Obviously they got their "advanced knowledge" from either a fallen angel, also known as a "Watcher" or a Nephilim (child of a Watcher). Either way, they saw this entity as a "god" and it was an evil influence on their society. And the really interesting thing about Mayan prophecy is not that the world will end, but that this "god" promised to return. That is what I expect to see in 2012. The return of the Nephilim.
