2:28-2:41 why do people keep using this thinking it's authentic? The voices of the supposed USAAF airmen were recorded AFTER the war as part of US propaganda, only the footage itself is real.
Met Steinhoff and Galland at the Air and Space Museum in D.C.. Both fine men. They had incredible careers. Impressive even after the war. Steinhoff with NATO and Galland in South America. Both thought that Hitler was the worst thing ever to happen to their beloved Nation. They fought to defend their Country. They did it with unparrallelled bravery. Both heroes.
@49bobbyk not really dude? Galland fought with the Condor Legion in 1936' during the Spanish Civil War. pls explain how Galland was defending his country by flying ground support missions in support of the Nationalists under Francisco Franco?
@fluffy1931 WE do not care! Then nobody cares We blast up red asses whereever we find them! So? Nice photo: you are still a Down Sindrom Pucking idiot.
Most of the JV 44 pilots, including Galland and Steinhoff, were actually anti-Nazi. They were sent back to the front for defending the good name of their men from Goering's slander.
@wotanderwilde Me-262 was not only the first jet but the best!!! Ruskyes and Yankees had to copy it using Germans cientists for the Korean War. If not, they would have taken more ten years to reach the same technological level!!! Hitler was totally stupid when decided to use Me-262 like bomber. Only when he already lost the war he decide to create the JV 44.
@wotanderwilde It depends on what you mean by "first flight". Various testing planes flew earlier, some were even powered by piston engines, but the final Me 262 configuration didn't fly until July '43.
What is perhaps more relevant, is that no other jet aircraft of this early time could even approach the performance of the Me 262. At this early time. The Meteor could "fly". But not fast.
Finally, other jet aircrafts, both german and british, flew well before both the Meteor and Me 262.
@Vermiliontea not really dude. The Lockheed P-80A maximum speed was 558 mph at sea level and 492 mph at 40,000 feet. Initial climb rate was 4580 feet/minute, and an altitude of 20,000 feet could be attained in 5.5 minutes. Service ceiling was 45,000 feet. The P-80A’s normal range was 780 miles, and maximum range was 1440 miles.
P-80's climb rate is almost 700 feet per min faster. (4580 v 3880 feet per minute)
And the P-80’s service ceiling is 7,400 feet higher. (45,000 v 37,565 ft.)
@fluffy1931 I was speaking about '43. By '45 the americans were definitely far ahead of the germans when it comes to making a practical jetfighter. Which makes much of the luft'46 fanboys makebelieve just a bad joke ofc. What you failed to mention is that the P-80's wingloading was also far lower, making it a much more flyable aircraft. It's generally acknowledged that the Me 262 didn't stand a chance against a P-51 in a turning fight. By contrast, the P-80 outclassed both the Bearcat and P-51
@fluffy1931 Me 262 is still worthy of some respect. It did pioneer a few technical solutions which were immediately gobbled up by US.
I always like to point out the reason for Germany to be ahead in '43 and behind in '45: It's the same reason: The germans went for an axial flow compressor. This made them achieve good thrust early, with a light engine. But it's also full of problems. Which is why the american/british radial compressor engines would be much better in '45 and '46.
@Vermiliontea The Germans made a mistake by not going with 2 jets the He280 and the Me262, the He280 would have been a much better dog fighter than the 262, and could have been in the air in 1943, just in time for the Allied bombing campaign. Maybe???? Who know?? We could have seen P-80's and Gloster jets in jet-jet air combat with the Germans.
Yes, he had a huge slice of luck. All of the attemps where from the German side, i think. Did the Allies try to assasinate him? And if not why? Another question i would hear to be answered..
@wotanderwilde I saw something on the Military Channel where a British agent claimed he could have easily assassinated Hitler before the war, but was denied by his superiors, especially Chamberlain. I think they were afraid it would have provoked a war or retaliatory assassinations of their leaders. during the war, I don't think it would have been so easy to sneak assassins into Germany and get close to Hitler
Look up Operation Foxley...was the british plan to rub out hitler during the war...but they called it off because he was doin such a excellent job of winning the war for them
@wotanderwilde yea but Germany still had some bite left even in 44.... with Hitler gone whoever took over could of ended the war....or they could of dragged it on with many more lives being lost....and like i said with Hitler winning the war for them with all the rash decisions he was making....no point risking putting someone smarter in his place

In the East, they held the Baltic and Warsaw..I think they would have liked to have knocked over Hitler
May be the first war and it's unilaterally allotment of guilt to Germany was the biggest mistake the Allies could commit? Did you think about it?
Beside of this: After WWII Germany arised between a very short time again. Many buildings were senselessly destroyed and many unguilty civilists and refugees killed, but not the nation.
@wotanderwilde infact they knew about the V-2 and all the stuff.. they wanted them.. so they decided to do a invasion.. all the dead allies were the reason just to get the German technology.. Saying " freeing europe from Germans" was just a propaganda thing to the soldiers...

Hmm, yes i think they would...
On the other hand:
The plan was from 1944, as everyone could see that the end is near. Maybe they just didnt thought germany would withstand that long...
Anyway, i think 1 attempt is far to less if you see how many attemps germans made.

The blacks werent aces...
they were simply assigned because of racial biased views to protect bombers...
never lost a bomber to german aircraft...
Heh... jsut look it up youll see

And ah only 445 went over seas to dive bomb... after that they where reasigned to strafing and bomber protection...
Wicked ass machien though the ME 262 a true pinnacle of technology...
I love how hte germans put their style into their machines though.... its smooth and lowprofile! but such a machien of death

Yep...
Germans truly created the first jet fighter...
Sadly its weakness was exploited by the
Schwarze Vogelmenschen
or black birds...[aka the first african american pilots] on March 24 1945 the tuskgee Arimen shot down three ME262 German fighters after safely guarding a bomber group...

Steinhoff and Gallant, das wären die richtigen Vorbilder! Schön, daß man sowas auch mal zu sehen bekommt! 5 Punkte, klar.

The ME262s shooting down the Mustangs and FFs was brilliant. Great background music, too.
