Great track. Not sure what it has to do with The Beatles Lady Gaga Johnny Cash or any of the other scores of tags you have on it though.Be better if people didn't abuse YT this way.
One awesome hell of a track. Pity Rod's forgotten how to sing it. The original will still be a masterpiece but Gilmour's guitar has gotta go down in history as the best at any cover he's done. Cannot compare Mike Liber's original with Dave Gilmour's they are two wizards of their own style ... kick back and tune in to nothing like it before or since.
Stunning version of one of the best Rod tracks ever.
And check this out: a British female producer recreates the sound of Rod for a new generation. In YouTube, search for'TIMEKODE, ROD STEWART' and listen to
@anteturban Well it's like this.. . Rod recorded this with Python Lee Jackson in around 1973. However this version is much later. The guitar is better but the singing not quite so good. It was the first time I had heard this version but not the song. Sometimes i wonder why people like you bother with sites like this if you have to dissect every post. This is not Encyclopaedia Britannica, just somewhere for people to enjoy experiences together!
Absolutely wonderful piece of music, even Rod still sounds good.BUT, the GREATEST bassist of all time is Jack Bruce and as a 60 year old I believe I've heard many many bass guitarists and Jack, the man who sang 'Sunshine of Your Love', is still the best, Suzi Q was the cutest, though.
JPJ looked good last week with Seasick Steve on Jools' show.
@schwimmwagenman the girl is the Afgan Girl..she featured on the cover of copy of Natinal Geographical magazine a few years back..quite striking pic..the guy who did photo tracked her down years later by the markings in her eyes! google her to see the whole story..amazing pic tho...
is this a typo?, or is this ACTUALLY GILMOUR WITH JOHN PAUL JONES??????
my brain doesnt know wtf to think right now. the greatest bassist of all time playing jams with the greatest leads of all time?? now i've heard everything.
@mjod1952 I have to agree with you, this song has always been a favorite of mine ever since i first heard it back in the 70s. I have just heard this for the first time, and it has given me the chills. Wonderful stuff.

WHY DI D YOU SHOW THIS AFGHAN WOMAN ??? YOU ARE A BASTARTED ENJOY YOUR FUCKEN WINE .. EVERY DAY I HOPE YOU FEEL FINE....WE WHO REMOVE THE DEAD BODIES OF AFGHAN WOMEN BECAUSE THERE DREAMS WERE BROKEN BY THE TALIBAN... BY A BULETT..WE WHO TRIED TO PROTECT THEM AND THEIR CHILDREN AND YET YOU ARE FINE.. DRINKING WINE AND FEELING FINE.. AND YOUR MAKING MONEY ..FROM A PHOTOGRAPH OF A AFGHAN WOMAN
@MrFridaynightclub YOU FUCKER... MY WEAK ASS KILLED MORE IN 1 HR THEN ANY OF YOUR YOUR MOSLIM FRIENDS IN 1 YR......ALL I HAVE TO SAY TO YOU IS 1 SHOT 1 KILL AND WOULD NOT EVEN WINK ...HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU COVERED A FEMALE ,A CHILD UNDER FIRE..SO THEY CAN LIVE...I WOULD DO IT AGAIN..
A young Rod singing with Python Lee Jackson... amazing. A more mature Rod singing with Dave Gilmour and John Paul Jones... amazing. It's like having a Ferrari and an Aston Martin... both amazing yet each totally different . Aren't we lucky.
..love it!!!! Should defo collaborate more often!!! Rock my plimsole should be a good contender!!! The genius of Rod Stewarts voice is still with us after all these yrs & the brilliance of David Gillmore!!!
I much prefer the bass line in the orginal Python Lee Jackson version. More adapted, diverse and interesting. Here it's much more of a 'blues guitar' demonstration.
I disagree about everything except possibly Stewart's voice. It may have been stronger in earlier years, but there's a mature, mellow feel to it that suits this version. It's a little groovier, a little slower. And Gilmour's tone is better I feel, creamy and rich, not as tinny and frantic as Lieber's. This version is sexier.
F'n Rod needs to give up this Crooner trip he's on and get back to hookin up with some R-n-R heroes of the past, and releasing more shit like this!!! Freakin awesome, with JPJ organ riffs.. this is soulful blues personified!!!
The original was great (apart from the bodged-up timing when the vocal starts) this version should have been so much better with such musicians- but the production has let it down. Rods vocal is questionable. Gilmour is just unique.
