These 2 are singing a song, while Shane was writing and telling a story. When Shane and Kristy were singing back and fourth, you could hear the emotion in their voices because they;ve been through and seen some shit in their lives. This cover has no emotion to it whatsoever and fall way short of what Shane wrote the song to be.

@woodyfurball He's actually a brilliant singer and songwriter, his voice just doesn't suit this song like Shanes does. As for Florence, she's over-rated I agree, but she sings in a completely different style to Brennan or Oconnor. She sings more like Kate Bush or Tori Amos. You don't need to bash anyhting that's not from Ireland.

I could never fully understand Mc Gowans lyrics due to his gruff (but marvelous) voice. But Billy Braggs perfect diction, Florences femininity, and the harp allow me to appreciate the song even more. I now love both versions
