This is all BS ... I smell a scam. BUILD a cannery on the river, create thousands of jobs and supply all the shelters with cat and dog food. Also great fertilizer. If other fish are eatable why NOT these carps.
@mba2ceo those fish ARE edible, and good. They feed on algae and plankton, so they don't build up a lot of toxins in their flesh. People are trying to market them as "silverfin."
They breed worse than roaches grow like weeds and are cheaper than dirt. They'd be a good resource for pet food, aquaculture and for human consumption. They just have to be marketed successfully.

The only reason people here won't eat it is because they associate it with the common carp which is just an awful tasting fish. To encourage people to eat this fish it has been renamed Silverfin and Kentucky Tuna in parts of the US.
Honestly I am looking forward to when they arrive in Lake Superior. They are much bigger and stronger than the salmon, trout, pike, bass, and walleye I catch now. Since they are filter feeders I might have to snag them in the tail but hey, I'm killing them anyway!

the Asian carp wont do anything to the great lakes look at the illinois river for an example its infested with them and the river still thrives with fish life and is still a major fishery you can say the same thing about the lamprey eel goby or even the common carp there all invasive species that are said to destroy the ecosystem ....
in Asia they love these fish all we need to do is to get good marketing say its "good eating" put no limit on it and people will catch them by like crazy

Not like it was some mischiveous chinamen who hid them in his suitcase and flew ALL THE WAY here. By-passing air security and threw the Asian Carp in the Great Lakes while laughing hideously.
