I`ve been told that on the PS3 if I select 5.1 in the audio settings then go into sound settings-BD audio output format (optical digital) and select bitstream mix then the PS3 will decode Blu Ray DTS into 5.1 and then I can enjoy DD 5.1 thru my Turtle Beach DSS.Is this true?

@MrMontyBurnsDog DTS is a completely different protocal than Dolby Digital. They are not designed to be cross-compatible and each use a different algorithm to create surround sound. While I can't say with 100% certainty that it will not work, the chances are extremely, extremely slim. You're welcome to try it, but don't expect it to work.

@TurtleBeachVideos I now have a PS3 slim and I can tell you that if you pick Bitstream mix under the video settings,select optical and tick DD 5.1 only under the sound settings then the PS3 slim will remix DTS master audio into DD 5.1 which can then be played thru the Turtle Beach DSS unit/headphones (which is nice) ^.^

@FuzzItself The DSS will work with other analog headsets. It doesn't work with a USB headset. You have to plug the headset into the 3.5mm headphone jack on the DSS. The USB is only used to power the headset.

I think the DSS makes my game lag when i play black ops online, I get wayyy more hitmarkers on people when i have it turned off, when it's turned on, my bullets go through people for the first 3 bullets or so, then it starts hitting them.

@pkgrip The DSS can't possibly make your game lag. It doesn't output any radio frequencies and it only accepts output from your Xbox. It doesn't send data into the console. If you think there's something wrong with your Xbox you should contact Microsoft.

Hey i need some help. I have this head set and its working pretty well. But the one problem that i am having with it is when im playing like COD and im trying to listen to peoples foot steps the headset just kinda makes the foot step into a surrond sound. Is there any way that i can make it so it will provide me a more directional sound to where the player is located, rather then just have it sound like its coming from somewhere where its not actually coming from.

@CPAR15 Make sure the Stereo Expander is turned off when the PX21 is connected to the DSS. Turn the bass boost all the way off on the headset AND the DSS. Otherwise, the headset can only produce the sound that the game sends it. If the directional audio is imprecise, it's because of the sound in the game, not the headset.

I'm also wondering how a simulated 7.1 setup will be for games that has 7.1 audio. The description for this DPX21 sounds promising but I'm still wondering if the stereo headphone is equal if not less to a 7.1 headphone.

2) I don't understand about the 7.1...According to CNET the DSS only has Dolby Pro Logic IIx decoder? So it takes stereo audio and uses Dolby Pro Logic IIx decoder to simulate a 7.1 setup? Since the combo with DSS is a stereo headphone this seems true but I'm not sure since the DSS has a Dolby Digital indicator as well but wanted to make sure what decoder it had besides Dolby Pro Logic IIx.

@alexdeite No, the DSS is designed for a stereo headphone. Dolby Headphone Technology works on stereo headphones. What you hear, all the time, no matter where you are, is really "stereo" as you only have two ears. Dolby Headphone works the way your brain does.

CNET is wrong. The DSS has both PLIIX and Dolby Digital for 7.1.

Hey im having problems setting this up. I already have all the cordes and everything set up correctly. Now im just trying to "Configure XBOX Audio Setting" so i was following what the manual sai, and it told me to go to System Settings and then to Audio, and select Digital Output. The problem im having is it looks the the new dash board does not have an Audio section to chose from under the System Setting. So wear do i go to choose Digital Output.

@tkoizumi It's described in the DSS user guide. You have to set the game console to Dolby 5.1 on the optical output. For PC, turn off CMSS. You should have Dolby Digital Live on the PC in order to hear Dolby Surround Sound.

I am having a problem.

Why does the mic icon/symbol in blackops/modernwarfare still respond/activate when I turn off the mic from the control strap (beneath the headphones).

It is really annoying that I am not talking or anything and the icon stays there and keeps respondiong/enlarging when others talk in the lobby.

Is there no way to remove the icon when the mic is turned off or something?

People are blaming me for rubbish talk in the lobby because my mic icon keeps activating next to my name

I just bought these for my PS3 yesterday, but I can't seem to get the 7.1 effect through my DSS processor. As some people are saying, my "DD" LED isn't lit. I made sure everything is connected properly, so could it be a certain setting on my PS3? I REALLY love the headset, and I'd really hate having to look somewhere other than Turtle Beach for a 7.1 headset.

my DD led is not lit, but my PLIIx is, and I set the audio on my xbox to dolby digital 5.1 and I am not receiving sound.But when I use the 3.5 mm to RCA splitter cable from my x11's they work, but I assume the sound I am getting is just basic stereo. Please help I think there is something wrong with the the DSS box.

@flopr96 It sounds to me like you don't have the XBOX setup properly, or you don't have the optical cable plugged in properly. When Dolby Digital is coming from the XBOX, you should see a bright red light coming out of the optical cable. If that's not lit up, then there's no Dolby Digital sound coming out.

@THEDrSchmith Plug the PX21 USB connector into a USB port for power. Plug the PX21 green 3.5mm connector into the iPod headphone jack. Adjust the game volume on the PX21 amplifier.

@AwakeningTwilight Really, why? The Play and Charge kit causes a bad ground loop in the controller, which results in a buzz whenever you plug a headset into the XBOX. If you want to avoid this, you have to power the headset from something other than the XBOX, like a wall adapter or a laptop.
