There are plenty of female-led and female member bands now - Sleeter Kinney, Arcade Fire, Goldfrapp, Hole, Evanescence - I don't think it is revolutionary anymore, just folks playing music. This is all thanks to Heart and others who broke into an industry that perceived girls are just back-up singers.
yeah, take Fleetwood Mac for example. There was always issues going on in that group. Heart broke into the industry at a time when girls in bands, not necessarily girl singers, were not a huge thing, and male groups were the thing, i.e Doobie Brothers, The Eagles. Also, the business side of the music industry is still predominantly male. Just means women haven't stepped up to the plate and pushed for a bigger role in that aspect.
