@Soopination depends on what you are looking for. Black and White is build around you being a god. I mean you have more miracles there is a more interactive way of teaching your creature miracles, you show it a miracle a couple of times and eventually it'll learn how to do it(rather then just buy the ability like in the second one) and the story is a bit better in the first one.
@Soopination there are things who work better in the second one then the first for example impressing neighboring villages with your city and structures and how happy your population doesn't exist in the first one. For some reason if you don't figure out how the game works you will rather be forced to play an evil role to make your life easier. Also the first one can be quite difficult even punishingly difficult and also frustrating at times...
@Urgiapain Frustrating I'll agree with, especially if you play on the unpatched version (not recommended), but the game is not difficult. If you know what you are doing, the game can be defeated quite quickly and with almost no trouble at all. The only trouble you're likely to encounter if you know what you're doing is the issues caused by random glitches (which there are a lot of).
@CaptainMauin well I personally couldn't pass the level where fireballs kept falling near and eventually on my village. Got the crap frustrated out of me there...
@Urgiapain Land 4. Those fireballs are deadly. All you've got to do is press Alt + 1 to slow down time and then you can catch the fireballs. You also have to send your Creature to the Japanese village to take it over. Once that Japanese town is yours, just do the Gold Scroll there to get the Guardian Stone. Destroying that Guardian Stone will eliminate the fireballs. Then go and fight Sleg son of Sleg, and then go reunite (or kill) Adam/Keiko. Oh, then there's the cursed village. :)

@LordCHull Black and White was more of a sandbox game.The game dynamics and story are amazing but as far as how the game is played, it's kinda up to you to use and exploit the rules of being a god. Black and White 2 is more of an RTS. The implementation of War and armies makes it a whole new game. I think Black and White 1 makes you feel more like a god battling gods! The world sucks you in, but the pet AI and figure it out attitude of the game make it dull after a few weeks. B&W2 was fun longer

I want to play this game so bad...! I played the 2nd and I LOVE it! I want to try the first one as well, but every time I install it on my laptop (windows 7) or on my desktop (windows XP) the game laggs so much that is impossible to proceed...! WHY??
Windows 7 is the most excellent operating system i've truly ever ran. My buddies and I downloaded it totally free at Windows7FreeDLXcom (replace X with . ) and have not gotten problems!

I liked Black and White 1 better. It had so many more miracles. And building wonders to power up your abilities was awesome. I think it took me just over 80 hours to beat it.
theres nothing wrong with B&W or B&W2 there just different games, they both have things the other one needs. yes its B&W2 is more of an RTS not that thats bad, its just i couldn't help but feel confused and bored by all the managing of your creature and your villages.

i love the whole flying through the strange realm and through the solar system, such a great idea.
makes you think that what the people of earth call a god is really some kind of alien from another dimension that takes advantage of the people with strange powers.
of course black & white was a knock off of populous so its idea is not completely new.
black and white don't refer to people's skin color but the purity of the heart, good people have a white heart and consiousness, evil people have a black heart.
Nothing racist here, as white people can have a black heart and black people can have a white heart ;) in my opinion, 95% of all people have a white heart ;)
hell no the second one was great, they just didn't bother with skirmish or multiplayer and besides it was much more user friendly and gave you better control, not to mention graphics.
-the interface was much better than the original, much more friendly, let you see what was going on in the back ground which B&W didn't, what your saying about it is a disgrace!
-gameplay was great and still had the similar mechanics to the original (what are you talking about)
-although creature fights don't involve you as much its not a staring contest 50% of the time, like B&W
BW1 didn't have an interface. At all. That was one of the main selling points of it too, that the entire screen is yours and your vision isn't blocked at all. I agree, that the interface in BW2 is great and user friendly. But having an interface to begin with is wrong. That takes away something BW1 had.
Gameplay was COMPLETELY changed. The belief-system was deleted completely. Now I either sit on my butt building houses like in a manager-game, or build armies like in some random RTS.
I no longer feel like a god. In BW1 I was God. I was always right. Everyone loved me. And those who were shown the light and led to my path.
In BW1 I'm just a simple army general.
Creature fights required thinking and tactics. In BW2, while they do look awesome, it's just like watching boxing in TV. You can do nothing to influence it.
you can influence creature fight by fighting the enemy creature your self with rocks and miracles.
besides i wanted to be evil in B&W and i tried my best and it took me forever and by the time the music changed i looked at my temple and it changed shape not texture and my realm became a little darker(A LITTLE! NOT ALOT)
like, is that it? is this all you have to offer LIONHEAD? B&W2 better be much better than this! and thats what a lot of people thought before it came out.
What I'm saying is, BW2 is a good game in itself, though easy. The thing is, it just doesn't feel like BW anymore. You said it yourself, it feels more like an RTS.
In this game the creature is like a robot. You go to a menu, press some buttons and it does what you want t to do. You yourself are not a god but an army general.
There's no more getting people to worship you, just raiding their cities or luring them to your own. It just lost that godly magic BW1 had.
BW1 was challenging. BW2 was stupidly easy. They should have at least added skirmish/multiplayer maps.
Because, all-in-all, it's a fun game but after you play it through in a week at most, what can you do? Play it again. You know what that is. Boring. Terribly boring. I'd probaly play more with it if there were other alternatives.
Tough, I still don't consider it a BW game. The only thing that remains from BW1 is the creature, and even that was radically changed.
well than i guess thats you because thats not what i found. B&W was impossible, i only beat lethes once and never beat the game, as if there was anything to do after that. never got muitiplayer to work and only 3 skirmish maps (yea like thats a lot -_-)
B&W2 was just right for me, challenging but not ridiculous.
i don't really care if it doesn't have alternative scenarios at least its got good RTS mixed with Sim.
oh i wouldn't say that, an army general who can cast miracles, summon the dead, own a creature, change the time of day and not to mention Epic miracles and people still worship you at your alter.

and besides the military is just an add on to all your villages.

Well, I completed the whole game in a week, only using my creature, about 2 platoons per map, and an occasional fireblast now-and-then. I only used epics to grow my influence.
And after that, it really felt boring. Send in creature to kill enemy army... recruit platoon.. send platoon in. Next level. Repeat.
BW1 was challenging and fun. God against god, where you actually used your spells. The last battle against Nemesis was friggin' EPIC. Meteors here, Megablast there, Hurricane to top it off.
i think that LionHead studios was trying to pursue a different type of game and many people thought the opposite of you when B&W was a new game. mind you i liked B&W but i didn't like being blind as to what was going that i couldn't see such as how much mana i had and how much resources my people had. how evil or good i am.
i don't see how having a user interface is taking away anything from B&W since it was renowned for its zooming ability which was what helped sell it in the end
the god is not a giant hand; the god and probably iots creature sees a big hand, the other gods/creatures see a giant ball and the mortals do not see nothing
Great intro.. I was hooked. It took me nearly a year, what with all the crashes at first. That game crashed SO BAD. But finally with more RAM and a new video card (ok, I bought a whole new computer just to play this game) I beat it. I AM THE ONE TRUE GOD.
But that's it. You'd think you could fart around in your world and play God and grow your villages and have fun, BUT NO. That GDF lion keeps f****** with you.
Well I guess it's just there to leave a little challenge for you after you finish the game. With me he wasn't that hard, I just PWNED him with my 100% good horse. He was strong...

is it worth getting this one or the sequel, it hink this one looks better (i'm not too keen on war games) but the graphics aren't very good, which one should I get?
The first one was (in my opinion) the best. Although there was no soldier class for humans, there were more miracles and the game was more challenging. The second was was OKAY but all you had to do was build an army and sweep everything away. It took me a day to finish the second one (i think) and weeks of fun to complete the 1st one. Get them both and see whut i mean
hard to just pick on of these, since they're both very good. Personally I love the first one and would recommend it to anyone. Though the sequel has some trait like aswell. Try the first one and if you don't like just move on the the latter since it has one think i all ways missed in the first game, soldiers.
But the only thing wrong with the first one are all the bugs like, it crashes alot, every time I load the game again my beast lost all his skills and the annoying crashes

Black and white 2 lacks everything that made BnW1 great.
-Creature teaching/learning by mimicry.
-Temples.
-It has an interface. An interface in Black and White, damnit, that's just a disgrace!
-Extremely dumbed down gameplay.
-No more taking over worshippers by actually showing offyour godly powers. Just send in Bob and Steve to whack the town centre for a minute.
-Creature fights were epic. In BW2 the first to knock down the enemy wins.
-The wolf's model is bugged. Q_Q
So no. BnW2 sucked.

well thats how you see it.
i however thought B&W 2 was great and it was:
-the interface was much better than the original, much more friendly, let you see what was going on in the back ground which B&W didn't, what your saying about it is a disgrace!
-gameplay was great and still had the similar mechanics to the original (what are you talking about)
-although creature fights don't involve you as much its not a staring contest 50% of the time, like B&W
so no, B&W2 is just different not bad

BW1 didn't have an interface. At all. That was one of the main selling points of it too, that the entire screen is yours and your vision isn't blocked at all. I agree, that the interface in BW2 is great and user friendly. But having an interface to begin with is wrong. That takes away something BW1 had.
Gameplay was COMPLETELY changed. The belief-system was deleted completely. Now I either sit on my butt building houses like in a manager-game, or build armies like in some random RTS.

I no longer feel like a god. In BW1 I was God. I was always right. Everyone loved me. And those who were shown the light and led to my path.
In BW1 I'm just a simple army general.
Creature fights required thinking and tactics. In BW2, while they do look awesome, it's just like watching boxing in TV. You can do nothing to influence it.

you can influence creature fight by fighting the enemy creature your self with rocks and miracles.
besides i wanted to be evil in B&W and i tried my best and it took me forever and by the time the music changed i looked at my temple and it changed shape not texture and my realm became a little darker(A LITTLE! NOT ALOT)
like, is that it? is this all you have to offer LIONHEAD? B&W2 better be much better than this! and thats what a lot of people thought before it came out.

What I'm saying is, BW2 is a good game in itself, though easy. The thing is, it just doesn't feel like BW anymore. You said it yourself, it feels more like an RTS.
In this game the creature is like a robot. You go to a menu, press some buttons and it does what you want t to do. You yourself are not a god but an army general.
There's no more getting people to worship you, just raiding their cities or luring them to your own. It just lost that godly magic BW1 had.

BW1 was challenging. BW2 was stupidly easy. They should have at least added skirmish/multiplayer maps.
Because, all-in-all, it's a fun game but after you play it through in a week at most, what can you do? Play it again. You know what that is. Boring. Terribly boring. I'd probaly play more with it if there were other alternatives.
Tough, I still don't consider it a BW game. The only thing that remains from BW1 is the creature, and even that was radically changed.
It's a shame.

well than i guess thats you because thats not what i found. B&W was impossible, i only beat lethes once and never beat the game, as if there was anything to do after that. never got muitiplayer to work and only 3 skirmish maps (yea like thats a lot -_-)
B&W2 was just right for me, challenging but not ridiculous.
i don't really care if it doesn't have alternative scenarios at least its got good RTS mixed with Sim.
a shame? No. just a different B&W

oh i wouldn't say that, an army general who can cast miracles, summon the dead, own a creature, change the time of day and not to mention Epic miracles and people still worship you at your alter.
i didn't say it felt like and RTS i said its more like one but still feels like i'm god.
and besides the military is just an add on to all your villages.
you say it doesn't feel like a B&W game any more i say it still does, a new B&W, B&W where it hasn't gone before.

Well, I completed the whole game in a week, only using my creature, about 2 platoons per map, and an occasional fireblast now-and-then. I only used epics to grow my influence.
And after that, it really felt boring. Send in creature to kill enemy army... recruit platoon.. send platoon in. Next level. Repeat.
BW1 was challenging and fun. God against god, where you actually used your spells. The last battle against Nemesis was friggin' EPIC. Meteors here, Megablast there, Hurricane to top it off.

i think that LionHead studios was trying to pursue a different type of game and many people thought the opposite of you when B&W was a new game. mind you i liked B&W but i didn't like being blind as to what was going that i couldn't see such as how much mana i had and how much resources my people had. how evil or good i am.
i don't see how having a user interface is taking away anything from B&W since it was renowned for its zooming ability which was what helped sell it in the end

Great intro.. I was hooked. It took me nearly a year, what with all the crashes at first. That game crashed SO BAD. But finally with more RAM and a new video card (ok, I bought a whole new computer just to play this game) I beat it. I AM THE ONE TRUE GOD.
But that's it. You'd think you could fart around in your world and play God and grow your villages and have fun, BUT NO. That GDF lion keeps f****** with you.

well if you like high graphics and war games get 2. but if you like a game without war and low graphics and more to do get 1. And i think 3 is coming soon. Also you need a good computer for 2. And if you get the expansion pack for 2 you need a custom computer.

The first one was (in my opinion) the best. Although there was no soldier class for humans, there were more miracles and the game was more challenging. The second was was OKAY but all you had to do was build an army and sweep everything away. It took me a day to finish the second one (i think) and weeks of fun to complete the 1st one. Get them both and see whut i mean

hard to just pick on of these, since they're both very good. Personally I love the first one and would recommend it to anyone. Though the sequel has some trait like aswell. Try the first one and if you don't like just move on the the latter since it has one think i all ways missed in the first game, soldiers.

But the only thing wrong with the first one are all the bugs like, it crashes alot, every time I load the game again my beast lost all his skills and the annoying crashes
