Yup, I experienced that as well, but with Ukrainian products. I am fond of carrot juice and it comes in those big glass jars that have exactly the same packaging. What I found works the best is that you take a bottle opener and just lift the edges like you would with beer bottle and then try to open it. It always works. I think it has smith to do with the way it was designed because it's a pretty common problem.
@FotoKadr Unfortunately I did not have a bottle opener to hand as I don't drink beer so I don't really need one. I tried a knife under the cap without success.
Have you tried tapping (not too hard) the angled edges of the lid in quarters using a butter knife handle (or an equivalent), leaving slight dents. This should compromise the vacuum seal a bit and thus ease the opening of the lid. Hope this helps next time :)
I had a similar problem with a bottle of medicine that had one of those child-proof caps. Nothing I tried would shift or open the cap. At least I had the luxury of being able to take it back to the pharmacy to replace it where ironically 5 out of the 6 remaining bottles they had could also not be opened!!
@10CPhil Having said that a retailer - and particularly a chemist - is no longer able to sell a product once the closure has been tampered with. They need to be returned to the manufacturer.
did u try to put a knife between the metal cover and the glass part and move a little bit? in our country a lot are like that. once a little bit of air goes inside it is very easy. i never had one that i couldn t open and we have so many. i am just curios if u tryed this way
@duessel135 Yes I did try that too. Normally once the vacuum is broken then the lid can be removed. Once I was unable to do that I punctured the lid but that did not work either.
With this type of jar I normally use a screwdriver, placing the blade between glass and lid, and then I twist the driver slightly till I hear a pop.

@TrueCourse Thank you! I tried that too! Normally I try hitting the top first though! Even after breaking it open I still could not remove the lid!
