@spacemarshmallow Compared to the Master System version, the Game Gear version has a lower screen resolution, a larger color palette, a few more sound channels, slightly different physics and level designs.Sonic's sprite is different from the Master System version.

I had this one before the MD version and found it harder as it required more skill rather than speed.

Sonic 2 on the Master System was actually released before the Megadrive version.

I just watched this video and was reading through the comments from like a year ago down the page and i'm shocked at how much people whinge about the way you play through the game. I see nothing wrong with the way you decide to play through this game, it's your playthrough and it's your decision to play it however you want.

Personally speaking I find speed runs boring as everything else in the playthrough is forsaken. (Rings, item boxes, badniks etc).

You missed most of the secret stuff! You have a secret life in every act including the boss acts. Behind the tree in o:55, the wall in 2:01, in the second hole in 5:02. You have a "continue" in every bonus level. And a diamond in every zone.

OMG i LOVE this game. In fact i remember being 6 years old on xmas day getting the master system with this built into it. Not only was this my 1st sonic game ever, this was in fact the very 1st game EVER i had played. What i will say (you might already know this) is on the hill with the 1st invincible box if you roll quick enough you can in fact continue off screen right to the end of the level. FYI

You should remake this. It gets seriously annoying watching you get all those rings. The whole point of this game is to run it as fast possible while collecting as many rings as you can along the way. If you just stop to collect each ring, it defeats the point (that Sonic is fast). Maybe you should just walk through the game by tapping the forward button?

I have this game downloaded on to my Wii from the WII VC and I have this game on GameGear as well i beat this game a couple of times when I was a kid on my Game Gear so this was my intro to Sonic the HedgeHog

I wasn't trying to be rude. I was only pointing out my thoughts. Sonic the Hedgehog 1-2 on the Genesis and Master System are not terribly hard. They are actually easier when you play them slowly. Some levels need to be done slowly near the end, of course, unless you have expert memorization. The basic point here is simple. I'm not suggesting a "speed run," but the point of the game is speed itself. Collecting rings instead of completing stages quickly is contrary to the purpose of playing Sonic.
