I think that this couple started to use more the close embrace in the last times not to saturate the public with their usual neo Tango. In Tango, like in every other art form, it is necessary to innovate, otherwise people will lose their intertest in you.
Good exemple that the basic tango rules ain't absolute: several times here, notably for short saccadas in turns, Sebastian shows steps sequences changing weight with its legs open without joining feet and it works! At least it works for leaders (provided you're reeaaaal good and do it on purpose like here); for followers, I'm not sure...
