For one, this vehicle does not appear to be a vw bus. Also it is loaded in the backside with something very heavy (you can see it in the video). This crash "test" was setup to purposely make it look very bad. I'd like to see a real VW bus with a normal load crash (although it would still break my heart).

You are partly correct. It is actually an old VW truck with extended cabin.

AFAIK, the back is indeed loaded with concrete blocks, and at higher speed ... and they did it because ... they were crashtesting the WALL, not the car. Offcourse, noone mentions this when they post the video.

BS this is not a VW T3 but a Chinese LCV copied from VW. The VW T3 passed all crash tests in Germany before to be even considered to be put on the roads. Regardless that this video clip shows a Chinese vehilce of the 80s. you can find the original video as chinese vehicle crash test.

There is a lot of misinformation in the comments. It is indeed a German-built VW T3 (China never built those), but this is NOT an actual standard test. The truck is loaded with several tons of cargo and run at 120 km/h, twice that of standard crash testing. Twice the speed squared times twice the normal weight equals EIGHT times the kinetic energy. This was a "just for the heck of it" event at the opening of a new test facitlity, it was never intended to go public. Thumbs up so people see.

It's my understanding that they were pulled from the American market due to pressure from the big three on the government, citing them as being unsafe for reasons like this video, which as you stated, is awfully misleading. Pack far more weight than a vehicle is designed to carry into it, in ANY vehicle, and you're going to have problems. Also, we used our 83 to launch a 24 foot sea ray. best worst idea!
