  • I loved Wideacre, though I was surprised I was allowed to read it when I was 13 and I thought the Favoured Child was even better. Meridon was disappointing

  • I love Sophia Myles! She is amazing.

Thank you for making these. I read the series and I love them! I always felt so bad for Julia in the books because [SPOILER] of what Richard does. She never really achieves happiness... It's quite sad.

  • i loved the favored child. i really felt bad for julia because she really didn't know what to do. i totally hated richard especially at the end.

  • Lovely video. What's the song?

  • That was absolutely brillant! I've been thinking about starting to read this series for a long time and now I think I finally might =]

  • Looking at your videos, I'd say we have about the same reading tastes!

Can you make a video of Meridon?

  • Unfortunately, no. To be honest, I really didn't like that book at all, and I found the main character cold and lifeless. Plus, a nineteenth century circus is not a prevalent theme in your average period drama.

I have something currently in the works... though I can't promise a definitive time since I don't have time to make vids while I'm at school, only once in awhile when I'm home (that's why I haven't really posted in awhile).

  • I agree with you about Meridon. She is such a cynical bitch that I never found myself liking her at any point in the book. Also, I found it unlikely that a double-incest baby such as her wouldn't have some kind of deformity in body/mind. Just saying, she had biology working against her.

  • Wow. Wow. I watched the whole video thinking the James actor was the Richard actor, but then I figured it out at the end...with that cleared up, AMAZING video, really faithful to the book! Do more! Do more!

  • Most of my videos are based on books I've been addicted to, additonally incorporating some of my favorite movies to represent the characters. Along with The Favored Child and Wideacre, I have a slew a videos posted for Libba Bray's A Great and Terrible Beauty trilogy and Anna Godbersen's "The Luxe series." If you are interested in period drama, I strongly encourage you to check them out. The vids are only a humble shadow compared to the books.

  • is it just me, or is it really obvious that julia LIKE LIKES ralph in teh book. cos shes always thinking about him, espesh when he was in jail...

  • OMG THAT'S PERFECT!!! Wow, that's exactly what I imagined Julia to look like, young & old! This is amazing...it's scary how so many parts of the video was so much like what I envisioned.

Julia is my favorite character...that's why reading the book was so hard. After Richard raped her I couldn't pick up the book again for two weeks!

  • she was on doctor who lol same era too i think

  • what's the song name and who's the singer

  • the song is Amaranth by the band Nightwish

  • Thank you. Despite the fact that I've always envisioned Ralph as a Heathcliff-type, I wasn't too fond of the girl I had to use for Beatrice, primarily because she's not a red-head. But Sophia Myles is so pretty, in a soft, gentle sort of way - she looks exactly like I imagined Julia looking.

  • For some reason the whole shack scene shocked me more than ALL of Beatrice's things...yea...I'm like madly in love with Beatrice and Julia..if only a movie could be made...grrr

  • Agreed about the scene; I like Beatrice better than Julia though.

  • Are you going to make a video for Wideacre? Or Meridon? I bet they'd be awesome. Maybe for Beatrice you could use Rachel Hurd-Wood! :)

  • O_O ZOMG!! these are the best books ever! its really good! richard is a total dick in The Favored Child. Wideacre was really good but sad

  • Yeah, I liked them too! And when I saw this movie, I thought Sophia Myles really looked like Julia and Dan Stevens had Richard's seductive/psychotic look...lol. Plus, I thought the mansion looked a lot like Wideacre Hall/the Dormer House (wherever they were living in the second book).

  • Oh it does!!

  • Lovely music video btw!! Its really well put together! :) I hope you dont mind If I download this somewhere and put it on my iPod! its just too good!!!

  • Yes please do!!! This way incase something ever happens to it, you always have it :D.

  • :D!!!

  • I've heard of the book, but I've never read it. I've read two of he Tudor books, but I haven't read the rest. I'm having issues writing my own book, and yet I am on chapter eighteen.

  • whats ur book about?

  • Catherine of Aragon. The first wife of Henry VIII.

  • cool

  • Wow...it seems we read a lot of the same books! ;) Anyways, I loved the video! I could really feel Julia's personality and such. Great work! At first, I found the overall premise of the trilogy a bit disturbing. But, I got over that and ended up enjoying it. Grr...I hate Richard. I like Ralph, though. Kind of... :)

    5/5

  • Cool :D. After I made this video, I was afraid that no one had heard of the book!...lol. Glad to see that its read and enjoyed. My friend had an initial reaction similar to yours - when I told her about the incest she was completely grossed out. But its actually a fantastic story filled with such raw passion and dark desires. It was one of the most disturbing trilogies I've ever read but also one of the most well-written and thought-provoking.

  • i havent read this books...should i read it??? Good video by the way

  • Hmmm... that's a loaded question...lol. Are you a squeamish reader? Philippa wrote this trilogy before the Other Boleyn Girl books and the reviews were mixed. There's definately a lot of controversial content - betrayal, incest and murder - which turns some readers off. I personally enjoyed them because Gregory has a gift for story-telling and her prose is beautiful. I'll write a more detailed summary for you in the video info :).

  • no, im not squeamish. I'll definetely give htem a go..we've both had the same reactions to books before (GATB, the Luxe) so i'll give it a go:)

  • Then I think you're in for a real treat. There's nothing like an engrossing story emphasized by captivating prose. Gregory certainly has gift for drawing the reader in, I must say. I actually enjoyed the Wideacre trilogy more than her Tudor books!
