well its an east coast band in case you didnt know that and he is basiclly singing about the girl he is in love with and she left, only leaving a note, for a guy she is still in love with who lives on the west coast. he however is not still in love with her. the singing man is asking what he could have done to have kept her there with him but then saying what she did was unforgivable and that he will not be there when she comes back.. really kind of depressing actually :'( beautiful song though
