Awesome, insightful and super cute! But tell me, how did someone so young get sooo smart? It took me years to sift through all of that. Congratulation on the exemplary parents - seems they taught you well :)
I'm not gay, or bi, but I admire the homosexual community as they have the biggest balls (and ovaries? ;L) ever because they have to admit to their parents, deal with prejudice and bullying and offensive names and still turn the other cheek :) (not Christian either :P) I'm just saying, I think homosexuals deserve more credit for their courage and their badass attitude towards homophobes :L
Phew, I'm so glad coming out on YouTube didn't ruin your life! I was worried for you being so young and open to gay bashers and sexual predators!! I believe you are helping so many kids in search or guidance and courage. Keep up the amazing work!! I bet your parents are so proud of you. You are wise beyond your years :)
"We aren't living in the 1980's anymore" Boy...how very VERY true! :) Rejoice! teens of the new millennium! :) The 80's & 90's were a total bitch for people that grew up during that time....and unfortunately, for those that made it through it all, it continues to impact some ppl to this day....myself included. Its not meant to be perverted or sexual at all....but some of the ppl I admire the most are 2days teens/young adults. U R changing the world 4 the better. Keep up the gr8 work!
Amen to this my friend! Other than perhaps the Music and "Art Scene", I do not miss the Era much! And as Bobby Griffiths' (Prayers for Bobby) "Once Upon a Time" lover, I too have been trying to draw distinctions between those times and today! And you're "Spot On", this generation is amazing! They're poised to push the envelope as it were, and change the "Paradigm" on everything! Bravo my friend!
....and much like Jake, coming from a small conservative town increases the complications tenfold! Even today I'd have to say it still seems much more difficult in smaller or more conservative areas. Those same areas in the 80s/90s? Just awful! Ironic you mention "Prayers For Bobby". I recently re-watched that from Netflix.
I live not 12 miles from Walnut Creek, where Bobby Griffith and I grew up! And even as a suburb of "The Emerald City"(San Francisco) during the 1980's and 1990's it could have been "Any Town USA" for it's conservative leanings! That's why it's so amazing to walk through "Broadway Plaza" these days, it's main shopping district! One might see any number of gay couples pushing their darling new "Gaybies" in a stroller, like any family! Things have definitely changed!
A big shout out to your parents and how beyond helpful they were to you. My parents are similar in that they gave me the physical resources I needed to see guys that I were dating who may have been far away. Definitely helped me through my growing process.
So good to see you again Jake, hope you will post more...you are really one of the best. I will feature this on my channel soon, ( you are pretty popular already -- I won't drive a lot of traffic for you) I like the video and think it is a good message for other kids...oh gosh when did you get to be 17?? It seems like you were 15 yesterday...thanks again! -phil
I just came out 3 months ago and lets just say my parents don't talk to me any more but it's good to know some of us can still have it good that makes me happy ;) thanks for making another video it was cute. You are really looking grown up and ur really mature for ur age with all my love thanks -3-3-3
Grazie Jake, for this great share and contribution to the "It Gets Better" Campaign! You are indeed one "Bel Ragazzo Benedetto e Molto Fortunato", and in "Italiano" that makes you one "Beautiful, Blessed and Very Lucky Boy"! A great member of my vast, extended queer (LGBTQ) "Famiglia"! And I, Bobby Griffiths' (Prayers for Bobby) old lover/boyfriend "Blaine" here am so "freakin" proud of you for this! You Rock "Ragazzo Dolce" , and that's "Sweet Boy"!
I feel so much more confident since I have come out a few weeks ago. I have told 15 friends and my mom and brother but idk if I will tell my whole school.
