If you know anything about these vehicles, you should know my explanation in correct. Your answer is about as reliable as the 'new' variable turbos fitted and being replaced daily - but you'd no all about that wouldn't you?? :) :)

@funkyfid looks like we are both right and wrong!I am right about turbos having wastegates and you are right about the noise but it is called a compressor surge!I don't work for a dealer I work for a big company with over 1000 artics mainly scanias,Personally I can't stand the pieces of shit give me a Volvo any day!

There isn't a waste gate on any of these Scania's, the sound you here is from the intercooler having been fully charged by acceleration then the sudden air loss when the throttle is let off, causes an 'asthmatic' draw from the same.

Hence the noise you here, as the throttle is let off between gear changes.

@funkyfid All turbos have a wastegate be it internal or external its quite an important part of a turbocharger!!!!!!and it is the noise you can here please don't try and say I'm wrong i have been a Scania mechanic for over 25yrs!

@johnnoi1 Have you ever driven to Moscow or Kazakstan or Spain or Italy.Some of these places dont have roads.Mountains in Canada you mean hills.Have you ever driven a truck with 730+ hp with an opticruise gearbox & retarder.Unlike American trucks we can go up & down hills at the same speed.You talk about 40+ tons.In Europe we have normal weights weighting in at 60+ tons up & down the hills at the same speed.I ve driven American trucks & frankly they are aggricultural.

@mjintegrale u'r full of shit. Europe is now testing a 60 tonne load limit with a max of 25.25 metre length on some roads. In Canada we haul with extended super-B unit that are 29 metres with a GVW of 63.5 tonnes and the Rockies ain't no hills.

Any old Cummins or Cat with a Bully Dog program will crank out over 700 HP.

I have to admit that maybe u'r air actuated disk brakes might be cool but ask any logger coming down off a mountain logging road of up to 25% grade in some places about a Scania
