  • erm..how to uninstall this mouse theme ?

  • @SATANICDEATHMALIGANT sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme

then select DMZ cursor. Remove kde-oxygen-cursor using Synaptic package manager

  • @quidsup done...thanx :)

  • @quidsup what's your deskop picture's name? i really liked it.

  • @halitton It appears to be called Fantasy Girls (3). I got it from webhopping(dot)co(dot)uk/wallpaper/Fantasy Girls/Fantasy Girls (3).jpg

  • @quidsup thanks. i got it from there, too. and there is one another thing that i wanna ask you. i returned to classic ubuntu(gnome 2) in 11.04. and i wanna ask you a question. i want to make gnome-panel be like mac os x. Do you know how can do it?

  • @halitton Sorry I don't really know how to do that

  • Do you find that Kdenlive is a little buggy under Ubuntu even though in compiz the KDE compatibility is checked?

  • @resplendence2012 little buggy, lol thats an understatement. I have tried stable and latest versions with KDE compatibility ticked. The picture lag was unworkable and it wouldn't play friendly with Unity bar.

I think thats it for me, Im going back to Ubuntu 10.10.

  • I removed Ubuntu 11.04 in order to look at Kubuntu; why is it that the fonts are absolutely crap?! At least the fonts in Ubuntu (natty) are legible, clear and print properly. KDE is terrible on the font side of things; I opened a blank doc in LibreOffice and used 12 different fonts, ALL were crap!! I used different ways in order to try and clean them up but to no avail. I would go back to Kubuntu IF they can sort the shite fonts out ;) Excellent workaround on the pointer, works a charm!

  • @resplendence2012 font setting by default have *FULL* font smoothing. Change it to *SLIGHT* in system settings. Also change all font size to be either 10 or 11 for better readability.

  • @ubuntuvibes1 - I still find it's rendering of fonts poor, very poor indeed. Why is it that Ubuntu's fonts are spot on and Kubuntu is, well, borked?

  • @ubuntuvibes1 - *Just to add; I have tried every single thing I could find in order to clean the fonts up but still get nowhere near to Ubuntu's. Fonts imo should be clean, smooth with no rough edges, is it really that hard to code in cleaner looking fonts? My eyes aren't the best but I can tell the difference between clean fonts and bad fonts, maybe they will address this issue soon, so many have complained and gone back to Ubuntu its crazy!

  • @TorisTechShow I use Ubuntu as my main OS. Sometimes have another distro on my second harddrive for testing & review. My preference is kdenlive, I find it easier to work with.

  • Can i change size of shadow? Its to big. I tried in compiz but without effect..

  • Also entering "compiz --replace" in terminal after selecting the cursor will change it without logging out or a reboot.

  • @Cambaudio Thanks I didn't know about that trick. Cheers

  • Thanks a lot Quids. I really appreciate the random tips, and hope they keep coming. Thanks!

  • Diggin the random tips

  • Nice vid, just wondering how did you change the window shadow? Yours is a purple-ish color?

  • @MrRobertBaker1 Its Compiz effect > Window decoration. I changed the Shadow colour to that purplish one

  • @quidsup awesome thanks. never noticed it. so it looks like you upgraded your main os to 11.04?

  • @MrRobertBaker1 yes I went for it and now using 11.04 as main os. Not sure it was the right move since I've had quite a few bugs to deal with

  • Comment removed

  • @quidsup If you don't mind my asking, what kind of bugs are you dealing with? Are they due to your particular usage habits, or something you think every user would encounter? And more importantly, are they "Show stoppers"? I'm thinking of switching from Windows to Linux (Ubuntu 11.04) and just want to be certain I'm not getting in over my head. Thanks!

  • @stpieraf Is it your first time with Ubuntu? I would recommend going with 10.10, or waiting a few weeks before going with 11.04. The worst problems I've had were on video editing, and I ended up having to downgrade kdenlive (video editor that I use). Other than that its been annoyances with the Compiz effects

  • @quidsup Yes, it is. A while back, I tried to get on with 10.10, but my wireless network adapter was DWA-140 - Probably the most problematic in the release, and try as I might, I couldn't get it to work. I tried 11.04 from the live CD, and that one actually works.

So thank you for responding, and for the tip. But if it's just Compiz and video editing, I can do without those features for a time, and hopefully they'll be updated in time. Thanks again!

  • @quidsup Also, just found out, what version of kdenlive are you using? Version 0.8 got released this week.

  • @stpieraf I tried 0.8 and development release 0.8.1, both were so laggy it was unworkable
