Maybe I didn't hear the comment correctly. It sounded as if the narrator said Trinity's bells are the only change-ringing ones in the United States. In the mid-1990s a set of change-ringing bells were installed at St. James Episcopal Church in Dallas. Had St. James' bells been removed?
I would love to hear more bells in New York City and it is wonderful that Trinity Church has this new set for lower Manhattan. Thanks ever so much for this video and many thanks to that kind and generous (and rich) Englishman for the gift.
Correct (although its the 7th of the back 8) - you would think if they were doing a video like this, they would get someone who can actually ring up the bells properly
Don't know what to say. Yes clearly the bells shown have a patina of age. They're not new. Also did i hear the narrator correctly "the only bells hung for change ringing in America." That is totally untrue. I know of several and have rung (just a novice) at St. Andrews in Honolulu.
I believe it is the distinction that they are the only twelve bell peal. For instance the peel at Christ Church Boston (Old North Church of the Paul Revere's Ride) which dates to 1745 is an eight bell peel. That at the Cathedral Church of Sts. Peter and Paul, Washington (Washington National Cathedral) is a ten bell peel
And here's to the newest of secular change ringing bells in the US, being installed now at The University of Washington in Seattle:
"..The UW bells have been cast by the world's largest bell foundry, the Royal Eijsbouts Bellfoundry in the Netherlands, and vary between 200 and 700 lbs. UK bell hangers Taylors Eayre and Smith (founded as Taylors in 1784) have designed the bell installation and will oversee the hanging of the bells..."

the bells and belfry that are shown in this video are of Loughborough Parish church. There was obviously an attempt in this film to protray what ringing is to a public who are not used to it as a tradition. How do you know if installation at trinity had been completed before the video had been released? Even if it had been, if they had been testing and finishing off the installation of the ringing chamber, the last thing they'd have needed was a film crew hanging around
You got me. I didn't see the text, missed the vocal at the beginning and the other places. I stand corrected.

Thank you so much for posting this video.
Excellent.
Can they be rung by visiting ringers?
Y3ellowRooster 4 years ago
All thats stupid is the bells shown ringing at the beggining and end of the video are NOT the actual new bells nor is the ringers footage.
Theres a video of some guys ringing the bells here and its a completly different ringing chamber.
