  • Only had to watch the first 10 min for my english and ended up watching the full video thank you. Some of the best english homework set.

  • It doesn't seem to register how insanely narcissistic this stuff is.

  • Fantastic presentation. I also had to watch this for a class. test tomorrow haha. so very worth it. I use youtube to reach people all over the world who participate in "tricking" an underground sport where our connection hub is youtube and various forums. Our flips, twists, and kicks along with the other underground movements are seen by countless people worldwide. Our community is one of the thousands or hundreds of thousands or more that call youtube.... home....

  • I watched this for a class but towards the end I admit I even had tears in my eyes.

Everything that was said in it was so true and so deep.

  • 19:55 425x350 pixels? That is one tiny screen...

  • Loved it. But I think video comments have gotten alot more positive in the past couple years... thank you thumbs up system. :)

  • I'm starting to feel all human again..

  • Over 9000???!!!!!

  • Simply Amazing! Thank you for this look into the world of YouTube.

  • 45:16 and so on is SO MUCH RELEVANT to what is happening right now. Give me back my Internet.

  • Dear Congress,

Please give us back Wikipedia. I need to do my homework

  • Watched this video for my ECMP355 class. I found it very touching at the end. Thank you for the great lecture!

  • I wonder how many people in my ENG 171 class are actually watching this video.

  • im looking for a webcam now im going to start a 1st vlog! thank you again.

  • i have never seen youtube the way you have helped me to see it... im lost for words.

  • very informative, and awesome video, your welcome to use some of my music if you like !

  • YES!

  • and he only taped on the surface, he forgot about meme, and scarcism on the "related" videos..... as someone is watching a cat eating food, but the top related video is a shark. Top comment you'll read in that vide would be "I like that part where the cat ate food".

a lot of funny hidden humor goes on youtube

  • fruity loops deservesd more attention than this program here

  • I love the fact that wether we like it or not, or better put 'wether we know it or not', we are a part of and international, interemotional and intergrating system. But who is studying everyone? That's the beauty. We are not being studied by anyone, but we are studying ourselves. It is an amazing system of theories and use.

  • The amazing thing about this video is that it's already out of date. The internet is advancing so much that we just can't keep up.

  • wow he just gave a deeper metaphorical meaning to "Numa Numa"

  • every second that I watch of this video validates every point in my thesis. It has been a har ficght, universities in Colombia do not validate internet as a source of anything. This makes me want to fight harder for my goal.

  • Jezz the end of it struck me so much...

  • VSAUCE !!!

  • really cool, THANKS GREY!

  • It's amazing how quickly an hour flies by.

  • 4CHAN

  • I love youtube D:

  • Sincerely this is my favorite video on Youtube. It makes love and understan a little better Youtube, the Internet, people, vloggers, vlogs, the world, my camera, and most important of all... myself.

  • This was awesome!

  • I'd like to thank the U.S. Department of Defense.

  • The fundamental thing you have shown is the new way of human nature. We all wish to be apart so be can be safe and free, but all human beings wish to be joined in spirit, emotionally, and in thought. I cannot wait for when we can have a wifi computer chip in our heads allowing us to connect to any and all other people on the planet and that experience will dwarf anything realized yet in life. It will become a new consciousness, an awareness that will shake the very core of the meaning of us.

  • more then 1,000,000 views proof we don't need videos to just be 3 mins long to keep our attention

  • there is now 244,000 results for Numa Numa O_o

  • Came here because of a class requirement. Definitely thought anthropology was one of the most boring classes I've taken until now. Brilliant.

  • SOMEBODY SHOW THIS TO THE CONGRESS AND SOPA WILL NOT BE PASSED! :)

  • @TheKooleh

This was shown to the library of Congress...

SOPA is all about money. The web companies are now forces to pay legal bribes to Congress through lobying... Or they'll sell out to the Entertainment industry who makes very large "donations" already.

    Sad, I know...

  • omg i want to take his class so bad...

  • makes me proud to study anthropology, i wish more people knew what it was

  • Is it possible to like something more than once because if it is this video deserves it

  • I love this video but this guys voice cracked a bunch of times

  • cool story bro

  • 42:45 ATHENE AND NET NEUTRALITY!

  • This guy sounds so nice.

  • 32:15 guy likes to have sex with websites.

  • Excellent video.

  • I wonder what this presentation would look like today? So much has changed in only a couple of years. The internet moves so quickly! LisaNova and lonelygirl15 are replaced by other people. What did they bring to the table and who's going to eventually replace them?

  • @Elinious okay trash all this, CAT PICTURES!

  • Thank you for such an insightful look at YouTube!

  • This only has 1.7 million views and all the videos they are talking about has 30 times that! only if everyone new about this amazing story......Walter Fisher is my boy, Human being are story-telling machines........numba one rule since Day one son! - (Montez from "Workaholics" on Comedy Central Voice)!

  • I'm gonna get a camera.

  • I am a person not a fish .

  • This just made me cry... DEATH TO SOPA

  • TOP, I like this video

  • good share

  • nice video

  • Awesome video, YouTube is 6 year old only, the video is from 2008, three years ago and the data is stunning, imagine what it is like nowaday, how many hours of video are uploaded every minute, how can a simple video can become viral and get millions of views... we're really living in the fast lane

  • Comment removed

  • This video made me cry. So beautiful. <3

  • Palestra incrível, vídeo incrível!!! Obrigada por compartilhar :D

  • That was a beautiful and yet tragic statement by bnessel1973

  • @mwesch Also what are your opinions on SOPA?

  • @mwesch I was going to ask this on your channel but it appears that you don't accept commentary there. What are your thoughts on the new youtube redesign?; both the portal page as well as channel restructuring. Personally I dislike it because it makes the actual experience more difficult and slows the entire process of discovering new content.

  • How many hours of video are uploaded onto Youtube every day?

    IT'S OVER 9000!!!

  • Was pointed to this as an example of online comunity research, at Lampeter Anthropology, thank you :D was good

  • LOVE IT!

  • So right now I am thinking about myself watching a youtube video about people watching youtube videos about people making youtube videos about people making youtube videos about youtube videos?? I think....

    *Brain Melts*

  • This is the third time that I've watched this video and I love it! Thanks to Dr. Michael Wesch, I know what I want to do with my education beyond my Bachelor's degree. I have even considered moving to Kansas to study with him.

  • @DiRiddles Do it! He is an amazing professor!

  • Over-the-top-AWESOME! Also see Tom Shadyac's "I AM documentary, which asked "What's wrong with the world? And how do we fix it?" This video proves we ARE fixiing what's wrong with the world, which has ALWAYS been our belief that we are not connected.

  • @bizb Michael Wesch is a genius for connecting the dots LITERALLY between Carl Sagan’s “pale blue dot” description of the earth as seen by the astronauts to our webcam’s “little glass dot, the eyes of the world.” As the old saying goes, “The eyes are the windows to the soul.” The internet and your sharing Digital Ethnography’s findings are helping us ALL also connect the dots between the (English) words soul and sole.

  • @bizb @bizb Are all other languages THIS metaphysical?!? The word “sole” was first used in the 14th century, and it originates from Anglo-French ‘sul’, ‘soul’, ‘seul’, which is from the Latin ‘solus’ which means “alone, having no companion/friend/protector, lonely, only, single, unique.” Lonelygirl15…Hmmm…

  • And then there’s that dance song in the video whose lyrics actually include “Aha”! ... We’re still in “the Garden.” We never left. We just believed we did. Everyone’s invited to this Garden Party. The venue is the tiny blue dot. ;-D

  • I never thought I would be so interested in a YouTube video that lasted more than 4 minutes long! :)

  • Shoot, I was just going to watch the first 10 minutes and I thought I'd get bored. Now I'm intrigued and want to watch more, but I can't I have class! I'll be back, don't worry.

  • I had to watch this for homework.

  • best part about youtube is alternative news. waking up to the new world order and just how screwed we are.

  • LOL! 01:10

    Over nine thousand!!!!!!!!!!! :L

  • This is such an incredible presentation that it makes me want to pack up and do a degree by Prof Michael Welsch.

  • Well I was about 3 minutes into this when I looked at video's total length and thought "eff that, I'm only going to watch like 7 minutes of this." I didn't even think YouTube supported 55 minute uploads or that I would go against my better judgement and watch this entire presentation. But this was great!

If my roommate wasn't asleep on the other side of the room I would take your challenge and try my own video blog. Maybe I still will tomorrow.

  • /watch?v=0a51KqrjkuM

  • do a barrel roll

    ITS OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Wow.. FML. My old video is at 14:10.. .__. Damn.. back in the freakin' DAY! AHAHHAHAHAH.

  • 49:21 - gets me every time

  • Great video

  • This video was absolutely beautiful. It gives people a lot to chew on as far as society today and exactly how much media and the internet are connecting us even though we're isolated within our own little home, car, or where ever someone is taping.

  • I just did a search for Numa Numa on youtube and only got 30,500 results.

  • i got this by typing the lion the witch and the speccy kid who shit himself??

  • longest video i've ever seen but totally worth it..

  • This video reminded me why Im going into Anthropology. Amazing, thank you for doing this!!!

  • Great video! I never comment on anything here... but I had to say this. Really, inspiring.

  • This has inspired me so much. I want to be an anthropologist

  • This is the time to rethink my life.

  • Great Video, I am actually assigned to watch this as part of a Anthropology Class I am taking.

  • congrats on the presentation, make me think about live !

  • Really a great introduction to youtube

  • Watched part of this in our anthropology lecture. Loved every second. And watched it again when I got home! It forever changed the way I look at youtube etc. Thank you x

  • @mwesch please do research on 4chan!! as in legitimate, anthropological research on the language, community, and effects (and other shit) of /b/. srsly. it would be awesome. well hopefully awesome without anon trolling you or something... also just did a paper on your vids, really cool stuff. must be fun to be an RA in your lab :)

  • Haters,,,gotta hate 'em

  • fuck you boring bitch!

  • the song is from romania, the artists' parents are moldovians... why does everyone hate romania?

  • @MikeMaurizioGyorgyi i dont. romanians have a pretty flag.

  • Free Hugs, anyone? =D

  • The medium promotes, to adapt McLuhan from one of his cameos here, re-cognition -- of others and ourselves -- and thereby also, potentially, a type of empathy we couldn't have without it.

  • I can't comment for some reason. This is a test

  • The Stupid Simple Way To Instantly Reach Your Customers!easiest text marketing program yeptext.com thee only 30% off ad. redeem code (winnin) take advantage and pass it on

  • You can use youtube to find the true beliefs of the people, not the politically correct things people say to you. You find true attitudes and ideologies because people have their internet masks on. I cross reference the youtube videos with contradictory ones to then use critical thinking to determine certain truths that would otherwise be impossible without google and youtube.

  • Got the feeling that this is describing what TV will be like in a few more years ....

    - More interaction - More diversity - More free hugs !

    More user generated content ....

( maybe even the next NumaNuma ? )

    .

Less reruns, spam ( advertising ) & network "executive" generated trash.

    .

  • this video was my inspiration to join the amazing community of youtube :) I used to just be a watcher, now it's my turn to be watched as well. Thanks so much for this awesome vid :D

  • This video was on my relates from my vlog, which I just started vlogging and it was on my 2nd video. I had this feeling that I needed to click on this vid, and now I realize how perfect this video is for me at this point in time. I don't mean to spam, but please click on my channel and check out my vlog, I'm only starting and I'm really hoping this is going to go somewhere. Thank you.

  • damn hes ugly.

  • @iUseDMR Oh my god! That's what I was thinking, but I didn't want to say anything because I didn't want to be condemned, but I smiled when I saw that you were brave enough to type this comment!

  • Truly inspiring! A winner...!

  • There is a lot to think about here and it is amazing how culture, communities, and individuals have been shaped by youtube and other sources of media.

My anthropology class at UC Santa Cruz has over 300 students (many of who are not going to watch this youtube video because it was not required by the wonderful professor) anyway more than 25 student will probably watch this video, which will boost the number of views. So, why should people base the popularity of a video on the number of views?

  • Hi!

I cant tell you how excited I am for this field of knowledge!!

    Thanks a lot :)

  • FAIL

  • A brilliant video and so much to think abotu and meditate on. god forbid he ever finds 4chan.

  • beautiful video

  • OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Pokemeister1202 Well-researched

In the Arab world, people feel the shame that people such as Westerners and Europeans

Do not feel they are free

You will notice that they hide their faces

Of course differ from state to state

The Arabs who live outside the Arab countries, they are more freedom, and sometimes find them afraid

In the Arabian Gulf: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, kuwait, Bahrain, Yemen, United Arab Emirates, Oman

  • @Pokemeister1202 : Hide their faces, especially those who play music

You will find more videos of them, male more than females

Because the women's is shame, it's customs, traditions, and Religion

by the way I am number 1,666,999. good Luck

  • This video changed my life....thanks so much for your hard work...it helped me understand so much...peace.

  • i want to know your theory about love

  • Wow, that was something! It really deepened my understanding of the society, the ongoing processes in it, and the importance of Internet around the globe. Thank you!

And also, thank you YouTube for making all this possible!

  • I actually watched the whole thing just for fun....awesome...it helped me to make sense of things...thanks for putting this together...as a person with a disability, Youtube and the internet have have changed my life.

  • how is it 55min the max is 15min????????????

  • @zzgoofygooberzz

Once you have uploaded over 10 (or 12 from memory) you can uploade longer videos.

  • was linked here from my cultural anthro professor, beautiful, or at least provocative. i didn't think i'd sit through the whole 55 minutes, but i really couldn't believe it when the video ended and it had already been an hour. great work

  • Got showed this in my Year 11 Media class, absolutely brilliant.

Can't praise you guys enough, just awesome

  • This was an amazing study. Loved it!

  • 55 mins OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • All of this is made to distract you. We have more information, and less knowledge. The internet is not real connection. Our connection, the true WE, is not in the physical realms. This is no substitute, nor shall it ever be.

  • @NapoleonicDisorder Me too!

  • This actually really awesome and opens people's eyes to youtube and the internet. Very well done. Great inspirational video.

  • what's this thing called youtube?

  • @FootLoose4ver i believe it is a series of tubes
