So are they going to become as we are here in the US?? I graduated with Bach. and find now that Sallie Mae is on my back like a angry monkey.. so will Europeans now have to go to that same system as we are with student loans and no jobs after grad so they can be sent to collection agency as well?
@bimhimbim Because it is efficient. If you can pay for one year of school for a Chinese student and then integrate them into your work force, that is extremely efficient.
Why do you pay for a five-year old's education simply because one of their parents were Dutch? Because there is a good chance that they will be part of the workforce. Increasingly there is little guarantee that natives will stay, and that natives will be enough of the labour force.
@Robfenix Solidarity within society and within the same people is understood. It was news to me that workforce was scarce, or workforce imports strengthen the competitiveness of domestic workers or increase their wages and employement opportunity. According to the rationale of a market system it is quite the opposite. That is why industry funds this kind of "research" and promotes workforce imports.
Soete's case is not well-made. Having one tuition fee for all presupposes that this tuition fee would have to cover the full cost. But Soete says that it the taxpayer should carry a large part of the burden. Why should a taxpayer cover the costs of foreigners whose countries do not share this tax burden?
