Im certain I have heard his music befor but I heard 'I Once Was ' recently and its like Im seeing dimentions of his music that I never before realized.That song especially is truely timeless.

Tim Buckley performed at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia in 1968 or 69. I sat on the floor in front, a very small venue. Gypsy Woman was my favorite song. I still miss him.

Tim had about eight albums and someone to write lyrics for him. I love them both by the way. I just thought I'd point out some facts. Well almost facts...mostly what I'm remembering now, inebriated on a Friday night, from the biography of them both both (which I recommend) Dream Brother.

Radiohead's Creep sounds very much influenced by this song, you can just hear a resemblance in the melody and chords. Good to know that they have good taste!

This is an extraordinary song and performance, and it never fails to move me. Tim Buckley was one of the finest singers to have ever lived. His untimely loss is felt even today, and the death of Jeff his son deepened the sense of tragedy surrounding the Buckley name/legacy in popular music. A terrible shame because it draws attention away from the truly marvellous voices Tim and Jeff possessed.

@variatingmule Tim is well known to have the better voice, however, I think it's wrong to compare their voices, as well as their music. Saying that, I much prefer Tim's music. It's a lot darker.
I agree, but Tim did see Jeff again once, when they were both older. I don't know the time frame, and I don't know why it didn't continue, but I think (could be wrong) they were on good terms.
@variatingmule Yeah, Tim was better than Jeff Buckley for sure. TIm Buckley was sort of a polished Bob Dylan in my opinion. He had more of a grace to himself than does Bob Dylan. Jeff Buckley was more into straight-ahead rock music. The only crap I don't like that Tim Buckley did was his white-boy funk phase. Other than that his catalogue is excellent.

This is my favorite Tim Buckley song. I had a huge musical awakening through his son's music. I find that Tim's music has the same affect on me. This song continues to bring me to tears, just as Jeff's work has. Its a shame to lose such great talent and it hurts to know that Tim didn't find huge success with his work.
Our generation needs this music. Kids these days don't know the affect music like this can have for them and I feel blessed to be one of the few to have taken a liking to it.
agreed its kinda annoying as an 18 year old i have to go back as far as these times to find some really beautiful music, theres nothing really out currently on the music scene that quite connects to me as the music of artists like Tim Buckley, Bob Dylan, The Smiths, Neil Young. I've now had to resort to writing my own music in my bitterness of the kind of artisits who make the charts nowdays!

he's great, but jeff will always be the better one for me. not even just musically, but because i can't approve of tim abandoning his wife and child. And I think Jeff was deeply affected by the lack of a father in his life.

I understand your point, but Tim was quite young (18?) when Mary got pregnant, and he had a pretty weird father himself. Of course, it does not excuse the abandon, but it helps explain it. And for my money, even if Jeff may have been the better musician, Tim was a much better vocalist and composer, and he accomplished more in less time, if I dare say...

I don't think the two voices can really be compared.
Tim's tone is so rich and warm, but Jeff has an extraordinary range and uniqueness.
You can't really compare voices so different, and they were gorgeous singers in their own right regardless.

I agree, but Tim did see Jeff again once, when they were both older. I don't know the time frame, and I don't know why it didn't continue, but I think (could be wrong) they were on good terms.

@variatingmule Yeah, Tim was better than Jeff Buckley for sure. TIm Buckley was sort of a polished Bob Dylan in my opinion. He had more of a grace to himself than does Bob Dylan. Jeff Buckley was more into straight-ahead rock music. The only crap I don't like that Tim Buckley did was his white-boy funk phase. Other than that his catalogue is excellent.

i must strongly disagree on that one. IMO, these last several years have been the absolute WORST that music has to offer. these days it's all about who can look the trampiest while singing and dancing to songs they didn't write. I say bring back the days when people had respect for music and realized that music creates them; they do not create music. It's not even *about* music these days. precisely, and that's another reason why you can't compare the oldies with the new - the oldies will always be the pioneers, and great part of fans' adoration comes from that. radiohead, for example, is recicling what pink floyd did in the early 70's, which doesn't take off their credit 'cause they are not pioneers. i don't think you should be mentioning mainstream pop in a discussion like that. ignore spears and simple plan, they're commercial garbage, not art, like beatles or interpol. =]

i'm brazilian, but i've lived in europe for many years and had my share of disgust with rai uno - it's indeed horrible, no offense. it's not any better in brazil neither, though. neither is anywhere, for that matter - everywhere, mainstream will always be commercial trash. it's up to people who like real art to tell apart garbage from actual art. ciao! =]

This is my favorite Tim Buckley song. I had a huge musical awakening through his son's music. I find that Tim's music has the same affect on me. This song continues to bring me to tears, just as Jeff's work has. Its a shame to lose such great talent and it hurts to know that Tim didn't find huge success with his work.
Our generation needs this music. Kids these days don't know the affect music like this can have for them and I feel blessed to be one of the few to have taken a liking to it.

agreed its kinda annoying as an 18 year old i have to go back as far as these times to find some really beautiful music, theres nothing really out currently on the music scene that quite connects to me as the music of artists like Tim Buckley, Bob Dylan, The Smiths, Neil Young. I've now had to resort to writing my own music in my bitterness of the kind of artisits who make the charts nowdays!
