Megaman 9 is just like all the other franchises capcom made big bucks off of and abandoned. Street fighter Post Sf3, Viewtiful Joe, Darkstalkers. Seriously, Megaman 9 was good but capcom were a bunch of douches to give us an 8 bit game that cost 10 dollars to buy. Chill man first off, 10 dollars for 8 - bit graphics seems like a bit of a bitch. Second, Megaman 2 Ran on nearly the same obstacles in almost every sense of megaman 9. Seriously, who complains about the story and robot names in Mega Man games? Both have always been fantastically corny from the outset, that's part of the charm of the series.

Megaman owns I grew up playing them, the only thing I agree with grilledmonkeyfat is that after megaman 3 they weren't quite the same but I still played 4 through the rest, why? as for this current gen though, i'm loving the DS and Wii, you got all of the kick ass sidescrollers hitting the DS, like contra 4, Metal Slug 7, Castlevania, mario bros ect, and with the Wii 09' is going to be amazing! Motion plus, Punch-out!!, sin and punishment 2 and so many other awesome games, the ps3 and 360 just arent even worth my time....although Resident Evil 5 and Street fighter 4 and a few others are going to be amazing

The gods have truly smiled upon us! Why try and make something more perfect than it already is?!? Take Zelda for an example..the first Zelda was awesome, then Nintendo decided to try something new and make it sidescrolling in Zelda 2(not that great). They realized it sucked ass compared to the original formula, so they just improved upon the original style quite a bit..and BAM, Zelda: Link to the Past--Complete Epic win.

Well, some 3-D games can be done well- (Command Mission was well done, IMHO- it got shat on cause it was an RPG that didn't have "Final Fantasy" in the front of it..) X8, Maverick Hunter X, and Mega Man Powered Up where done with 3D rendering and yet, 2D game play. Well done games. I'm all for the 8-bit classic games myself however- Mega Man 9 is perfect for that reason alone. :3

Well, PezXCore, I can agree with MOST of what you say on here. However, I am not exactly a graphics whore in either the terms of pixels or polygons. I enjoy a good video game, period. Yes, some RPGs can be long and have lengthy cutscenes but that is because they tell a story. Also, in a sense, I feel that MM/RM games should tell a story or otherwise it is a pointless exercise in futility. The story may not always make the game but if a game lacks a story, then it almost always sucks.
isanyoneoriginal, classic Mega Man doesn't NEED a story. Every classic MM game had a tiny little story, but that's not why people played the game. They played it for the gameplay, the challenge, and yes...the graphics.
Well, seeing as I AM trying to make a movie based on the first Mega Man game (with elements of Mega Man: Powered Up as well) , I have to digress on the story of MM/RM as not being seen as important in the game. I mean, sure, you could probably see it as window dressing, but as a author, you insult MY contributions to the MM/RM fanbase as a whole, JeffieBoi. A story is integral to any tale, period. The only exceptions to the rule might be Tetris and most puzzle games.
Okay well if you're writing a fanfic or movie or something like that as an author, then of course the story is important. But I wasn't referring to that. I was just referring to the 8-bit style game itself. They don't require a story. However, if you're a writer...then of course you can take what little story an 8-bit game has on it and expand on it. But as far as the video game creators are concerned...a storyline was rarely imporant in 8-bit games.
games like megaman, run and gun action games, for nintendo, didnt necessarily need a lengthy story at all. First off, we are forgetting, that the story in megaman is essentially the same story in Mario, substituting peach for the whole world and wily for bowser. And no one talks about how fucking shitty the mario story is, i mean the motherfucker doesnt even talk. Anyway the deal is, a game doesnt need a story at all in order to rule. Case in point, pac man, galaga, arkanoid, contra, etc.
Actually, Mario DOES have a story and so do all of the games that are around that time. Also, in later games, Mario does indeed talk, beginning with Yoshi's Safari for the SNES/Super Famicom. As for Contra, there was a story with that game as well. Ditto Arkanoid and Galaga. Hell, about nearly every video game has some sort of basic story (Tetris being an exception to the rule) to it, okay, PezXCore? I would go into length on why stories are important to games but that would take too long.

They all have stories, period. Regardless of their length, if the stories suck, then they will not sell games or anything. Oh, and did I mention that movies actually NEED stories in order to work?
The point is that sometimes when a game minimalizes storylines, it can actually hurt the game, PezXCore. Also, ditto for any other media when they also follow that path. Sometimes, the story itself can be truly interactive instead of merely boring and tedious cutscenes. I know that MM9/RM9 is most definitely NOT that kind of game. To say that NO story should be in the game whatsoever and that not having one should matter to the franchise ultimately sells the franchise short and it is wrong.
you dont make any sense. im not saying that mega man should be devoid of story, because it isnt, infact, there are 2 tv shows based on the game. The idea is, the story doesnt have to be so engrossing it overshadows the gameplay. People dont play mega man to dissect the inner workings of wilys consciousness, they play it to shoot shit. Well, I am not one for horror films, SgtStrungOut, as I find them too predictable and formulaic, but aside from that, there have been modern films that have not sucked and some of them have even been made from stories that were shorter than the film version of the movie. Such an example of the latter is The Shawshank Redemption. Also, some more recent classic films are Titanic and Fight Club. As for reading novels, a recent video game as based on one. That is called The Bourne Conspiracy.
All those movies are not completely "modern". They are not THAT old, but I'm talkin about movies havent been good this decade. Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite films also. But video games that are based on movies or novels usually arent exactly amazing (with the exception of Goldeneye)

Capcom have to have a Megaman games for every system because each system need some thing differt. Megaman was made for the NES when they put it on SNES id just wasn't as good. But Megaman X rocked. Capcom knew just what to do to make it rock. Megaman Legends worked the the playstation. Megaman Zero faster verson of X for the more powerful GBA. Then You have Megaman ZX that ment to work for the DS. I can't wait for capcom to come out with the Megaman game for whats out now.
fuck yeah dude! the original mega man games for the nes, X1 and 4 are the best games in the series. MegaMan 7 and 8 suffer from animation that while good, is heavy and damages the gameplay. MegaMan doesnt need a story, fancy hand drawn graphics, and some bs kiddy story.
Just like Sonic, the original games were way better than their current incarnations and thats why Mega Man 9 is gonna fucking own.
to be honest though, mega man 7 sprites are the best to modify, and really clean looking. Im not knocking 7, or 8 here, although many people consider them to be bad or weird, I actually like them both alot. Especially 7, I remember the day it came out, and the cover art was so fucking bad ass. I got that shit so quick.
I like 7 too but it was slower then the NES games and every thing was too big. The look of the bosses was just too over the top nad wasn't in the same style as the other games. I likes 8 much better. I has some of the same issues as 7 but not as bad. If they did another game like that I could live with it.

I've enjoyed the 3D revolution some, but most of it was because it kept the same simple premise of the old 8bit days. KEEP IT FUN! I might be a little off topic but it's kinda funny when people talk about the old Mega Man games, they say the first 3 are the best and 4-6 suck. Just look at the Castlevania series , ever since SoTN, they keep using the same engine over and over again and they made over 4 games and people say that all the games are great. I think that the old school Mega Man games are great. heck, my favorite is Mega Man 6 and I think it's the best Mega Man game IMO.
I don't know, mostly the mega man series sort of fell in a rut after 3 much like most other game series. The Mega Man X series was the answer to that. However, hardcore oldschoolers like me go lost about megaman x5 and so at this point want instead to head down memory lane with a new game that follows the formala of the first games again. Lets face it, it ain't as easy to pick up a mega man game or anything these days, and just play it. The first 6 mega man games were easy to understand.
PezXCore, I agree with you. About Castlevania, they haven't changed there engine since symphony of the night. They might have added a few things here and there but I find those games addicting and fun because just like Mega Man, they perfected it. But I wouldn't be surprised if IGN gave it a bad score saying that the game sucks due to being repetitive or some shit like that.
The reason they changed Rockman to Mega Man in the US was due to the name rockman so Capcom won't get sued. Because back then when Capcom were going to release the first Mega Man game, Sony came out with a walkman called the Rockman walkman or something like that. You couls look it up at wikipedia.

I stopped playing video games during the late 90's because to be honest, the games suck. I rather play a Space Shoot them up, a Action scroller and a fighter game over any RPG or Gun shooter. Anyway. I too have been a big fan Megaman... since I was a toddler. (I was born in 1989, so I can't say I've been playing since the beginning.) I started playing Video games at age 2 and a half and Megaman was the game for me. now that MM9 is coming this fall. My only sorrowful regret is that I don't have any of the systems for it. :(

Chill man first off, 10 dollars for 8 - bit graphics seems like a bit of a bitch. Second, Megaman 2 Ran on nearly the same obstacles in almost every sense of megaman 9. Also, just because something is 8- bit or not doesn't make it a masterpiece. I'll admit one thing megaman 9 is amazing but i was just dissapointed that capcom wen't lazy on it.

Seriously, who complains about the story and robot names in Mega Man games? Both have always been fantastically corny from the outset, that's part of the charm of the series.
I also loved Grilled suggesting that Capcom should stop making Mega Man games because there's "nowhere else to go with the character." Yeah, I demand an elaborate and evolving character study of my platform game heroes, too.

as for this current gen though, i'm loving the DS and Wii, you got all of the kick ass sidescrollers hitting the DS, like contra 4, Metal Slug 7, Castlevania, mario bros ect, and with the Wii 09' is going to be amazing! Motion plus, Punch-out!!, sin and punishment 2 and so many other awesome games, the ps3 and 360 just arent even worth my time....although Resident Evil 5 and Street fighter 4 and a few others are going to be amazing

The gods have truly smiled upon us! Why try and make something more perfect than it already is?!? Take Zelda for an example..the first Zelda was awesome, then Nintendo decided to try something new and make it sidescrolling in Zelda 2(not that great). They realized it sucked ass compared to the original formula, so they just improved upon the original style quite a bit..and BAM, Zelda: Link to the Past--Complete Epic win.

Well, some 3-D games can be done well- (Command Mission was well done, IMHO- it got shat on cause it was an RPG that didn't have "Final Fantasy" in the front of it..) X8, Maverick Hunter X, and Mega Man Powered Up where done with 3D rendering and yet, 2D game play. Well done games. I'm all for the 8-bit classic games myself however- Mega Man 9 is perfect for that reason alone. :3

Well, PezXCore, I can agree with MOST of what you say on here. However, I am not exactly a graphics whore in either the terms of pixels or polygons. I enjoy a good video game, period. Yes, some RPGs can be long and have lengthy cutscenes but that is because they tell a story. Also, in a sense, I feel that MM/RM games should tell a story or otherwise it is a pointless exercise in futility. The story may not always make the game but if a game lacks a story, then it almost always sucks.

Well, seeing as I AM trying to make a movie based on the first Mega Man game (with elements of Mega Man: Powered Up as well) , I have to digress on the story of MM/RM as not being seen as important in the game. I mean, sure, you could probably see it as window dressing, but as a author, you insult MY contributions to the MM/RM fanbase as a whole, JeffieBoi. A story is integral to any tale, period. The only exceptions to the rule might be Tetris and most puzzle games.

Okay well if you're writing a fanfic or movie or something like that as an author, then of course the story is important. But I wasn't referring to that. I was just referring to the 8-bit style game itself. They don't require a story. However, if you're a writer...then of course you can take what little story an 8-bit game has on it and expand on it. But as far as the video game creators are concerned...a storyline was rarely imporant in 8-bit games.

First off, we are forgetting, that the story in megaman is essentially the same story in Mario, substituting peach for the whole world and wily for bowser. Actually, Mario DOES have a story and so do all of the games that are around that time. Also, in later games, Mario does indeed talk, beginning with Yoshi's Safari for the SNES/Super Famicom. As for Contra, there was a story with that game as well. Ditto Arkanoid and Galaga. Hell, about nearly every video game has some sort of basic story (Tetris being an exception to the rule) to it, okay, PezXCore? I would go into length on why stories are important to games but that would take too long.

The point is that sometimes when a game minimalizes storylines, it can actually hurt the game, PezXCore. Also, ditto for any other media when they also follow that path. Sometimes, the story itself can be truly interactive instead of merely boring and tedious cutscenes. I know that MM9/RM9 is most definitely NOT that kind of game. To say that NO story should be in the game whatsoever and that not having one should matter to the franchise ultimately sells the franchise short and it is wrong.

Well, I am not one for horror films, SgtStrungOut, as I find them too predictable and formulaic, but aside from that, there have been modern films that have not sucked and some of them have even been made from stories that were shorter than the film version of the movie. Such an example of the latter is The Shawshank Redemption. Also, some more recent classic films are Titanic and Fight Club. As for reading novels, a recent video game as based on one. That is called The Bourne Conspiracy.

Capcom have to have a Megaman games for every system because each system need some thing differt. Megaman was made for the NES when they put it on SNES id just wasn't as good. But Megaman X rocked. Capcom knew just what to do to make it rock. Megaman Legends worked the the playstation. Megaman Zero faster verson of X for the more powerful GBA. Then You have Megaman ZX that ment to work for the DS. I can't wait for capcom to come out with the Megaman game for whats out now.

fuck yeah dude! the original mega man games for the nes, X1 and 4 are the best games in the series. MegaMan 7 and 8 suffer from animation that while good, is heavy and damages the gameplay. MegaMan doesnt need a story, fancy hand drawn graphics, and some bs kiddy story.

I like 7 too but it was slower then the NES games and every thing was too big. The look of the bosses was just too over the top nad wasn't in the same style as the other games. I likes 8 much better. I has some of the same issues as 7 but not as bad. If they did another game like that I could live with it.

I've been playing 8 bit since 1986 and havnt stopped. megaman by far best series ever, cant wait to get my hands on MM9. GOod video man! Spot on.

man i can remember gettin my hand-me-down nes playin the origanal mega man for the first time n completly blowin my 3 year old mind and starting my total mega man obssesion. but a part of me died wen capcom started whoreing mega man out with the god awful spin offs dont get me wrong some of the x games rocked but wen my friend told me they were making a mega man 9 and it was going back to 8 bit i swear i nearly shat myself in pure joy

It's wonderful to see that people understand what the spirit of video games was meant to be. I've enjoyed the 3D revolution some, but most of it was because it kept the same simple premise of the old 8bit days. KEEP IT FUN! If you feel the need to hurt someone after playing a video game, then it failed you. It's not about the blood and gore, you're right. It's about the FUN! Without fun and innocence,games die. You, my friend, have summed it up. Video Games SHOULD BE FUN!

The first comment you made that makes everything click is what you said about the Wii and it's universal appeal to ANY person who picks up the controller. But before all that and after, your passion for what makes a simple game so great really makes this rant hit home. I agree 100% about Capcom doing this game the way they did for the right reasons; though nothing gets me laughing like "eat a dick". Power to you man; you're level headed and THEN some :D!

I might be a little off topic but it's kinda funny when people talk about the old Mega Man games, they say the first 3 are the best and 4-6 suck. Just look at the Castlevania series , ever since SoTN, they keep using the same engine over and over again and they made over 4 games and people say that all the games are great. I think that the old school Mega Man games are great. heck, my favorite is Mega Man 6 and I think it's the best Mega Man game IMO.

I don't know, mostly the mega man series sort of fell in a rut after 3 much like most other game series. The Mega Man X series was the answer to that. However, hardcore oldschoolers like me go lost about megaman x5 and so at this point want instead to head down memory lane with a new game that follows the formala of the first games again. Lets face it, it ain't as easy to pick up a mega man game or anything these days, and just play it. The first 6 mega man games were easy to understand.

PezXCore, I agree with you. About Castlevania, they haven't changed there engine since symphony of the night. They might have added a few things here and there but I find those games addicting and fun because just like Mega Man, they perfected it. But I wouldn't be surprised if IGN gave it a bad score saying that the game sucks due to being repetitive or some shit like that.

The reason they changed Rockman to Mega Man in the US was due to the name rockman so Capcom won't get sued. Because back then when Capcom were going to release the first Mega Man game, Sony came out with a walkman called the Rockman walkman or something like that. You couls look it up at wikipedia.

I couldn't agree more if I wanted to. Since the Sega cd they have been pushing on the market these lame movie and story based games. I stopped playing video games during the late 90's because to be honest, the games suck. I rather play a Space Shoot them up, a Action scroller and a fighter game over any RPG or Gun shooter. I'm sick of it being about the cgi movie clips. Its not the game stupid, its the shit I have to wait thru to get to the game. Thats all movie bull is.

im only 13 so ofcourse i havent played barely any of them but a long thime ago when i was like 6 i remember my brother playing megaman and it was awesome...but the only megaman game i played was Megaman zero on the DS and it was AWESSSSSOMMMEE!!!! i love the concept of killing the robot and get the power!

i was born en 1988 and I played all megaman games (except that exe and star force shit) and you know what i want more, i want more games of classic series, i want X series, i want more Zero series, i want more ZX series and i want more of Legends series.

agree 100%, i grew up on the lil man as well. i tend to spend more time with his cousin "mario", but megaman on the nes is awesome. infact, the first xbox game i bought, was a megaman collection game. and is to this day the only xbox game i can play for days on end. and i love your rant. reminds me of "slater" from "dazed and confused"*

Anyway. I too have been a big fan Megaman... since I was a toddler. (I was born in 1989, so I can't say I've been playing since the beginning.) I started playing Video games at age 2 and a half and Megaman was the game for me. now that MM9 is coming this fall. My only sorrowful regret is that I don't have any of the systems for it. :(
