I have to say, I somewhat agree to what you are saying.. because I know that when they make the movie that they are going to make it a Predecessor, to the LOTR but The original Hobbit that was written by Tolkien the LOTR was not even in thought, nor was the Hobbit planned to be made as anything but The Hobbit so in all reality it is truly a Book (and should be a movie) all on its own as it was originated! and that is why when u buy the books Hobbit is not included with LOTR but sold separately.
