  • HUUURRR SOOO DEEEP THE BIRD SYMOLIZES FREEDOM DURRRRRRRRRR

THIS GAME FUCKING SUCKS AND SO DOES THE GRAPHICS YOU FUCKING FAGS

  • Just think about this: If they would have just cut to black and let the credits roll Terranigma would still have been an amazing game. Yet, they did this moving scene with the gull, animated the futuristic plane, the train etc. which is never used except there. For me this is just one more aspect which shows how dedicated the developers where and how much heart they put into it. Without a doubt the best SNES game I ever played.

  • Can someone tell me what is wrong in 4:18?

The Airplane is completely glichted, I had the same problem playing the original Cartridge on my SNES, so its not bad emulation.

  • It took me seven days to finish this game back in 1996 (27.12.1996, why the fuck do I still remember the date? :D )

  • I thought, ark is who knock the door...

  • I think 5:00 to 5:45 is the best part... makes me feel I don't need anything at all to live an enjoyable life. Except for those memories I have that makes me happy.

What a lone wolf I am.

  • Such an undervalued game. It deserved much more fame than it got... Good old times.. One of my favorite games if not my most favorite game...

  • We need a Terranigma movie! Plus Terranigma deserves a second chance.

  • Truly a bittersweet ending, I remember I played this in an Zsnes emulator back in 1999, was one of my action rpg games next to Chrono Trigger.

Since this game is based on reincarnation I always believed that Ark would returned back to Elle in earth (hence his theme song playing after Elle opens the door, but would it be human Ark or a Seagull?).

  • @hanchiman In all honesty, I think it was human even though Ark "becomes" a seagull, since Elle just sits there for a moment before running off screen (shock?). And the theme kinda adds to that.

  • @speciman23

It could also be "baby Ark" in the door just like in the beginning of Chapter 4 when Elle said that she found baby Ark crying in her front steps. But anyways it is Ark nonetheless. Personally I would prefer it was the "normal human Ark" that come back to her.

  • @hanchiman

But then who's knocking? *stubborn denial mode* It's a normal Ark despite any statements or proof that may appear. :)

  • @speciman23

You know what, I think its actually none other than Bloody Mary that was knocking! :D

  • Ark never died, and never sleep forever, because he is dreaming, he is living his dream, and dream is live, and the dreams, dreams are.

  • games back in the 90's had so much more then games of today they just had something unable to describe the feeling you get form finishing it after so many hours spent into they are just so amazing i miss those days of gaming.

  • @MountainWolf100

Me too. The games were epic! Remember the original Final Fantasy games? When I finished this game, I almost cried b/c the ending was so tragic. Final Fantasy 10 did the same ending type, yet different story line. I miss gaming from the old days & refuse to buy anything beyond a PS2

  • 8:28 i´m crying

  • The games in the past were the best ones. Today games are produced only for profits -.- Now i`m going to play Terranigma again. Have fun

  • The first game I've ever played was Secret of Mana. Another game with a pretty sad ending. But this one just had me close to tears. A bit unforgiving with the characters (notice in games and manga they don't just kill off characters in fact they find a way to preserve all major characters and find minor ones to kill). I also nearly cried with the Chrono Trigger epoch ending; it wasn't a sad ending but the music and mode really caught me. This one has BOTH a sad ending and music.

    :' (

  • Best game ever.

  • Wait, who was at the door?

  • We freaks should all meat up... have a talk a few drinks, wheep and celebrate the good ol times!.... come to Germany Freiburg! ;)

I'm serious!! I'll take care of you guys!!!!

    :'-)

  • this was one of the sadest enings of a game - ever... made me cry then - makes me cry now...

  • after watching the two parts of the ending of this game a good 15 years after playing it, I now realise that it was always intended as a happy ending that didn't cheapen the story. If you think about it, Ark always had to have a raw deal before any happy ending could develop, and I think it did - he had to have been a human to knock on the door - plus the music was happy right at the end - and elle gives the clue earlier - fate will bring them together again :)

  • Because of this ending, every time I see a seagull, I can't help but smile and look at it with respect and admiration. It's silly I know, but this ending really got to me (still does). =,(

The guys who made this where brilliant. Too bad Quintet died, they could have done so much more. Don't think we will see anything like Terranigma ever again, but at least I now know games can convey a deep, meaningful story and atmosphere.

Damn it, Nintendo! I'll kill you If you don't release it on the VC!

  • @biomelk Quintet made such masterpieces in terms of beauty for the story and setting of their games. Act Raiser, Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia as well are truly beautiful stories

  • @biomelk It's so crazy how many people had the same emotional reaction to this game. I was depressed for at least a week after completing it. Really felt something that I never have from any book, other video game, or movie.

  • I cried like a baby again watching this. 3:53 kills me everytime, I already lost the count of how many times that part of the song has made me cry.

This game has a soul and it makes you think about many things. Finishing this game is like finishing a very good and touching book. It changes the way you see life in its many forms... and that's why I think this game is different from the rest. 100 years could pass and I'll still remember this ending. I know it.

  • an absolutely amazing ending!

  • Terranigma was just an epic game. And the ending ist one of the best - if not THE best i've seen in more than 20 years of video-gaming. I also wish there would be a sequel or a another game based on the terranigma-world. But then i'm also afraid it would be terrible and spoil terranigma itself. Who knows?

Nevertheless, superb ending an good video-job. I think i just might put on the Emulator on my PC an give terranigma another go :)

  • @shiusinkan arent soul blazer and illusion of gaia part of a trilogy with terranigma? illusion of gia is really awesome also

  • To me, terranigma has the most touching ending I can imagine any out of any game. If you think about the pain of having no place to return to, and the fear, that you no longer have any value of existence is extremely upsetting. Nevertheless, if a person such as Ark existed, I would say this about him, "I am damn proud of him".

I also wish this game had some kind of sequel, but then again, most game sequels usually ruin the original's reputation. I have mixed feelings about it.

  • It's a wierd and somewhat morbid ending I think, unlike all games I've played. One thing i like about this perspective, this game shows that theres no god and devil but that god would be both good and evil. I'm not religious myself but found it very remarkable.

  • @3:52 BEST PART OF THIS SONG EVA!!! *cries*

  • ITs one f the best endings! it makes you cry and having a good ending :')

  • After seeing this, i've to thank my unkle that he buyed this game for me to christmas as I was a child. Without him i wouldn't have played one of the most epic rpg's...

To this ending: After I've seen the ending I got meditative... I wasn't able to sleep, because i was thinking... What happened to Ark? Who knocked at the door?

No other RPG's have left this deep marks in my gaming history.

Everyone who didn't played should do it.

  • The most underrated RPG masterpiece from the SNES...

    They should remake this.

  • @Ganmapache

Most RPGs from back then are underrated. Hell, the Mother series didn't get much notice until Smash Bros. came out and now there's alot of people trying to get it. Most RPGs will get ignored unless someone is either looking for it or it is tied to a bigger franchise. Admittingly, I haven't played this one yet, but I know I would have loved it. Illusion of Gaia was a blast and Terranigma looks like a step up from it, after watching playthroughs from othe people.

  • where will man go next

  • One of the most powerful endings I have ever seen. I haven't completed the game in a long time but going back to this makes me realize just how much I hate the direction video games have taken lately...

  • A pretty bleak ending for Ark, but look at it this way. By this point in the game he's the most powerful being in existence with many lifetimes of experience besides the Gaias, and basically willed himself back to life on the surface world

  • @mcgibs

It wasn't just his will but the will of the world and those living on it that he helped bring to life that brought Ark back from the brink of death. This game is a bit odd though if you look at it in a religious view though. It kind of goes off of heavens and the earth, light and dark. Yet at the same time it goes off of the belief of resurrection in the life cycle.

Bit of a strange view really, but I agree that it's a wonderful ending for a game

  • this game was the bets, i never has been so emphatic about a videogame character like this one, and after finishing the game... you thought you saved him, but he disapears, that makes you down.

Today after a long time i dont play it anyomore, just seeing this video, makes my sad.

    Great history

  • aaa que melancolia me trae este juego me da mucha ansiedad :< best game ever sad ending but that make it so special

  • sad ending, i realy love this game. This and street fighter are the reason why i kept my snes.

  • I felt so empty after this ending, that I remember leaving it on for 20 minutes straight, hoping something more happened.

  • @ManhwaFan What? this ending is nonesense.

he dies because of nothing. Yeah, great ending. Wow -.-

  • @Rockstargames6 he died cause he killed dark gaia, his creater and the force supporting his existence, for the sake of the world. if you didn't like the game then you didn't, no need to bash his death and sound ignorant doing it.

  • @StayinOnePiece I liked the game very much. But I lost it (yeah, really) before I had to fight against Gaia.

  • @Rockstargames6 I guess you wouldn't have known about the hero finding out he was actually working for a villian and that his was just a shadow copy of the real hero, and that his whole life was all one big lie. Everything he grew up with and everyone from his village were all illusions. And to top that off his childhood friend/girlfriend tries to kill him when he gets turned into a baby, and then dies to save him from yami the companion that traveled with him for the whole game. he got scammed

  • @StayinOnePiece Oh thank you for your kind comment/explanation. It is much appreciated. Have a great weekend!

  • i just pass this game..... really cool

  • This song was the greatest song of this beautiful game... TERRANIGMA FOREVER!

  • Guess if I need to cry, I'll watch some Terranigma vids again. Magic.

For me hardest time was when they told the story of the two goats in the ice cave. Oh, the sadness.

I feel lucky that I could experience this as a kid so it will always be a part of me.

  • What ?!!.. is she died ? as she goes out ?

  • I just hate how he is left out there to die when he re-created the goddamn world and killed darkness. Unfair from the Gaias. I'd rather have created a feeling-less robot to do the world regeneration :o

  • mmm... like everyone else here, the ending was sad for me too :(

The saddest moment of the game for me, though, was if you help Africa achieve their highest level civilization, all your old animal buddies there are put in cages and basically imprisoned for entertainment. Not being able to do anything about their capture was really disheartening...

  • A very sad but beautiful ending....love this game

  • I have some doubts about Fyda's identity.

Because have a child in crysta that says "I have a dream. Everyone has become ice statues" and that really happen

And after you free the village you return and she says "I have another dream, I dreamed I meet you in a place that I never been before"

When I first meet Fyda the last thing that she says is "We don't meet somewhere before? Oh, nevermind..."

After you defeat dark gaia and return to the village the child is not there.

  • that cannot be, cous:

After the world destroyt Dark gaia create the people in Crysta.

The person Fydas talking about was the real Ark, the hero of light.

Ark (in play) was a copy of him.

  • @Nanoryoki youre actually right ô.o

    ive never realized that

but i think we never find out, sad....

  • I actually felt like crying when I finished this game...

Such a LONG, yet merry journey

  • i was feel something strange when i finished this game........ very good

  • Oh man, brings back so many memories. T^ T

  • i cry finish this ;( is 2012 of 21 december whith a happy ending xDDDDDDD.

  • As already said in Part 1 of this video - this is one of the sadest endings ever made and it still brings me to tears.

I got my own interpretation of the ending. In my opinion it is Ark who knockes on the door. This makes the ending a good one for me though. :)

But I still cannot hold me back, the music is so genius. ;(

  • I felt the same way about the ending, so far its the only one that had made me cry XD

There's actually a foreshadowing in the game (which hints you how things will turn out): Its said that every one has another self: because there's the light world and dark world (underworld); after Dark Gaia died, the underworld and its inhabitants disappeared, like it was meant to be...the final scene shows "Light Ark" visiting "Light Elle"

  • @Xlay3r that's still very sad

  • They can make a fantasy film of this game ;) ... I played and love this game, too... I am lucky that i have a ROM for it.I have gift my old SNES and Games a little friend... Now i am very sad for that, that i don't have it in real :(

  • Even though the bird sequence was supposed to be Arks last dream, i still think he was reincarnated as a bird in the lightworld. Either way Arks soul lives on......still, poor Ark :( ..very sad

  • My first game for SNES... and the best game ever. I'm honored °_°

  • the story should earn grammys ammys oscars and what ever, never seen such a good story in an RPG before!

  • I think the parents of Elle/Melina are somehow at the door or the dead Ark from the underworld who has been killed by the good Ark of the overworld

  • *raises colorful plastic cup of lukewarm lemonade into ray of dusty sunshine subdued by a colorful patchy blanket to prevent it from blurring out the television screen and pumps fist simultaneously*

  • this ending really reflects that sense of optimism about the future and the progress of scientific development that characterized the mid 90s

  • it's also the apex of snes videogames as well as my childhood after a steady buildup of increasingly good stuff for the super nintendo and probably one of my best memories. it's this game and especially this sequence and within it especially the part where the music peaks and the stork-shaped airplane flies in from some future that seemed to become increasingly distant as this game receded into the past and we head towards global warming, geopolitical worry and social decay

    semper fucking games

  • a very moving ending indeed.....made me almost cry ^^

  • For some reason...I was always affected deeply by the image of Ark going to bed never to wake up again. I wept when I first finished this game in 2004, and it still strikes me today as a very moving ending.

  • i wept as well

  • Me too. I think it is one of the greatest games ever, but the ending was both sad and very "unfair" to Ark and Melina. I still when I think about it today.

  • Best. Ending. Ever.

  • ya habia olvidado este juego... que nostalgia :)

  • man i get chills still now when i watch this. its so dark. yet brilliant. i luv this game.

  • one of the most epic ending with the great Panzer Dragoon Saga RPG on Sega Saturn

  • That was a fucked up ending. Like scary.

  • i demand a psp remake!

let this game be KNOWN to sony lovers!

  • I believe the person knocking at the door at the end was light Ark. When Dark Ark died, Light Ark was resurrected. Well, that's what I want to believe anyway. I cried the first time I beat this. Dark Ark and Light Elle could never be together, but Light Ark could be with her...

Anyway, at least Dark Ark gets to be a bird. If you call that a happy ending. I wonder what Dark Elle became.

  • For me the one knocking at the door is Dark Ark. Just before the last scene you can clearly see the bird goin' down...

And Elle before opening the door said that was almost midnight... as Light Gaia said ("Enjoy your last day of happynes") Ark's last day ends at midnight.

So it's clearly Ark's final farewell to Elle.

Such a sad and emotional ending...

That was one of my favourites of all times.

  • Love the end of this game

  • This Game made me cry so much when I completed it, the story has never been so touching. The Ending Music is well put together and really adds more tears. I miss this game so much.

  • This is actually one of the most epic game endings ever...I´m still of the opinion that nothing comes close to Terranigma when it comes to the story. 5*

  • Lufia: Rise of the sinistrals. Take my word on it ;)

  • yeah lufia also rockz but the storyline of terranigma and it's music is better i think.

  • i always thought about it... are you fuckin able to save at the end?! i pressed every button.. nothing happened.. so does that mean you are NOT able to save at the end??

  • He evolves into Blake!

  • This Game is the most wonderful Game I've ever seen in my whole life!

No other Game can reach this one!

The Music, the Landscapes, the Storyline, the Graphics!

No-one would have ever thought, something like this would be possible for Nintendo!

So much heart they've put in this game!

It's unbelieveable and everytime this Ending and the whole Game makes me lose some Tears

    It's the best Game ever!!!

  • Well... actually, the "most important" thing of games is graphics... but NO... storylines like this one deserve to be glorius, and to be remembered for all time... only games like the "Metal Gear Solid" series, "Shadow of the Colossus", and "ICO" (games not so far from today), have reached the perfection that terranigma reached.

At least today a few game designer take care of this aspect of the game; the storyline and the emotions... like Fumito Ueda and Hideo Kojima.

  • the end when ark meets Elle again and then "the end" and the music is simple perfect, and i doubt any game could match this perfection

  • This ending made me cry...

  • it's sad to see that "modern" games don't have any of this deep storytelling and atmosphere left. where did all the talented game makers go to?

ffs, we do NOT want next gen graphics, we want games like terranigma, tales of phantasia (the snes version), illusion of time back!

  • Ever played MGS?

  • well, i hope you like Megaman, because there is a new version coming out, all 8 bit style ^^

It may be old news to you, but just wanted to tell ^^

And you are right, next gen sucks. 8 and 16 bit had the best games ever.

  • I agree with cartoongraveyard about Illusion of Gaia and this game. I played this almost 10 years ago! Its one of the best, and will always have a place in my heart! Thanks for the upload. ;p

  • So ark dies? : (

  • actually, in the world of terranigma no one "dies". They all get reborn eg as bird like Ark did.

So I always wondered, why Beruga saw a need for "immortality"

  • Not everybody knows that life continues on. If people knew that, they wouldn't put so much importance into staying alive.

  • he says that birth and death are connected with huge pain and he tried to solve this problem.

  • The ending to this hit me really hit me hard for some reason. Most games dont really grab me emotionally but this and the illusion of time ending really got me.

I dunno what it was, just wandering around your town at the end and everyones so happy, but its all going to end. :'(

  • Terranigma is one of the best game I have ever played. It's beautiful, funny... everything. The end is so... unexpected; yet so wonderful and dark. Everytime I listen to this song I wanna cry... I've plyed tis game a LOT of times, it brings me back a lot of memories, because I used to play it with my brother when I was about 7 or 8.

This game has a lot of messages D: have you noticed that the people were increasingly unhappy as the city was growing? Shocking.

  • we need a second part of this fantastic game ... please Tomoyoshi !!!

  • i played this often, when i was a child! i remember.... :)

  • I love both games. You can't even compare them.

  • I cried a bit when I saw this ending, it really moved me when I was little, so cruel and yet so beautiful.. and I don't think any of todays game are able to perform something like that

  • I think if you played persona 3 for the PS2 it might have the same effect as this game. I almost cried at the end of that game. instead of that i don't think any next gen game has any story that really grabs people like this game.

  • yeah back then graphics and gameplay could never be vauled more than story, thus they didn't even try to. Today's a bit different.. well, I admit, there are some really good ones out today as well, but they still don't reach the classic ones

  • oh so very very true.

  • No ff7 is not that great. Terranigma outshines ff7 in all aspects if you have half a brain.

  • @NathanWubs

Ahh, tthe only thing more rabid than FF7 fanboys: Anti-FF7 fanboys...

  • @NathanWubs

Agreed, Terranigma shits all over ALL FF Games. Who the hell said that FF7 is better than this game???????!!!!! Because that person has no brain at all or no sense of good storytelling!!!! >:C SHAME ON YOU!

  • @NathanWubs and secret of mana>all!!!

  • Ark fell into a deep sleep...

And Ark dreamt his last dream...

It was a dream of becoming a bird and seeing the world grown older.

The most poetic and meaningful thing ever to be in a video game. The ending of this game is so perfect. It is the very depth of life that we all share... and it makes me weep.

  • Most people here are made to cry when they watch/play the game. I, however, thought the game was rather dark, especially for its time.

If done right, a remake of this game would be unlike anything out right now. For me, it came off as something like Ico or Shadow of the Colossus, in terms of the sense of darkness and sorrow it evoked. Very unique game, if not rather long.

  • is the ark u play the evil or the light one ?

and what happends when ark dies ? do u get to play anyother guy ?

  • he is a copy from the dark site but he turns against his Master and with his death the hero dies also!

But he was reborn as a bird!

  • k u never get to fight this other ark ?

ive just beaten that robot in berugas lab ( gotten 3 starstones) havent seen another ark

  • No you can't

why does you want to fight him?

He is a good one and you are from the evil site but you don't know and want to do also good things (like killing beruga :-) ).

  • oh when i read i though "evil" ark got killed by the good one :P

    srry :P

  • this is one of the most influential games i have ever played. Terranigma and Chrono Trigger have always moved me...this ending makes me tear *sob*...now a day people thing kids will no longer comprehend this kind of themes, so they make silly games, with lame stories and the only good thing is the graphics

  • man this ending makes me tear up every time. it's good enough even without the scene at the end with Light Elle, but that scene.....it just makes the ending unbeatable. now just when the hell is Nintendo going to release this on the Virtual Console?

  • Probably never. I loved this game and the endings to the good SNES RPGs usually made me tear up more than the modern RPGs do. It may not have been able to use the most complex sound bits, but they knew how to make a very nice melody for what they were given.

  • this game is one of the best games i ever played. it may be old, but it stays a game which just rocks the house. :)

  • They Should Remake this for the DS!! =D

  • Comment removed

  • really lame joke. Even if Kingdom hearts is a very nice rpg. It still does not hold a candle to this game.

  • I finished it today! Very nice piece of art. But I don't get it all, maybe because I played it with many pauses in between. It took me about 3 years (pauses included, doh).

  • WOW 3 years, that sure is long. I finished it in a week xD

  • This ending made me cry the first time i saw it.....and it still does.

  • have you ever tried mother 3? you might even cry more when you finished it.

  • gran juego estara para siempre en mi memoria me hubiera gustado una secuela una adaptacion por ultimo pero que siguiera como una saga es demasiado bueno diria yo uno de los mejores juegos de la snez!

  • voy a llorar T_T !!!

  • I don't know why, but everytime I see a single video about terranigma, especially the edning video, I just wanna cry, There are no other such games with such a story line like terranigma.

    Thats it, im off

    spike132000 is crying... ;-)

  • Wow. I'm glad I read these comments, I had this ending all wrong in my mind.

I failed to recognize that was light elle at the very end there. I thought that last scene was dark ark coming to see her at "almost midnight" to spend their last few minutes before they disappear together.

I'm glad this had a happier ending than I thought. :)

  • You just don't see epic storylines, fantastic gameplay, or anything like that anymore like we did with Terranigma. Heck, even the Zelda saga has lost its flair after Wind Waker. Sometimes, you just want to bring out your old SNES just to play some of the greatest games of all time (Super Metroid, Terranigma, FF6, MegaMan X, Chrono Trigger, EVO, etc.).

  • There hasn't yet been a game that touched me like this one did - maybe because it was one of the first games I played on SNES. Characters, storyline, music, graphics and gameplay, all seems to fit perfectly together here. Just magical.. This will remain my favourite game for a long time I think.

Thanks for sharing, 5 stars. =)

  • this is probably the last SNES game I've played out of hundreds (since I grew up with NES/SNES and this was a late-term foreign release) and it still affects me more than any other title. it was the only SNES game to actually make me cry and it still does

  • Same here. Such a beautiful ending.

  • To this day, I havent seen a game with a better storyline than terranigma did

  • I kinda disagree.

Terranigma is a complete game,it's not like the others where you expect possibilities about a continue.

But on the other side...we can always think about something...

But in SoE,I agree,I want to know what the evil Butler is up to xD

  • Granstream Saga on the PSone is like a spiritual Sequel, in case you want to check it out.

  • Its not a sequel at all, its just made by quintet. Quintet even denied it to be part of the soulblazer series. easily seen by the lack of some things like turbo the dog.

  • one of the best endings to a video game very clear and understanding You don't see many endings such as these today.

  • I thank Enix for bringing this masterpiece to Europe.

  • Paid about $200 for a complete copy of the English version. Worth every penny. Definitely one of the best RPG's on any system and still looks great even today.

  • and is the beast game ever!!

  • Or coming to the WII

    *jk*
