Saw Arlo perform this version at Wolftrap in Vienna, VA in the late 80's or so. Loved it then and still love it today. Arlo always keeps me smiling!!!
I remember seeing Arlo perform this song on PBS a long time ago and he told the story of how once he was asked what language he sang in, and his response was "I'm singin' in American!" Does anyone have access to that footage or is it here and I just haven't found it yet?
Hey Arlo, ... Don't you remember what Pete said? "Arlo", he said "folk songs are serious". And you said "Right"! No Crows in my garden, but no Zuchinni either. Gotta figure!
had some kids be gardeners and flowers to this for a church concert, one of my better ideas, girls had painted cardboard flowers around their faces, picture it!
he was /is a memory if when i was little kid driving with my parents 20 something years ago to disney for something like days... and dad playing him when he thinks everyone is asleep
Have you ever heard John Denver's version of the Garden Song? It's lovely. Also, the video with he and the muppets doing the song is so cute it gave me diabetes.
Arlo--This is the first work you have done I dont like. You "rewrote" the words to have fun with a great song written by a taltented artist. The words actually go "Old crow watching hungrilly from his perch in yonder tree..." Nowhere in the song is the crow ever referenced as watching the person. Otherwise I like all your stuff.
Love Love this version. Is there a way I can download to my PC? Arlo & Jackie ROCK!

Dang, I couldn't hear the words to the Anti-Garden Song.
A great moment, though, thanks for sharing it.

There's more to folk songs that meets the eye indeed! The guy's seriously funny, bless him.

Don't get me wrong, I love Arlo, but he's the only one who sings the verse that way. The original goes:
Old crow watchin' hungrily
From his perch in yonder tree
In my garden I'm as free
As that feathered thief up there
The rant makes no sense, seeing as how he's the one who "wrote" the lyrics.

Actually Pete sings "hungry eye on me," as well.

Sleepygirlnow, you're right. This version is different, from the one I'm doing in choir right now. This one isn't as...classical.

I saw John Denver in concert and he sang it wonderfully. He gave credit to David Mallet for writting it too. Nice comment.

Oh, man! Arlo at his best!
I go to Arlo's shows to have fun...(and haven't been disapointed yet). If you want serious, staid music... go to a Beetoven concert or something.

Jesus Arlo, you butchered this song. It's not a drinking song for God's sake, it's a ...prayer.
