Acutaly doing this method involves time and might have some errors when accessing apps... This is the safer and right way to do this...
go to System Preferences, unlock the lock and input ur password. Then create a new account (make it simple) with full administration. Now make use that on Security pane you have the "FileVault" disabled. Once the new account (temporary) log of you current account. Now log in into the temporary account u have just made.
Since this temporary account has full administration right, go again into the System Preferences & into "Accounts". On the right right-click on the account's name you are going to modified. An "Advacnced Options" tab pops and click on it. "Advanced Options" window shows & now change where it says "Account Name" to the new name u want. Change where it says "/Users/oldusername" <--- (this is the old user name u need to change) & rename it to "/Users/newusername" <---(what ever new name u want).
Now after this simple changes it will ask you to reboot... Reboot your computer now. Your new username account will show for you to log in and the old username is gone. Log in. Check on the User folder in Finder or Macintosh HD to see the change of your home folder with ur new username. Go to System Preferences, input ur password to make changes, click on the temporary username u did before and delete it by clicking on the minus (-) below it. Enjoy!
Now open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities). Type the following command, all on one line, and then press Return; when prompted, provide the password of the admin account you’re currently using, and then press Return again:
sudo mv /Users/oldusername /Users/newusername
Note: type in your old user name and ur new user name on the above insertion in terminal!
Doing this will transfer everything from rights to setting from programs and what ever you had before into the new username home folder.
Not doing this Terminal command will leave you with the old user name folder inside the "Users" folder accounts with all the old settings, pictures, documents, etc... still there after reboot. Doing the Terminal command as the final step before you did all the modifications and before rebooting will transfer everything to the new user account + home folder as if nothing happened OK. Its a must!
Sweet! New to the Mac world so i'm still re-learning all the magic stuff that makes things work behind the scenes. Have been looking all over for how to specify the location of the user's home directory - thanks!!!!
You are awesome! It only took a few pauses to your video to have it done. Now I only have one question. Is it possible to erase the "old" home folder? The one with the name that I did not want? I will appreciate if you could let me know. Thanks again.
thanks ALOT.. ive been told its not possible to change your home folder name. but you have proved tht wrong. so again. thank youu. smart lil mac kids make my day!!!
if your really scared it might do something to your mac repeat the process if not then just move the original libary folder into where the copied version should be
It's a good video & it works. I've tried it.... I end up with everything double!! I've deleted all of the folders in original "Home Folder" except Library Folder. I'm not sure if it will affect my MacBook Pro & new Library Folder is liter for approx 100meg...
Can I or should I delete the original Library Folder??? Can anyone confirm with me that nothing bad will happen... Thanx....
why don't you add another letter to your password, i think is too short XD, jaw just kidding, hey thanks 4 the vid (Y)

This switched my setting back to snow leopard from lion and really messed things up.
Revised version....
Follow those steps to the end.
After you've switched folders you can rename the original to anything you want.
Then just reverse those steps and switch back to your original home folder with the new name.
Then completely erase the new folder you made.
Thank me and subscribe! lol
