@antonio610: Well, MP made a career out of single strokes. So,that just sums up what kind of legend he is. Not to mention the technicality of progressive music requires a musiciant to know more than that. W/c means, he went throughout his career w/ only singles and occasional doubles.

As far as MM is concerned, I met him 2008 here in the Philippines. He's an incredible drummer and yes, his skills far outmatches MP.

My point is MP is a one of a kind drummer. MM has a lot of mad skills.

@resska This is not only about Portnoy's skill on drums. He was brain, spirit and soul of this band, not only a drummer. Mangini is a really great, great musician and excelent drummer, but he does'nt have so much passion and energy which Portnoy had and also which Portnoy was giving to DT's music. Try to imagine Metallica without Urlich. There is one million drumers who play better than Urlich, but without his personality Metallica is not Metallica. Same situation is with Portnoy and DT

@Ziou0 I think Mike Mangini is as equally passionate as Mike Portnoy but in a different way. Whereas MP did vocals, publicity, and pretty much everything in the band and for the band, Mike Mangini puts the same amount of effort in there but it is all put into his drumming. I'm not saying either approach is bad. MP is a great drummer, but so is MM.

I was listening to the new album and it sounded like portnoy, but the bassdrum is recorded WAY to hig in volume.... and its to "boooomy" ^^ But yeah, Portnoy is more creative :) You should all remember that Mike Magini is the FASTEST drummer, not nesseceraly the best. But dont get me wrong. They are both world class drummers in theit own ways. ;)
