  • what a great find. they are still my favorite band.. was so lucky to see them a couple of years ago in Atlanta.. if they tour again.. i go.. anywhere

  • Roland you're amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm always in love TFF

  • I love this song and I hope they get along fine now. :)

  • Isn't this song about Curt Smith? His leaving TFF. This album was recorded after Curt left and Roland went on to finish the project carrying on the TFF name.

  • It's deep stuff. Plain and simple. It's about them but it applies to more than just themselves alone. That's the thing about good art and the talented artists who make it. It can apply to life in so many other ways. In a way, it's like the prism on "dark side of the moon" illustrates. Sorry if their are any anti-pink floyd folks in here, but I find this quality about alot of talented musicians. I count Roland and Curt right up there with alot of them. They should be in the hall of fame.

  • @TheHUMAiNeC0nditi0n wernt they working in orlando?

  • @altops I don't know altops. Tears for Fears came to NC about a year or so ago. I wanted to go so bad but didn't have the money. I hope they come back. I also wonder if they would work with David Guilmore. That would be beyond words. Might even heal the huge canyon of a crack running through my mind.

  • guess this would be how white people do disses at other artists through songs.

  • @TheStfu1000 You mad bro?

  • essa musica e demais

  • Sad song, but I love it.

  • Love this song....it also describes my retarded business partner.

  • Cool song! Too bad he cannot do this live now....

  • My favorite album. Takes me back.

  • Edit: That should say "what was on Roland's mind or what was going on between those two?"

  • I can tell that he's angry with Curt here. :( They both were angry for different reasons. But this song is pretty nasty when I really listen to it. Maybe it's because I don't really know nor do I understand what Roland was going on between these two. :(

  • FOOD FOR KILLER WHALES!! CLASSIC!!

  • fantastisc album

    killer drum section

  • 4 guys doesn't know what is REAL good music.

  • you see i really can relate too this as i have a best friend who I love too bits and when you fall out you think that you want to hurt them and in reality you dont, i have met both Curt and Roland and they are both extraordinary people, really they are! very deep and genuine and I am happy that their emotions have come out in their music as I can really understand were their coming, from very profound but beautiful and there will never be anyone like them, only imitations!!!

  • This is the third best song on the cd, after the title track and BIDA. This is a fantastic TFF cd. RO is an amazing lyricist - the cutting lyrics about CS. 'The only thing you made was that tanned look...' - It's true. Ask people who were around at the time of Everybody wants to rule the world. They know the band and the songs, but not the singers' names. They'll say 'the one with the tan'.

But we're due for more work from the genius. Que te pasa? Roland. Vamos!

  • one of R.O.'s great and suprebb compositions!!! though it may seem directed at CS, still... what you focus on to is the music. Really GREAT!!! (=

  • the lengend tff

  • Genius!! - these guys have artistic intelligence - which is nowhere to be seen in the current artists (notwithstanding the evolution of sound through the decades)...

  • I didn't realize how good these guys were until a few years ago. they seemed so commercial and poppy to me at the time. amazed I was so wrong about them and a little sad they're not touring lately.

  • @bearswilleatme

they have been touring ... hard to find out about because not widely publicized .... saw them last year in vegas and this year in atlanta ... fantastic show! exceeded my expectations ... hope you get a chance to see them ... namaste

  • @bearswilleatme They are touring, last year that had a huge tour and covered US east coast, Manila....all over. They're currently touring the US west coast.

  • hints of the song Fly Like An Eagle. significant?

  • not elemental....MONUMENTAL

  • Man! where are you Rolandboy ! we need you again and again

  • such a great song; great band.

  • OMG!! I love this album!!! Brings back so many memories!!! Woot!!

  • all i got 2 say is Roland Orzabal > Your The Man !

  • Roland greatest strong vocal i ever heard ,besides myself.

  • it is a superb album dont know all this info it marked my adolescence

i happen to be pisces and always felt this song is about me

  • Definitely the best tune on the album!

  • Strong lyrics, great vocals.

  • Zajebista muza

  • Excelente canción! en lo personal este fue el mejor album de tears for fears!!!

  • if Roland can do Curt's voice he can be totally TFF on his own, but nah, nothing beats having your bff around through all the ups and downs.

  • one of my fav songs I think it's about his bff Curt Smith. I'm just glad they got back together.

  • I suppose to be positive, the split brought us this amazing album. Best band of the 80's in my opinion. Timeless.

  • Absolutely under-rated album by Tears For Fears. I suppose it just didn't get the decent musical reviews it deserved as the 'teeny bopper' and 'good looking' one had left (Curt Smith) and the sad pop charts governed by messrs Cowell and Walsh wanted to find the next best thing that had looks.

  • @WalshNo5 Lol dude Roland was always the "good looking one" and all that. How do you think the company kept letting him produce under the band name? They wouldntve let Curt continue as Tears for Fears

  • Fantastic song. 10 stars !!!

  • Why does everyone say every song is about him breaking up with Curt or has sexual undertones. Maybe it is, but I think it is so much more.

  • Sexual undertones?!?!? THis is the first I've heard of it!! :)

  • Sorry wrong song, someone commented on Dog's a best friends dog that is has sexual innuendos.

  • @FuLuShouXi It is obviously directed toward Curt. Curt is the "fish out of water" he sings about. Just read the lyrics and you'll see that. Sure, he touches on other issues -- their friendship, how they were connected by their interest in Janov, and how their relationship as friends and bandmates grew frayed as their fame increased -- but those are all about Curt and Roland's obviously firing a volley across Curt's bow. Curt answered back with Sun King.

  • Maybe your right I just read to much into it. It's about someone who is phony or fake, maybe that is what he thought about Curt.

  • this song is incredible!!! tears 4 fears is sooo good its insaane, maby the most underated band ever

  • It gives me chills when he says "you're dreamin' your life away..." because he makes his voice sound like Curt. It seems Roland was really deeply hurt by what they went through... the hurt turned to anger which came out in some of the songs done afterwards. Love Roland and Curt, thanks for getting back together and I hope we are blessed with many more happy endings.

  • Agreed :) and then he actually breaks out of the song format and says it. :)

  • What a sexy, sensual song. It's got Rolie's trademark solid chord structure, electronica, rich vocals and impassioned guitar work woven together perfectly. Sometimes only a rift , a really bad break up, can bring out such great sounds. I never get tired of listening to this one...

  • Always unfortunate that pain often makes for good music.

  • @andrewattsup I also!

  • I am Brazilian and I love Tears for Fears

  • @andrewattsup yeah but shutup about it like that.

  • poo

  • Tremenda cancion y tremendo disco. Absolutamente subvalorado. ELEMENTAL es un disco perfecto!...nunca olvidare mis viajes al litoral central escuchando este disco!

  • Neptunes kitchen!!! I get the reference now. I feel slow

  • Neptune's Kitchen is the name of Roland's studio, where they recorded this song.

  • I know... that's why I feel slow. I've known the name of his studio for a long time but never made the connection till like yesterday.

  • And there's a whale on the top of the roof. :) Apparently, according to one interview. :P

  • When I first heard this song it made me mad, but it's rather catchy and you almost can't help but like it. You can tell it's an emotional song. Curt says it's his favorite solo TFF song. Curt does have a good sense of humor.

  • I was born in 1988 and there are people who say when ever they hear this song, they think of me...

    Love TFF!

  • i'm really dissapointed... this album was sooo underrated.

Thank you Roland for your beautiful arrangements and voice.

  • This song is beautiful. It isnt a greatest hit, but it definitly sounds like one. One of my favorite TFF songs ever.

  • This whole album is Ro having a go at Curt, listen to the lyrics. Curt is not on this album, this is really Ro's first solo album, albeit with the TFF monicker attached. Raoul is the second and Tomcats the third.

  • It's misleading to say 'the whole album' is a go at Curt.

I'd say only this song was the case.

The rest is far deeper than that.

Two nice people, I reckon. Shame this sort of thing can't be taken back once it's in the public domain.

  • I think there are bits in most of the songs that are having a go at Curt but i agree with what you said about not being able to take it back. They are both nice people i reckon also, nether met them but saw then on the happy ending tour at Manchester.

  • I MAY be wrong but it sounds like Roland is accusing Curt of basking in Rolands talent. "And now your laughing at the sun" The Sun King being Roland. "The only thing you made was that tanned look on your face" How does one get a sun tan? I love them both. I have loved them since The Big Chair. Although their break up was sad many good things came from it. As Roland said "Nothing ever changes unless theres some pain"

  • Curt kinda did bask and was lucky to get together with Roland. We all love them together. But Roland is the man with the talent!!!!

  • I like their songs because they would sing about real life events quite often. I have noticed this with 'Change', 'Memories Fade' and 'Fish Out of Water'. "Power', on the other hand, just confuses the hell out of me.

  • The only song I thought Roland did about the whole Curt thing was 'Laid So Low/Tears Roll Down.' But anyway. :D :D

  • I looove fish out of water. its tied with elemental on my favorite songs.

  • I'm dreaming my life away..

  • you're dreaming you life away

  • I read the lyrics before I'd heard this song and didn't think I'd like it. But in fact, I do like the jazzy arrangement. Thanks for posting, I think I might end up downloading this.

  • The funny thing about this song is I like the musical arrangements but the lyrics are very bitter. I prefer 'Good-night Song' to this (which was again a reference to the split but in a more reflective way). Bizarrely, this happens to be one of Curt Smith's favourite songs of Tears for Fears in which he wasn't involved.

  • It's interesting/ironic? that in this Curt-bashing song, the chorus is sung Curt-style.

  • I absolutely agree with you. That's exactly what I felt when I heard this song for the first time. The vocals during the chorus sound like Curt. It is both interesting and ironic.

  • yeah, when i first heard it I was confused ,i thought it was Curt too. Roland is a little twisted, lol

  • Just a LITTLE twisted? :P

  • I just listened to Curt's "Sun King," which bashes Roland, and it sounds much angrier, both lyrically and soundwise, than "Fish Out of Water."

  • It isn't difficult to tell Roland's voice apart from Curt's. It's much more projected and, well, better than Curts. Listen to 'Power' or 'Fish out of Water' and then listen to 'Advice for the Young at Heart'...

  • I wouldnt say better just different.I couldnt imagine Roland singing Ewtrtw as well as Curt.

  • I agree,Curt has a pleasant voice but Rokand definately is much more powerful.Hes one of the best voices around ~

  • Yes Ajit! =) I read that this is Curt's favorite song from Roland's solos too.

  • Thats great to hear that this is one of Curt's favorite after his departure. Maybe the guys will preform it live next time they go on tour. My favorite TFF song!!

  • F'ing brill, period!

  • pink floyd is the greatest band ever. I love this SONG! Its so SICK!!!!!!

  • this aint floyd.....

  • fastastico tema

  • Great song in a superb album. This is the anti-Curt one. I read that Curt had one entitled "Sun King" and that it was anti-Roland. I don´t know that one so...there goes my request.

  • I have Sun King now, so I'll put it up.

  • Thanks for uploading this vid even thoe

is just the album face but like you I like this song and I've never seen a vid from

it and I was hopeing to find it here.

  • I don't think they made a video of it. This is not one of their 'major' songs.

  • @norrim2000 woooh ? what is this all about ? anti curt , anti roland ?

  • Always reminds of summer this song. I love playing Elemental on a nice day with the roof down! Thanx 4 posting!

  • really, I prefer it for overcast rainy days!!

  • Beautifu song! Thanks for posting it!
