  • Is it possible to translate the function and the success of the Grameen Bank to the inner cities of the United States?

  • bangladesh needs you sir. you are a good man. excuse my language, but fuck the bangladeshi government.

  • Muhammad Yunus is a worthy nobel prize winner

a great idea his grameen bank I hope he will help a lot of people

best wishes from Germany to Bangladesch be proud of these amazing person

  • i want him as the prime minister of Bangladesh.

  • @iqrammahmud I do agree with you. We are tired of our politicians, specially those who leads major parties. They are not only inefficient to run a country, they are dishonest / vindictive.I can say simply, they are not patriot. So need leader like Yunus. We are proud of you Yunus.

  • Yunus, go fuck yourself...many people in bangladesh, india and mexico have commited suicide after their couldnt pay their loans...don't give your money to this man..or other micro credit companies..do your research!

  • @Cicikoma

You do realize that those people not repaying their debt just means that they took money from the bank and never returned it? In other words those people are back where they were before using the bank but also consumed using the banks money. In the west there are much harsher punishments than just not being able to get another loan.

  • Hasina's Anger

Dr Yonus's ideas of Gramin revolution germinated during the time of Bangabandhu's 1974 famine. Amarta Sen, the Nobel Prize winner called it the "men -made famine." Awami League fondly calls 1972-75 period as the time of Bangabandhu Mujib''s "Golden Bengal."It is even wrongly written in Bangladesh's history books. This whole range of the on going rivalary has more to do with a battle between fact and fiction or to be sure between Mujib's BKSAL fascism vs. free market economy.

  • People share wealth, and knowledge..! cant take it with you

  • Kudos for bringing this work to more visibility. hooray for those like Mr. Yunus and thanks Global X. This work empowers women and their communities and is a great tool to end poverty in this world. coming soon is a documentary that highlights one of micro-financing's pioneers and success stories:

Mary Aloe Producer to executive produce Obama Documentary about his mother (a micro finance pioneer) with prestigious director Charles Burnett.

  • I saw this man speak today on campus .... this man is the liberator of so many people ... especially women!

  • Peaceful man doing good in our world. How's about we all get a little inspiration from this guy and do some anonymous goods for our fellows today?

    Cheers everyone!

  • @ASeasonedWitch yeah, you could start a social business like the Grameen Creative Lab

  • Sorry to say but this is true, why he has gain novel? Because he makes to Chilla Kaitta Lobon Lagaia Dimu such as road salesman, The Grameen Bank has done good job by money makes from poor people as interest 30% per month.

  • @Mahmud2120 - Yet, who else has given the people funds to lift themselves out of dire straights? At least he's doing something and is bypassing criticism and traditional paths. I am able to donate small amounts to help out people. What have you done?

Small loans are profoundly changing people's lives. The idea is gaining momentum. Yes there are profits involved but there are organizations for whom profit isn't the first goal.

  • Dr. Yunus did an amazing job, look at him. You can see that he loves helping poor people. I have an essay about The Grameen Bank. Lots of positivity. God Bless you Dr. Yunus.

  • @hancash

Very true, he does love helping the people and continues to help them over and over again. He has improved the lives of many people. I give him thanks, Breeze

  • Hello!

You all may be interested to know about a new documentary film world premiering at the Sundance Film Festival this month about Grameen Bank America and Dr. Muhammad Yunus work with microfinancing. To Catch a Dollar: Muhammad Yunus Banks on America is a film directed by Gayle Ferraro which follows women in Queens who are improving their lives through microfinance loans. The film does a good job of explaining the concept of microfinancing and the organizing principles of Grameen Bank.

  • why are the interest rates so high?

  • the information costs and risks are much higher than in the commercial credit lending. Therefore many commercial banks are not working in the area of microcredits. The interest rates capture these costs.

  • Not sure if you've gotten an answer to this yet, but as I understand it it's because of the fees required to administer a loan - a loan takes say, $200 to set up - this fee doesn't change no matter how large or small the loan. $200 is a small percentage of a large loan, but it's a huge percentage of a microloan. Thus the higher interest rates are needed to cover costs. (Keep in mind the average microloan is like, $500)

  • Dr. Yunus may be a true saint.

Got to thinking it's nice that a brown person is taking the lead instead of a white person. I'm a white person and I get tired of seeing the nice white people running around trying to help the brown people.

Don't get me wrong - we all need to help each other out to bring peace and justice to people everywhere!!! But it's refreshing to see a leader from the area taking charge. Peace and love to all.

    I love Dr. Yunus.

  • This is good news. Media are you listening? Why not plaster this across front pages for a month rather than war and hate??? I'd bet the whole world changes OVERNIGHT seeing some GOOD NEWS for a positive change.

  • Muhammeed Yunus will be at the 92nd street Y on April 19.

  • This is a breakthrough!!!

  • Make Professor Yunus the head of the World Bank!

  • No is against the profit you retard purist.

I think people generally is against exploitation and slavery!!!

  • OK, that was necessary! You sound like a really smart guy. Nice exchanging opinions with you

  • Mother fucker! You know nothing about him u moron! He havent made any profit from Grameen Bank. All profit goes to the Grameen Bank Fund. And then from this Fun , Grameen Bank give the load to poors. Prof. Dr. Younis just like an employee now. And he dont even have a good car to use, and a good house to live. Mother fucker, for more information, he dont have any Air Conditioning system even in his Car and home!....so be careful to treat a man like him...Pussy Sucker!!

  • Mehedi Hassan, From your name, I can see that you are a muslim. Tell me one thing, Is Bank Interest allowed in Islam? And this man charges 20% interest, is this good? In Quran, it is written that usurer will burn in hell forever! so don't glorify usurers!

  • @hamidmushtaq they won't burn forever. Only the apostates will burn forever. And stop seeing everything out of your religious eyes. In fact you people do less for the poor and disadvanteged. I'm myself Arab and I know that even the muslim people rather seek for humanitarian aid at christian organisations. And don't doubt my statements I'm working with those people. And at least Dr. Yunus tries to move something. What are you doing for the people around you?

  • @hamidmushtaq And furthermore you should distiguish between political - strategical statements of Quran and spiriutual ones. Nobody will burn in hell forever. Nobody! Maybe only you by creating eternity in your simple mind - eternity, a term you not even know to describe neither you know what it means!

  • bank interest is forbidden for Muslims not for non-muslims. and his bank isnt prejudiced against non-muslims. moreover, its like, taking interest from now well-to-do (yesterday's poor) n passin it on to the next poor. moreover, this is much better than saving wealth by marrying within a family. he is obligated to pay the Grameen bank for providing the loans. lot of Muslim countries r poor, bcoz when there's someone doing good, others cant stand it.

  • Brilliant idea my friend.

  • @KDANTEATER

Yes, he could really do good here in America, what do you think? We need some help! Thanks, Breeze

  • @KDANTEATER

lol to be the head of world bank you need to be American. To be the head of IMF you need to be European.

These institutions are racist and ruled by dictators. Just like UN is ruled by 5 countries alone.

  • @Deyabil Too true.

  • Professor Yununs did something amazing for the poverty people. ... so sincere and passionate.

  • lending money to the poor with 20% interest is amazing!!! ya right!

  • He's an amazing individual

  • We have so much to learn
