@CosmosPrivateer Why should any thing made by GM have a US flag on it? The government just bails them out so the can give contracts to the lowest bidder.
Wow are we behind in robotics. Just look at the Honda Asimo, Sony QRIO and the Toyota "violin playing" one. Nasa's is lame in comparison. And I will bet Nasa spent more mula developing their "lame duck" than any of the Japanese streamliners...
@coolestdude80 We're not behind. NASA had less than 6 months to build the entire robot and test it and modularize it so that they can constantly make improvements and send small parts for updates. You obviously don't know anything about engineering or robotics if you think this is embarrassing to the US.
@TheSellexProject 6 months?? They had 25 years to design a decent robot. Why dont they just hire Toyota to send one of their violin playing robots up there. It is very ambidextrous.
@coolestdude80 money dont grow on trees and also it do take time to do something like this back then we did not have the right tech and stuff for this that is all i will say
@coolestdude80 Seriously this is embarassing, If we cant do better we need to steal some new technology then contract the Chinese to assemble it for us.
This is the best idea for a robot I've ever seen. Robot's don't need food, water, life support systems! Imagine the money that would save. Imagine the reduction in the sophistication of the mission. The robot could be outfitted with many sensors so that a human on Earth could control it with a suit, a lot like an Avatar.
sure it's slow, and expensive, and can't do a whole lot - right now. But this is such an important step in the direction of robots. It will only get better and better!
thats like the best robot :D people saying it will fail it might but not alot seeming its made from the best robotics etc. and not just a simple Japanese robot
OMG......DEAD SPACE!! but nice. :)

Why doesn't R-2 have the American flag patch????

Maybe R-2 has a made in America tag.

By the time this bot grabs the pipe or a rope the other astronaut will be drifting in space many thousands miles away. Not very effective, is it?

Anyone else think they would be uneasy on the ISS with that up there?

It reminds me of that robot at the 1933 worlds fair.

Spinoff time - a variation of those arms are going to make good bionic arms for injured people.

Its interesting that GM was involved in making this robot. Remember that Honda made the ASIMO robot.

this is a wonderful sign of progression. Kubrick's dream come to life. people who don't support it, aren't very intelligent.

The robot has some important and silly mistakes... it will cost you millions of dollars in space exploration... for not asking me...
