Listen, I love George. However, my issue with him is that he likes to play both sides of the aisle and then portray himself on the moral highground of an issue. Notice how he mentions Hollywood assholes for gun control, but he wants to look cool and hip, so he turns on those who have the courage to stand against those same Hollywood assholes as a bunch of redneck wack jobs. If you believe comedians are the same way off-stage, then you need a serious reality check. Comedy, like art, reflects reality, but it's not the same as reality. Carlin may have the same opinions of the world and religion, for example, offstage, but that doesnt' mean he's a mean asshole. The attitude is the artistic part and the opinions are the reflection in the routine.

Without the NRA and the NRA-ILA (Legal branch) the 2nd Amendment would have already been erased. And for those that think the NRA is run by "right wing" you are again greatly mistaken. chances are, if your at home watching some crappy sitcom with your family and some group of idiots bust down your door with semi-automatics - your not going to get very far. A gun is useless for home defense unless you see the threat coming a mile away or unless you just hold it in your hand at all times. The best defense is making it harder for the bad guy to get in. He will just find an easier mark then. Of course, chances are, the bad guy is someone your related to or friends with.

My wife grew up around guns. As you can see she didn't end up in the news. She grew up in a household where guns were not locked (ammo was though). She never even touched a gun up until a couple of months ago.

If the government agents are the only people with guns, than you will have no defence against a government run coup. Having a well armed society also keeps the government from oppressing its people. This is why everybody feels like they NEED to own a gun. But gun ownership is not the problem - it's gun reliance. That's more of a cultural issue, but too many people feel that the gun is the first option, and not the last.
