He's name in Ride and Ktulu are because he wrote ONE riff for Ride and at least one riff for Ktulu.

yes indeed, 25 people do not like this video. That might be because kirk hammett is not a very good guitarist. Even James Hetfield is better but James decided to do vocals in addition to guitar so he couldn't do the lead parts or the solos. But believe me James could do the solos better.

My favorite gkirk solos are disposable heroes and fade to black. amazing solos. But I find really ridiculous that his solos are harder for me to learn than Marty Friedmans. Its supposed to be the other way around by miles lol. He needs to let of the wah for the next album and regain his chops, most of the solos on DM sucked.

Kirk re-did all of the solos in his style. You can look up demos of some songs from KEA (No Life 'til Leather) and you can clearly hear the difference in the solos. This argument persists even though the facts are out there...

Second, regardless of any tweaking Kirk did to the solos, Mustaine still did the brunt of the work in writing them.

Third, If Kirk had any credibility he would've written entirely new solos instead of riding on the writing of Dave Mustaine.

What do you mean do some research? Dave Mustaine has writing credit for the Ride the Lightning solo.  Even Metallica gave him credit in that regard.

@Roflauncher No. He has the writing credit for Ride because there is ONE riff that dave wrote (the spider riff). You don't get writing credits if you write just the solo. So do some research.

Mustaine has plenty of feeling. That feeling may be angry, but anger is still emotion, and mustaine puts plenty of his frustration into his playing. Kirk on the other hand just puts in strings of notes going up and down the fret board followed by a few screeches of wah-wah, there's really nothing to Kirk's technique. I could easily write a Hammet Solo

Mustaine is well known for his guitar prowess, he might've been sloppy in the early metallica years just as all of them were (don't believe me listen to the drumming on kill em' all and compare it to AJFA. However while Mustaine has gotten better and better, Kirk has, dare I say, gotten worse.

The only song I know of that Mustaine wrote the solo for that Kirk had to learn was The Four Horsemen. The intro lick to that solo is an atonal scale, and if you listen to Megadeth's version of the song known as Mechanixx, you will hear the almost same solo. In conclusion, Dave's and Kirk's style are somewhat similar but there are noticeable differences, and Ride The Lightning is a lot more close to Kirk's style.

So: In Ride The Lightening, during the solo Kirk begins with tapping, which Dave Mustaine almost NEVER does (one example, five magics[awful tapping in my opinion]), and plays nonstop pentatonics (all of the licks he uses in Ride The Lightening are used in virtually every other song on the album) until he reaches the harmony, which is a play on an Aeolian scale. Kirk wrote the solo, although I definitely know that Mustaine wrote the riffs and etc.

Kirk Hammett on the other hand uses almost completely pentatonic licks, but mixes in Harmonic, Melodic, Aeolian, and Dorian scale progressions here and there. As I said before, Dave uses almost only atonal scales mixed with amazingly fast pentatonic licks. Kirk Hammett, on the other hand, writes exclusively pentatonic licks into ALL of his solos.

For all of you haters who say that dave wrote the ride the lightning solo.. I thought so too but i discovered that which proves why kirk wrote it for sure :firstly about dave: Dave Mustaine has more of an atonal scale technique and mixes it with very fast pentatonic licks. Atonal scales are scales that don't rely on you actually hitting the right notes. Kerry King plays with that style as well. It sounds for good shredding, but it has virtually no musical value.
