I respect what you're saying a lot. But what do you make of the violent stuff in the 9th sura of the Koran? And the parts that say to lie in waiting for the infidel? Why pick the peaceful parts and give them more weight over the violent part?

The verses of sura 9 and similar apply to active conflicts and combat and not imply that I sit with a gun waiting for every "infidel" hiding here and there.
However, once war erupts, we would go all the way.
you should conitnue to read the verses on since soon you will read "but if they stop fighitng you, then do not transgress and deliver them to a land of their security".

As I said it is indiviuals who in islamic law have the authority and right to exercise the forgiveness. My dad was in a car accident. A young man had died as a result of the accident. The "Muslim" family did not press charges at all. they forgave my dad since the wtinesses proved that the man had suddenly jumped in front of the car. even at low speed, the collision for the pedestrian was fatal.

The forgiveness is a noble thought but when the transgressions are crimes are heinoius, then the pucnishment has to be severe and deterrant. So all the nazis who did experiments on jew subjects (medical experiments) then should be forgiven and not punished for their crimes. killing one person is as bad as killing a whole nation or a group.

I have lived in Saudia. People literally lock the glass doors to jewlery shops at lunch breaks (which used to be 2 hours till 1985, not sure what it is now). No one dares steal anything.
The aim of punishment should be to "prevent" crime and deter cirminals.

LOL I never went to prayers. my dad never went to prayers. Some people chose to pull down the shutters and stay inside and not go to pray. it was their choice. It does not make sense to me lock someone away to protect society, when my daughter or someone else's daughter was raped and murdered. it is violation of someone's honour and freedom which deserves severe punishment. I wonder lokcing criminals away has really helped bring the crime down. USA has been trying that for about more thatn 250 years now. Saudi Arabia was founded in early 1900s.

For your curiosity, you should read all the verses from THE MESSAGE OF QURAAN. This is written by Muhammad Assad (who was a jew from a long line of rabbis , but converted to islam). It is personal vendatta that makes muslimsthink that they will go to paradise for murdering innocents. that is however not correct. murdering civilians is not permitted at all by Islamic law.
